A cinderella story Review ofPride and Prejudice - Jane Austenby

Advantages: Has everything to offer and nothing to lose Disadvantages: none
*NB*
About the title. There are those who would argue that the novel is a precursor to feminist literature based on the strong and intelligent personality of the heroine, Elizabeth, but I would disagree. To me, although she does stand against social norms and expectations at times, by the end of the book, she fulfills precisely what she is supposed to do - secure her future and that of her sisters, marry well, be rich, and she winds up happy - ergo, ...

Advantages: Exceptional reading, pleasant style, definitely romantic Disadvantages: Starts very slow, takes long time to develop the plot
The book has 3 volumes to it with each volume having a different kind of dealing between the two main characters, Lizzie and Mr. Darcy. The first volume has 23 chapters in it. The second and the third volume each have 19 chapters.
The book started off quite slowly but then began growing in intensity the further I got in the book. I do like reading the classics but am quite surprised that I have never read the book before. My overall impressions ...

...lto more classic fiction. Pride and Prejudice is one of the best classic novels around. It has at its heart a traditional story of love overcoming the odds, but despite this cliché Austen still manages to craft an original an very amusing novel.
The plot is not as simple as it may at first seem. For a start there is not one love story here, but several. Some are tales of thwarted love, for example Mrs Bingley's pursuit of Mr Darcy, others are tales ...

Advantages: Wonderful character development, a story which urges you on till the very end Disadvantages: Quite long, complicated language for some
...I relished every word of Pride and Prejudice the second time round, and would recommend it to anyone who likes a good "humdinger" (as my English teacher used to say) of a love story, with no naff sex scenes or nasty infidelity or uncomfortable revenge. Just normal people like you and me getting over the hurdles of 18th century society to get their man or woman and live in comfortable £10,000 a year aristocratic comfort with the partner of their dreams. ...

Published in 1813, Pride and Prejudice is probably jane Austen's best known work, and for good reason. It is based on the life of Austen's favourite heroine, Elizabeth Bennet, a girl with razor sharp wit and very strong opinions, who is liked by friends and relatives, the sort of girl we want to be.
The book follows her life at Longbourne with her sisters Jane, Mary, Kitty and Lydia. Whilst Kitty and Lydia, the youngest two, search ...

Advantages: the delightful mr darcy, jane austen is the author, need i say more? Disadvantages: none
...How wrong this opinion is. Pride and Prejudice was written by Jane Austen in 1813 and is by far her most popular novel.
When Elizabeth Bennet first meets eligible bachelor Fitzwilliam Darcy (the 2 main characters of the book), she thinks him arrogant and conceited, while he struggles to remain indifferent to her good looks and lively mind. Jane Austen shows the folly of judging by first impressions and superbly evokes the friendships, gossip and ...

Advantages: Funny, astute rendering of daily life and social mores in pre-Industrial England Disadvantages: None, except for the inept way it's taught in school
When I was small, my mother used to read to me every night before bed. At first it was “The Wind in the Willows” and Dr. Seuss and Pooh and other works of that ilk. But as soon as I was old enough to lie still and listen, she switched to the classics. We worked our disjointed way through “David Copperfield” and “Pickwick Papers” - Mom seemed to be fascinated by Dickens - and “The Romance of King Arthur” and “Pride and Prejudice.” I have to confess ...

Advantages: Novel: literature at it's best. Series: Colin Firth, wet Disadvantages: Nothing
When you think about the novelist Jane Austen (as you do), what first springs to mind? for me it is most definately 'Pride and Prejudice', a novel which i have learned to love, yet once loathed. At school, it was thrust upon me; it was such a fat book, how was i ever going to read it all?? the mound of essays to be done on it didn't help either, 15 year old girls just aren't interested in the types of abstract nouns used in the first chapter of the ...

...not overly enthusistic about reading Pride and Prejudice is no overstatement! However, I did not let this prejudice deter me!
I was glad to be proved wrong.
From the onset, Pride and Prejudice provides us with an interesting array of characters, themes (overt and underlying ones) and situations which keep us completely hooked from beginning to end.
I had the good fortune to read the novel before the BBC adaptation. Although the BBC version ...

...in the long run, and Pride and Prejudice is a fine example of this. Beneath the witty repartee and sociable bickering between Elizabeth and Darcy (now forever inseparable in my mind from Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth in the BBC production), we witness the subtle evolution of two young people instructing each other in the fair judgment of character.
Overlaying this most prominent level of the narrative is Austen's cutting commentary on what remains ...

Advantages: Warm, amusing, ironic, didactic, romantic novel Disadvantages: Appeals more to the feminine reader.
Austen is the quintessential authoress of the romantic period. She blends direct speech with free indirect speech and the narrative voice: to produce a charming, realistic novel.
She potrays the feelings, fears and fantasies of the adolesent female in the early nineteenth century.
Austen uses Irony to its fullest effect, producing some witty to comical scenarios. The reader will find themselves smiling often, even laughing on occassions.
