    Advantages Advantages Support, Services

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Usage Limits, Price

Plus.NET aren't all-bad, but they do have one key problem - PRICE vs USAGE. Paying roughly £25-£30 per month for a 24/7 unmetered package is quite a lot for a typical net user and so you expect quality. However PlusNET's recent usage outline suggests that surfing more than 3 or 4 hours is next to 'abuse'. The strange thing is most consider 4 - 5 hours to be the average surfing time for an unmetered ISP. While many unmetered ISPs themselves consider 5-7hours to be the upper limit. Some, such as ClaraNET, CloudNine and surfUnlimited don't even have an upper limit. The crazy thing is that for a ... more

    Advantages Advantages Hosting

Disadvantages Disadvantages Service poor, Customer Service unreliable, constantly changing terms and conditions, sign-up promotional material does not reflect ongoing problems

Having had a free-online account with Force 9 for a couple of years, I decided to move to their owner's (Plus Net) Surftime product in September last year. I found the access impeccable and the hosting services good value for money. Until the beginning of February.... Plus Net decided that, having been forced to adhere to their Surfport contract by BT, they were going to blame the new lack of service on their customers and kick off 1100 of them. Others were required to upgrade their accounts to 'business' service as their 'online usage pattern' indicated they surfed during weekdays. Plus Net ... more

Advantages Advantages Great service. Great support.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slightly more expensive than the competition.

OK, so I'm watching TV a few months ago and I see an advert for Tiscali. Yes, Tiscali, bear with me. Anyway, Tiscali were offering broadband for around 15 quid per month. I was already paying about that for Freeserve's crummy Anytime dialup service. I'd be a fool not to sign up, right? Anyway, I looked up Tiscali on various websites and found a lot of complaints about their service, so I looked for alternatives. Most other ISPs didn't offer anything between dialup and 30quid a month full-speed broadband, but eventually I came across lots of good feedback about Plus net, who were offering a ... more

Advantages Advantages Unmetered internet access for a fixed monthly fee

Disadvantages Disadvantages Could it be cheaper?

As a moderately high user of the internet I have been getting some awful phone bills recently. This prompted me to investigate how I could save money. I tried lineone but that turned into farce. I had registered with BT for surftime but hadn't heard anything. I phoned BT to be told that surftime was available in my area. So I joined up! Next I needed a new ISP - so looking at the list on the BT site I found plusnet (formally f9). And I've been very happy since. 100% connection rate, very good speeds. An account with plusnet get you loads of other stuff -webspace, cgi scripts, all sorts. I ... more

    Advantages Advantages None

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor service, poor advice, poor ISP, poor everything

Initially I signed up to PlusNet as I wanted fatster broadband at a reasonable price and ADSL guide rated it a good ISP. When I phoned up to enquire about the service I was told the following things: -Cancellation charge is £47 and goes down by 20% of that value every year meaning it is free to cancel in 5 years. -ADSL modem is free if signing up for 12 month deal and stay connected. So I signed up and started using. It was okay at first although couldn't notice much of a speed difference between my previous 512kb connection and the new 2Mb connection. Every now and then the service would not ... more

Advantages Advantages Reliable, quick and reasonable broadband access

Disadvantages Disadvantages Haven't come across any yet

We use Plus.Net in our student house. There are 5 of us at the moment (6 from next term) and we signed up with their wire free package with a cap initially as we all settled in. One we'd bedded in we decided that we would need more usage so we are now paying £30 for a 1mb connection with unlimited bandwidth. Unfortunately we've only just started to experience the joy of such fantastic speeds (and fantastic is what they are) because our landlord let us down with the hardwired access points in our rooms which have only become available in the last two weeks. Up to that point we'd been using the ... more

Advantages Advantages Speed, connection quality, customer support

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't think of any!

I've used many ISP's in the past but found PlusNET earlier this year and to be honest they knock the socks of the lot of them. Some earlier reviews on CIAO have not been particularly nice about PlusNET, mainly because they went through a period of being extremely unhelpful in terms of Customer Support, and the Management Team seemd to be in it simply for the money (I know that's what everyone is really in it for, but you won't get rich if you p!ss off every customer). The seem to be well past their problems now - their customer support is top notch (they use a Ticket based system, they quite ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some dropped lines and having to log on to the home page.

I've found myself on PlusNet after been around the block with several ISPs. I wanted one that would offer fixed rate access and PlusNet do this with Surftime. I opted for the package that gives feee calls in the evening and weekends, for this I pay BT £5.99 per month and PlusNet £5.99 per month. They offer a wide range of services in addition to your connection. After they have taken your first payment, mine was for 3 months, you can apply for a free domain name which then points to your free webspace on PlusNet's servers. They will also allow you to host an online shop. They offer a static IP ... more

Advantages Advantages Good communication at all times

Disadvantages Disadvantages Was a bit slow in getting to the problem but not really their fault

I have to say that I have read many bad reviews about Plusnet on this site. When first going with Plusnet I started to have the feeling they were right as my system never worked from day one. However the guys at Plusnet pulled out as many stops as they could - down to sending more equipment to ensure all was working and finally when nothing worked getting hold of BT by the scruff of the neck to sort out the line which seemed to be the problem. It took time - but not their fault as BT had no interest. Finally after the 3rd BT tech came who seemed to know what he was doing an outside cabling ... more

I've read other reviews of the Plus Net ISP, and i think that they aren't reflecting the good nature and service of the ISP. I joined Plus Net March 2003. I signed up and recieved my account details and unlimited e-mail addresses within the same day of ordering. Within 5 working days i had recieved my PCI modem and line splitters, had my line checked and was accessing the internet. The package i selected was the "£21.99 Home", which was perfect for what i required: An always on connection with access to Peer-to-Peer. The download speeds i can get from reliable servers range from 55KBps to ... more
