The University of Plymouth is the largest university in the South West with over 30,000 students currently enrolled and based on student population, is the UK's 4th biggest university behind London and Manchester's universities. There are nearly 3,000 staff employed at the university and its annual income is in the range of 110 million pounds. It has developed enormously within the past 15 years thanks to great enthusiasm behind the scenes. ... ...I haven't looked back once! Plymouth University is quite renowned for civil engineering, especially civil and coastal engineering due to its location. As you can imagine, the nightlife in a university town is brilliant! Every pub/club/bar in the area wants to take advantage of us students and we let them! Each venue has its special nights where they offer their best deals for example, Cuba has pound a pint on Mondays, the roundabout pound a pint ...

Advantages: Close to the sea, not too expensive Disadvantages: Campus could be better
...on the main campus in Plymouth City Centre. Since arriving in Plymouth 18 months ago, I have had the time of my life.
I think that the university itself is working very hard to shrug off its 'old poly' image and develop into a uni of the 21st century. The facilities aren't bad; the campus itself is fairly compact but expanding rapidly. On the main campus you will find most of what you need; Student's Union (bar, shop, beer 'garden', canteen e.t.c.), ... ...academic life? The nightlife in Plymouth isn't bad. There are a variety of clubs and bars to suit the tastes of most, in fact you should be able to find at least one 'student night' in town for each day of the week. For those looking for some lighter entertainment, we have a fairly new complex located close to the seafront encompassing a 15 screen Warner Village cinema, Megabowl, McDonalds, a nightclub, bar and more.
There are plenty of opportunities ...

...with studying a degree in Plymouth is not down to the layout, lecturers or library but down to the excellent nightlife and cheap alcaholic beverages that entice you to party every night of the week (probably why I'm repeating my first year!).

Advantages: Great atmosphere, lovely city, friendly supportive staff and students! Disadvantages: None.
Plymouth is a great city making it a good choice for a University. If you are thinking you need to get away from the busy life of the bigger cities Plymouth might be the place for you! But don't think that means Plymouth doesn't have the shops, nighlife and great surroundings you expect from your time in Uni... it does!

Advantages: Everything that you need is close by. Disadvantages: Plymouth is a 2 hour drive away from Bristol!
Plymouth University is (obviously) situated in the city of Plymouth, which is right down in the depths of south-west England. It is a good place to come to if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the more larger cities, but not if you want to be close enough to go home. So what courses are on offer? Everything from surfing (yes, they do a degree in surfing!) to nursing; and from maths to architecture. How do I apply? Through the usual ... ...The University of Plymouth provides a wide number of halls for students to rent out, that are lia dout in numerous bloks that involve single bedrooms with either en-suite or shared bathroom/ shower/ toilet facilities. However, all of these generally host communal sitting and eating/ dining areas so watch out that your food just doesn't go missing! However, there is also many places around the city that are private housing that can hold numerous students. ...

Advantages: Excellent teaching Disadvantages: Distance from main campus (good and bad)
Plymouth has been proven as the best place to study Civil Engineering in the whole of the UK. Along with the high teaching standards, the Technology / Engineering department is situated slightly away from the main campus, which gives a more kind of friendly feel to it. It's probably less than 1 minutes walking from the sea, which is always nice on a warm sunny day. It is however, still only a very short walk into the city centre, where you can find ... ...are all the necessary facilities, such as computers (not too many, but with the lower student numbers, there are nearly always some available). The lecturers are all very nice genuine people (most of which continue their work as Engineers etc. in their free time). Advantages: Friendly atmosphere and lovely places to drink Disadvantages: Varying funding of departments
I went to Plymouth University primarily because it was a long way from London.
It turned out to be a fantastic choice. Plymouth is a beautiful city, with an almost beach, fantastic pubs/cafes and bars, and easy access to Dartmoor and the delights of Cormwall.
Plymouth is particularly well set up for students with cheap booze offers all over town and many special student nights in local clubs.
Courses, vary in quality. I was a part of the Sociology ... ...as a whole though.
The main advantage to Plymouth University was its friendliness, although caution is advised it is still possible to meet lectures and students alike in local pubs of an afternoon on drinking shesh's.
In summary Plymouth Uni is an ace way to spend a good few years. ...

The University of Plymouth is well-kept and professional university. Set in the city of Plymouth, everywhere you go you are surrounded by stunning scenery. I am also at Plymouth University, but am based on the Exmouth campus, which is approximately 40 miles away from the main site. At Rolle College, we have little or no contact with the main site, and as the student population here is very small, it sometimes feels like you're still at college, with no real sense of University life. Although Rolle College is primarily a teaching college, students of the arts, such as English, Media, Fine Art, or Performing ... ...towns can offer students a portion of the student life, but the atmosphere at Rolle college is not conducive to study, and theteaching support is sadly lacking. If you find yourself faced with a problem of any kind, it is invariably likely for you to come across tutors who would rather leave their contact with the students to their few teaching hours. With the exception of a small minority, I have found the teachers at Rolle unhelpful and/or uninterested. ...

...However Plymouth is a safe and friendly city, the campus is located in the city centre and the student area (student housing etc) is also in the same vicinity.
