Advantages: Fast and eye-catching Disadvantages: Restricted visibility - fuel guzzler
PORSCHE 924
“Go on Dad, spoil yourself.” This was one of my daughters on the occasion of my approaching 65th birthday. I must admit that this beautiful car was one of the possessions I had always aspired to but had never somehow got around to it. My finances would not stretch to a new one and I had spotted a gleaming white model on sale for £9995 (this was way back in 1990). So, my arm was twisted, not requiring much effort, and the ... ...was in excellent condition. As Porsche owners will know, the eye-catching characteristics are well known and I had to put up with several good - natured comments such as “You’re getting on a bit to be driving around in a flash car like that” and “You should be able to pull the birds with that”. Well, admittedly, it’s that sort of car and did attract admiring glances but it also attracted vandals, who tend to pick ...

...cheapest way to become a Porsche owner. These cars are described as the best designed Porsches as they have perfect 50/50 weight distribution due to the engine, gearbox and diff layout. They are powered by a 2 litre engine which is based on an Audi 100 powerhouse and drives the rear wheels.
There are many myths surrounding these cars - such as they arent real porkers and they are glorified Volkswagens - Not true. VW & Audi approached Porsche to ... ...the manufacturing rights back to Porsche who developed it into the 924. The car has many VW/Audi bits on it but this is no bad thing - an example being that porsche electric window switch is around £90 and a VW part is around £15. These costs make quite a bit of difference when fixing/ restoring the car. The cars are (usually) made from galvanised sheet steel and therefore do not rust. They are exceptionally well built with all parts mating as they ...

We've had our 924 for a little over a year now, so this seems a good time for an updated opinion (see my other opinion for more details about the car)...
Well, we've put a fair few miles of road under the tyres and basically the car is still running like a star... As you might expect there's been a few minor repairs needed, mostly wear & tear parts with the exception of the starter motor. The starter had to be reconditioned, which wasn't bad at ... ...hour, mainly due to me working in the evenings with only a small torch to illuminate the underside of the car! I'm struggling to fault the car, she's rapidly approaching 25yrs old and still looks in better condition than most 5yr old cars. On the reliability front there are times when the car will decide it doesn't want to start, usually after being sat in traffic and getting hot under the collar, but given half an hour to cool down she then starts ...

I purchased my Porsche 924 about 18 months ago and it has got to be the best car I have ever owned. If anyone has ever fancied owning a Porsche but has been put off by the costs involved, then the 924 is ideal for you. Running costs have been no higher than my old Vauxhall Cavalier and classic car insurance means lower premiums than you would expect. It may not be the fastest car in the world, but who cares? Owning an old sports car is all about ... ...sick at the thought of driving about in a boring family saloon then check out the Auto Trader or the classified section in the Porsche club magazine. Pick up a mid eighties model for around three grand (we're talking Ford Fiesta money!!) and I promise you will not be dissapointed!! ...

Advantages: Retro, RWD, Cheap simple fun for very little money Disadvantages: not a 911, no practical rear seating, rare to find good interior
...be my first car, the porsche 924 would always catch my eye. In the end i was given a first car so i didnt need to purchase one. The dream of owning a porsche would have to remain in my head untilthe summer of 2005 when i purchased a 924 from my local car auctions by chance.
Unfortunately the rings had gone on the engine of this porsche but as i already knew the market for spares for the 924 was very reachable and i knew a local garage owner who ... ...miles a week in the porsche with out it missing a beat. I have complete confidence that it will get me to my destination with cannot be said for other classics and i believe it could easily do much more work if required.
The 2ltr injected engine provides plenty of power, whilst the trans-axle transmission means that the car has great weight distribution so whether on the motorway, county roads or the city the 924 is always willing. My 924 is a 1982 ...
