Advantages Advantages Lots of fun, reasonably cheap, versatile, lots of accessories available

Disadvantages Disadvantages Does dry out, can be messy

When my boys got to around 14 months old I found myself encouraging their creative side and a lot of play time activities encouraged “messy play”. I must admit having two young toddlers makes it difficult when you are on your own to enjoy messy creative play as you spend a lot of your time trying to control what is going on and minimise mess. I also found that many of the creative type toys and accessories stated “from 2 or 3 years old” therefore I was very conscious that when I was on my own I need to fully supervise my boys, often made difficult when they wanted to wander off in different ... more

My niece and I love to create things when she stays with us. Everything from painting to making castles out of loo rolls. I remember doing it all as a child and I secretly love bringing back all those great memories and being a child again. ** Play-Doh Tubs ** Play-Doh is pliable coloured dough that can be moulded, cut, squashed and shaped into a million different things. The dough comes in little plastic tubs with lids (the lids correspond to the colour of the dough), and as long as the lids are put back on the product can last for months. The pack of play-doh I bought comes in a pack of 4 ... more

Advantages Advantages Fun, good quality, promotes creativity

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Price, goes dry

About: I loved Play-Doh the first time I tried it as a child, and would play with it for hours on weekends. I generally just owned tubs of play-doh and one little set of a hairdressing one which is not listed on here. I never had all of the colours but I did have the basic colours and enough to make a wide range of things for whatever my mind conjured up. It would entertain me for at least an hour a time. Play-Doh: It has been around for many years but is still used today, it is a classic toy. Moulding a blob of dough into whatever you want it to be can be fun for a kid as there is not much ... more

OverviewPlay-Doh has been considered a toy since the mid 1950's and was a firm favourite of mine as I grew up in the 1980's and remains to be a firm favourite of children in the modern day. I actually purchased this not as a toy, but as a tool to help my students understand how scientific processes work by moulding different shapes and showing them how things work. What is it?Play-doh is a special sort of modelling clay. It isn't hard like Plasticine, it is much more malleable moulds into shape much more easily than a hard clay like potters clay. It is indeed very much like a bread dough which ... more
