Advantages Advantages great bargains, great range of products

Disadvantages Disadvantages shop can get very busy, some products poor quality

Poundland Stores = = = = = = = = = = I have visited a few of the poundland stores in different town and have always been impressed at the large range of items available to buy from there. Unfortunately I don't get to visit one very much and when I do visit them I am rushed around either by my parents or my sister, so I never really get time to have a good look. I was so happy and a little excited when they recently opened a Poundland Store in my local town ad I couldn't wait to spend some proper time in here browsing the store and looking at their range of products. Poundland sell a huge range ... more

Advantages Advantages dont need a degree to work your change out, always grab a bargain, good selection

Disadvantages Disadvantages cramped inside, staff need to smile a bit.

There has been a Pound Land in Uxbridge for about 8 years and I have never been in there yet to find an empty store and un-crowded aisle. So what makes this store so addictive and compulsive? Apart from everything being a quid please read on and I'll give you a virtual tour of my "Green Shop". The outside: Nothing on the scale of Debenhams shop window, not even a quarter of the size. There are no shop dummies in the front , well that's questionable actually judging by the staff in this store. All you can see from the glass front is boxes and more boxes and the back heads of the check out staff ... more

Advantages Advantages everything a pound, can get a bargain

Disadvantages Disadvantages some stuff poor quality, bad shop lay out

When Poundland first opened up in my home town of Kettering a few years ago now I groaned with the thought of another pound shop. We already had several others at the time all of which have shut down now and I saw no reason why this one would be any different. I didn't know that they were a well known chain and had stores nationwide. So what does it sell!?! Basically Poundland sells everything and anything from household cleaning products to food to toys and gifts and it all costs just a pound. When they have a sale the sale stuff is just 50p! You can pick up a real bargain in here for ... more

Advantages Advantages cheap, simple consistent concept

Disadvantages Disadvantages quality?, limited range, maybe not nearby, not always bargains

Where can you get a pocket FM radio, with inbuilt mini torch, headphones and batteries for £1? A battery operated train set for a £1? Seems impossible but you can at Poundland. Until recently we didn't have any Poundland stores north of the border, although stores with a similar concept do exist, many of which are independent, and there are many discounters such as Your More Store and the late What Everyone Wants (WEW) Although I live in Scotland, I travel a lot around the UK and being familar with the Poundland concept, emailed them about six months ago to ask when they were heading my way ... more

    Advantages Advantages EVERYTHING!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages a few - but see op to see my defence!

Well.....what can i say? As a worker at my local Poundland store, i can honestly say I LOVE IT! *THE STORE* The Poundland stores are throughout the UK, being the number one retail outlet! Our local poundland in glenrothes, fife scotland opened late April 2005 which is when i started. Been there over a year now and (without including snow days) the shop has yet to have a quiet day. Everything is £1 and customers STILL dont seem to understand the word 'everything'. I have lost count how many people ask me the price of things, now i tend to laugh. *ABOUT ME AND THE STORE* I am only weekend sales ... more

Advantages Advantages You don't HAVE to ask the price, but it's fun anyway

Disadvantages Disadvantages Crowded and check-out are annoyingly slow considering the simple cash transactions.

SNOB ALERT: If you wouldn’t be seen dead walking back to the car with a shopping bag emblazoned with the word ‘Poundland’ on the side, if ‘Harrods Food Hall’ is more your style, read no further. Our local High Street in Hounslow has seen many ‘cheapjack’ shops come and go. For the most part, they have been short lease affairs, with only perfunctory attempts to disguise their former use (possibly just a banner hiding the previous shop’s name). The cover-up never seems to extend to hiding the ‘clean’ bits of floor where permanent fitments once stood. I guess this tends to happen in many places ... more

The first Poundland store opened on 13th December 1990 in the Octagon Centre, Burton-upon-Trent. The whole Poundland idea was started when Steve Smith suggested the idea of a shop where everything on sale cost just £1. Steve Smith had years of retail experience as he had previously worked for his father’s wholesale business. When Steve Smith originally put his idea forward to bank managers, landlords and businessmen alike it was met with amusement. They told him that this was a bad idea, as no one would dare shop in stores like these as they gave the wrong image selling everything for a ... more

Advantages Advantages Lots of cheap bargains

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Can get packed

The ultimate bargain shop for students. I love a good look around in here, and the store is far better than Pound Stretcher and other Pound Shops that I’ve visited to date. Best buys for me include various chocolates, cuddly toys, perfumed oils and a novelty fibre-optic Christmas tree. You can even get things cheaper then a pound when there’s things on offer. I’ll give a brief overview of things available from Poundland: Food ~~~~~ Like I said I buy chocolate from here, and it’s good Cadbury’s stuff. Not the cheap chocolate imported from foreign countries. My ... more

Advantages Advantages One price for everything, occasionally unbelievable bargains to be had

Disadvantages Disadvantages Overcrowed, chavvy, lots of tat, the staff, the earsplitting bleeping sound

Poundland - where I live- that's Brighton, we have a very large branch and it's very close to where I work, I don't shop there unless I absolutely have to, although there are bargains to be had, I often find that the bad shopping experience has left me wishing I had paid a bit more and had spent my lunch break in more civilised surrondings! The ground floor is literally jam packed with toiletries, I didn't even know there were that many brands of shampoo on the market, there's a range of cheap body sprays, and imitation perfumes, who I can't imagine would want to buy...perhaps schoolkids at ... more

Advantages Advantages Constantly changing range of goods, loads of everyday essentials plus unusual gifts and tempting treats

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some ranges are surplus export lines, thus unfamiliar brands. Too many good things to ignore.

I remember when I first ventured into Poundland, I thought it had to be just an overblown market stall, or maybe similar to the seafront souvenir and flipflop shops that I see sprouting up each year along our seafront. How wrong could I be! For those of you living on grants, a low income or pension, or simply watching the pennies, Poundland is a great place to go browsing. I think I have come out once only without having spent any money! A word of warning – it can get crowed, but then, most stores do at times, but it is open on Sundays, which often helps in this respect. But, the aisles ... more
