THE INTERVIEW I was seeking employment that would showcase my skills Something different and fun that would help pay the bills So I joined up with an agency to find work I desired And booked an interview in the hopes I’d get hired. That’s how I came to be stood at the door Of Transylvania Avenue number 104. I can laugh now at my naivety as I stood at that portal But how could I know that I’d soon be immortal? I hauled on the handle of the rusty old bell And from the depths of the house I heard its deep knell Echoing eerily round and about And I think that’s when the first seed of doubt Crept ... more

Having thoroughly enjoyed the lovely Philippa`s (LOBSTERQUADRILLE) efforts at the ancient art of Haiku composition I thought I’d throw my hat into the ring and try it out. Here for you delectation and amusement then is my A to Z of Haiku - Apologies in advance if the results are not very good. ■□■□■□;■□■□■□9632;□■□■□σ2;□■□■□■& #9633;■□■□■`33;■□■□■□ ... more

The forthcoming World Cup tournament reminds me of a stimulating challenge issued two years ago by Kirsty1, who has since ceased to take much part in Ciao except for co-hosting Kentish meets, and whose writing is much missed. For the full SP on what she asked people to do, take a look at her review: http://www.ciao.co.uk/EverythingthatstartswithSReview5412199. The essence of the challenge was for people to "rip-off" a famous poem by re-writing it to their own taste. She suggested a list of well-known poems as possible candidates for this treatment, and being unimaginative, I took her at her ... more

A CHRISTMAS FAIRY STORY Santa sent the fairies out delivering Christmas trees And though I was the littlest I always aimed to please A hundred trees wrapped in a sack was strapped to every fairy's back " Now hurry up , be quick , be gone … you must deliver every one " So off I went with this huge weight to slow me down and make me late A hundred heavy Christmas trees that almost brought me to my knees But this poor fairy couldn't cope , couldn't do it , not a hope I struggled on till almost light and thought I'd done my job that night But , at the bottom of my sack , dropping needles , turning ... more

Here is my first, and probably last, attempt at poetry. I hope I don’t die of embarrassment reading this again later. I’ve got this feeling I might! I’ve dressed up the Christmas tree: I’d love some twinkling company. I’ve cooked some cakes and some pies: An Elffriend may knock as she passes by. Maybe I’ll be Lucky and Mother Joan Will come to visit my decorated home. Come and meet some friends of mine, I’d like a Carol and some Sunshine. Christina believes in fantasy: She could be my fairy on the tree. I know a Silver and a Didi Dave, But do they know how they should behave? Scarlet Ribbons ... more

Just a daft little rhyme...by the way the Kids aren't mine. Now come on kids, don't mess about, You're doing it again, You're making me shout. Robert, have you got your football kit, and leave the cat be, You'll cause it to fit. Alice, stop picking your nose, and for goodness sakes girl, put on some clothes. George, don't dip your toast in the goldfish bowl now look what you've done, to the poor little soul, Just look at the time, it's half past eight, come on be quick, or we'll all be late. Alice pick up your lunch box, there's a Dear, what do you mean, he's got more and you don't think it's ... more

[I originally posted this hip-op hop on epinions, but subsequently adapted it for posting on Ciao.] The Bottom Line: Ever wonder how big-pimpin' battle-emcee, mackalicious shorty-magnet and all-around playa, MCSCADS singlehandedly took over Ciao, became its supreme ruler and forcibly took ownership of its op-posting community? Read on, mah ho's and homies... . INTRO: When Lanny (a.k.a., "rated-r") said I was a wuss for attempting to wriggle out of my promise to participate in his Rap-Off (a.k.a., "I'm Going To Write These Lyrics Because I Think I'm Better Than You - Write-off!"), I'm pretty ... more

I haven't actually edited this review I've just changed the name at the bottom - just letting you know to save you time if you're coming back to re-read and expecting a re-write! This is on the back of Lil Miss Pink's naughy one for the ladies. This is for any ladies out there of similarly generous proportions to me! I am lardy, no question, but am also quite fit these days which, I'm hoping, will save me from an early coronary. I have a resting pulse of 56. I have no idea what that means but apparently it's good in practical terms it does mean I can now run for a bus without going blue... I ... more

Sometime ago, I rather foolishly took on an unnamed member on a points getting challenge. It is fair to say that I was beaten like a rented mule, and my forfeit / challenge was to write and publish a review all about the victorious Ciao member. So with head bowed and tail between legs, I am a man true to my word and here is my Ode to The Victorious Member. As to whom is it?…. COMPOSING A TRADITIONAL JAPANESE HAIKU POEM The 300-year old Haiku Poem has its own distinct discipline: - Each complete poem has only three lines, totalling 17 syllables. - The first line must be five syllables - The second line must be seven syllables - The third line must be five syllables When these rigid conditions are met, the result can be a very satisfying word picture. Note that the subject or content of a Haiku poem does not matter, as long as the basic 5-7-5 rule applies. Try it yourself and see just how talented you are!
