Football lands on the WII

Advantages: An innovitive control system that adds to the experience
Disadvantages: poor tackling, disappointing team names and slightly poorer graphics in matches

...I found the Fifa and Pro Evo series to be my favourites. When I recently got rid of my Xbox and replaced it with a Nintendo WII I wasn't entirely sure how I would still be able to satisfy my desire to play Football games on a console. That was until I was given a copy of Pro Evo 2008 by my fiancée for my birthday and the chance to find out if my enjoyment of football games was totally gone had presented itself. It was always going to be a tricky ...
...about the WII version of Pro Evo soccer isn't the graphics or the lack of official licences but it is in fact the control system. Konami have introduced the advanced point and click control system that enables you to make runs into space and plan passes well ahead of the actual game play. The real question though, is does it really work? As it happens my opinion is a resounding yes. The new method of play that allows you to plan your runs, shooting ...

Pro Evo 2008 Wii, a pleasant surprise!

Advantages: Innovative controls, great new champions road, reliable online
Disadvantages: fairly average/poor graphics

Well, being an avid FIFA player for the last 8 years I wasn't as excited about this title as many others were as i had never played a 'pro evo' game in my life! However i didn't know just how wrong i was! This games is immersive, fun and you can pick it up and play at any time which are all the qualities i love in a game! Okay, we'll start with the negatives just to get them out of the way! :) Firstly, although I never buy a game for the graphics ...
...game could look a lot better. You can see the resemblance between famous players and their game counterparts but work on this for the next edition is necessary (especially on body sizes). My second gripe is that there is no option to make transfers (although there is another method of acquiring new players which is explained further on in this review) so oyu cannot choose to just suddenly put a major start such as Cristiano Ronaldo into your team. ...

An Evolution In Football Gaming

Advantages: lots of unique combos to master, great controls, 2-player mode
Disadvantages: some users might find it hard to adapt to all the Wii controls

...a bit clumsy. I encountered Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 one weekend in the Tesco sale. It must have been about £6-7, so I just had to buy it. You would be foolish not to, right? To begin with, there is quite a long tutorial that you need to complete before you can pick up the ropes and master the controls well enough to compete against the best teams in the world. You will learn how to run, dribble, pass, tackle, header, intercept, shoot, save and ...
...control system is what makes Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 on the Wii shine! When you have finished the tutorial you can get straight into some practise matches and really start to warm to the game as you begin to master the controls. It is here when you will pick up your own tactics and develop your playing style that will be carried over to cup winning glory. This game is best played with a bunch of friends where you can show off your skills and to ...

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 (Wii)

Advantages: Gameplay online play something totally new
Disadvantages: graphics are not that good but dont let that put you off

took some time getting used to the controls as this new territory for the wii, having to point your remote were you want the players to run onto was very confusing at first, could of easily have given up but went to the practice mode and went through tutorials, defiently recommend doing this as it can be ery overwhelming at first, but once got through and mastered the basics along with a few tricks and skills i love it. graphics arent the best but ...
...gameplay is amazing and totally diifferent from what i have played on a football game before seem to be in control of more players at any time, been playing on the champions road at the moment and can hardly put it down. This gives you missions to do and the more you do means you can recruit better players for your team. You also have the normal cup and league mode and another massive advantage is being able to play online. All in all had my doubts ...

Pro evo 1 - Fifa 0

Advantages: Very addictive and FUN
Disadvantages: Hard to get to grips with

Pro evo on the wii. Didn't know if I should've waited for Fifa 09, but boy, was I in for a shock!! First off, the controls are HARD to get to grips with, (it took me 4 or 5 practise matches) but after you know how to play, you'll realise the game is absolute genius. Fun for everyone. Games modes are good, especially champions road, which takes a team from zeroes to soccer heroes. Graphics are nice, although they could be improved. Not as good as ...

Pro Evolution: Can it be any better?

Advantages: Excellent Gameplay, And Great Controls
Disadvantages: Graphics lack slightly

Innovative Controls, Addicting Gameplay, Original Game Modes, what doesn't this game have. Drag your center forwards into the box and run down the wing and then come in with a diving header. One example of the addicting gameplay that PES 2008 involves. There are so many things that i want to say about this game that i cannot write down. Let's start with the different modes that this game involves, it has the original play match mode. It has the original ...
...do a penalty shootout. But you can also play as your Mii character with a large head or in proportion. This is in genius and is really fun when you are against someone else as you can use the Wii's off your remote. Then there is champions road, this is when you can either select your own own team or create one and then you play tournaments against other teams and play matches over the Wi-Fi connection. Also whenever you play someone you will then ...

Pro Evo - a new twist

Advantages: new controls
Disadvantages: graphics, team emblems

...Chicken or egg? Fifa or Pro Evo? In my opinion the answer to the last question has always been Fifa. However with the introduction of a new console, the Nintendo Wii, Pro Evo has certainly pulled it back. The main thing that stands out is the unique controls. Rather than the usual analog stick and buttons control, Pro Evo allows you to point ans click, giving you full control over passes and runs. It is daunting at first, but is clearly explained ...
...with only the essentials. Also, you can play a game with your created miis, which is a very novel idea. There is also a wireless function, for games against friends or strangers. Now for the negatives: The graphics are pretty average, and are easily beaten by Fifa. The club names, kits and emblems are incorrect except for a few, so names have to be changed which is tedious. Overall, if you are happy with the old basis, go for fifa. If you want ...

PES2008 Wii Innovative!

Advantages: Innovative control system, online mode.
Disadvantages: Licensing

This is the best football game i have EVER played, the control system is innovative and works superbly although it takes a few games to get the hang of it. The best thing about the game is the 'online' mode, it works very well and is a lot of fun testing your skills against other players from across the globe, you can either play a friend or a free match against a random competitor. Other interesting modes include championship mode, which is also ...

Great use of controls..but some drawbacks

Advantages: Control use, many playing modes, good multiplayer
Disadvantages: Graphics, No normal season/career mode, Just swing nunchuk to shoot

...brings all the realism of Pro Evolution Soccer to the Nintendo machine, but with a more 'team-orientated' control system. This game mirrors the reality of a football match - making use of open space and exploiting defensive lapses and performing very accurate passes essential in creating scoring opportunities. The Wii version of PES 2008 expands on these elements, with the use of the Nunchuck and Wii Remote controllers giving the player control over ...
...===Features=== * Using a point and drag system, the player uses the Wii Remote to guide the player with the ball, and perform all the skill moves and close control with subtle movements of their hand. Instantly, the Wii Remote is used to point at nearby players to select them to receive a pass or to latch on to a through-ball. The Remote can also be used to steer the run of the receiving player, giving extra control as they thread through masses ...

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008

Advantages: Amazing controls and online.
Disadvantages: Poor graphics.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is amazing on wii because of the controls however the graphics are not as good as Fifa 08 but the controls are better than Fifa 08. I was excited about this pes 08 coming out and was waiting for this game for months but when it came out it was alright. The game could look better when you shoot you can't ell if it has gone in or not because where the camera is placed you can't tell which side of the post it is. Also another ...

A good effort at reinventing perfection

Advantages: great new control system, same pro evo gameplay
Disadvantages: graphics not as good as other systems, dodgey defending

When i first heard that pro evolution soccer was coming to the wii i was very excited as this is my favorite football game due to its perfect control system on other consoles and became the footballers choice of football games over rival fifa. I was very interested in how the developers would make the game as playable on the wii with obvious differences in controllers. I have to say they did a superb job in crossing it over. Using the wii remote ...
...was a stoke of genius. no game has offered so great off the ball movement from players, so no more players standing in bad postions hurrah! the passing works with a button by kick the ball where your point the remote, so if you dont point directly at a player it will work like a through ball nd the player will move to the ball and shooting is controled by shaking the nunchuck. Downsides are the graphics nowhere near as good as on the xbox or ps3. ...

Beg, borrow or steal to buy this game

Advantages: Great controls, graphics, general gameplay
Disadvantages: Licensing

The controls in this game are a revolution and it is absolutely brilliant being able to point with the wii remote and direct your pass in that direction. It does however take a while to get a hang of the controls, and once you do, total concentration is required to avoid defensive blunders. A new feature is also the ability to click on teamates and tell them where to move meaning you can create space and play 1 2s. PES has managed to get more players ...
