Isotonic is a type of sports drink which contains a similiar amount of salt and sugar that is present in the human body. Sports drinks are commonly used by athletes by replacing the electrolytes lost during exercise or training and delay tiredness associated with loss of hydration in the body. Examples of Isotic drinks include Lucozade Sport, Gatorade and Powerade. Powerade Powerade is part of the Coca Cola company and produces a range of Isotonic Sports Drinks. Powerade was introduced in 1988 as it became the official drink of the Great Olympics. There is the option of Powerade Zero which ... more

2 Stars Pump Me Up and Keep Me Wet Review with images 23/03/2011
    User doesn't recommend the product

Advantages Advantages Sports cap works, hydrates and is reasonably cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages Makes your bowels feel bizarre and tastes horrible

It is rigorously claimed by the manufacturers that sports drinks hydrate during exercise better than natural water. Powerade is one such drink that is doing its best to maintain a stranglehold on the lucrative UK sports drink market and has just updated its range with a new Ion 4 mineral system. I exercise regularly (3-4 times a week) but my workout is NOT predominantly aerobic. Indeed, I'm trying to put on mass, not burn it off, so I do a bit of cardio to warm up and then hit the weights and resistance machines. That doesn't mean it's not thirsty work though and I've started consuming energy ... more

Advantages Advantages might be good for serious athletes

Disadvantages Disadvantages tastes foul, doesn't help much for short workouts

My new years resolution this year was to get fit so I started to go to the gym three times a week. My initial enthusiasm and good intentions have worn off slightly but I am still managing to work out at least once or twice a week. I like to do cardio work to build up my general fitness levels and lose weight so generally use the treadmill, bikes and cross trainer for the bulk of my session and use the weights machines for 10 to 15 minutes to help tone my muscles. All of this exercise is thirsty work and I have experimented with different sports drinks over the past few weeks instead of just ... more

    User recommends the product

    Advantages Advantages Great sports drink

Disadvantages Disadvantages Don't like the orange flavour as much as the others

My favourite drink to now take to the gym with me (water is so last year!!) is Powerade. This is mainly because it's the only sports drink they sell in my gym but also because I like the flavour. Like I have just mentioned Powerade is marketed as a sports drink. It is manufactured by the Coca Cola company. It is actually classified as an Isotonic sports drink. An isotonic drink is, "a beverage designed to help athletes rehydrate, as well as replenish electrolytes, carbohydrates, and other nutrients, which can be depleted after training or competition." They really do target this drink towards ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice flavours, works to a degree

Disadvantages Disadvantages A nice drink with added caffeine for a short boost of energy!

When it comes to guzzling energy drinks, of late I have slowed down in purchasing and drinking them. At one point I could always be spotted drinking one, desperately trying to get a much needed energy rush however since being diagnosed with M.E and Klein Levin Syndrome (Sleeping Beauty disorder) I have stopped short realising that no matter how much I seemed to guzzle them they didn't do very much for me at all and I was quite simply wasting my money! However the other night I was out and about shopping and simply flagging slightly. I'd had a busy day so when in Asda I decided to pick one of ... more

    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Gives you energy, well priced, not fizzy

Disadvantages Disadvantages Flavour is quite weak, high in sugar

My son came home from his nans about 6 months ago with a bottle of Powerade. This was a drink I had never previously seen before, but my son had caught sight of it in the shops and decided he wanted one. I didn’t take much notice of what the drink was until my son asked me to try some. This was when I noticed it was a sports drink, rather than just a standard thirst quenching drink. It wasn’t obvious to me by the bottle itself, though I suppose the name ‘Powerade’ gave it away somewhat and my mother said she hadn’t realised either or else she wouldn’t have brought it for him as in my mind he ... more

4 Stars Orange Powerade - Try Before You Buy. Review with images 22/03/2011
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Low in Calories, Good Value for Money, Energises and Rehydrates, Easy to Hold whilst excercising.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Energy drinks are always understandably second best to drinking water whilst doing excercise.

It is quite uncommon for me to write reviews on drinks, however i have slightly increased my fluid intake over the last couple of weeks, due to the enhanced energy drink Powerade, Orange flavoured in particular. I was aware that Powerade was an energy drink, but it was only since my departure to America in which i was bombarded with Powerade and Gatorade that I first tried the drink. I felt that it had a nice taste and kept me going when i had a busy day ahead of me (although i do recommend that food is also eaten, as energy drinks are an insufficent supply of energy for the human body.) I ... more

in my opinion the new powerade orange is not as good as the other powerades on the market. It might have something to do with it tastes more like fanta and i think fizzy drinks arent the best thing to drink when you are training in a high impact and high workout sport.other energy drinks on the market are alot better for you when you need to hydrate and also keep your energy levels and salts up.Energy drinks that have electolytes in are very good for when you are training and also after training during the recovery period. Some of the best energy drinks i have come across are the SIS range. They ... more
