Psion 3a used every day since Oct 1996
Review of Psion Series 3a by johnalderton

Advantages: Well constructed, very well thought out and easy to use software, excellent battery life.
Disadvantages: Backing up onto PC is not too easy.

I bought my Psion 3a in 1996 as I wanted a way of keeping track of appointments while travelling around in my work. The Psion is easy to use, and it is only rarely that I have needed to consult the (excellent) instruction manual. Battery life is excellent, and the display is clear and sharp. Even though it is now four and a half years old it is very well made and still looks like new. There are plenty of add-on programs available either on the ... Read review

The Original Laptop
Review of Psion Series 3a by donf18

Advantages: It's very portable
Disadvantages: hard to find now, but worth the effort

Sadly My Psion is on it's last legs, the hinges where the screen flips up are broken............it still works great just needs a new body, a bit like myself. My wife bought me my Psion Series 3 years ago, and I have used it continuously since then. The basic unit is 16.5cm * 2.2cm *8.5cm, which is a bit bigger than the PDA's going around just now. At it's heart is an NEC V30 7.7Mhz processor. I know what your thinking 7.7Mhz very slow. Well by ... Read review

A little outdated. Great until the hinge breaks
Review of Psion Series 3a by Kevin_Pritchard

Advantages: Still pretty neat several years later
Disadvantages: The hinge breaks. Not state of the art any more

A Psion 3a was the first PDA that I owned. At the time it was way in advance of anything else on the market. The fact that it has a keyboard (which is quite useable) makes it more useful for doing things like word processing than a pen based PDA (not that I recommend writing a novel on it). The calendar facility is as good as you can hope for - it offers a wide range of event frequencies and the option to put any audio file you want as the alarm ... Read review

The Psion 3a - My little workhorse
Review of Psion Series 3a by TimothyC

Advantages: More useful than a Filofax and you can play games on it too
Disadvantages: Expensive to repair

I have a Psion 3a with 2mb memory. This is comparable to the newer versions of the 3 except it is slower and doesn't have the notepad feature. I inherited my Psion and it was one of those things that I never knew I couldn't live without. Beforehand I had to store all my friends and families birthdays on bits of paper in my Filofax. Now I can just forget about the birthdays until I get an alarm two weeks before the due date, then all I have to do is ... Read review

Above par
Review of Psion Series 3a by tim0001

Advantages: VERY small and compact
Disadvantages: not much software available these days

...surprised when I bought a Psion series 3mx. The processor was around 30mhz and caused the machine to run very quickly. The machines now date back to around 1993, but they are still one of the best handhelds today. They have plenty of memory to store your files and programs, and if you somehow use up the memory you can buy cards that give even more. They are cheap to pick up these days, and are well worth the money. They feature Spreadsheet, Word ... Read review

Old, but not dead
Review of Psion Series 3a by ShaunK

Advantages: Cheap these days, very versatile, long battery life
Disadvantages: No longer cutting edge technology

The Psion 3a (2MB version) has been in my posession for over 4 years now, and is still in daily use after all this time. The number of software applications available for the 3a is staggering - many free on on shareware over the internet. The applications that I use most are DP Bank (shareware) which is a personal accounts package, AutoRoute Express (route planner), Monopoly, Scrabble and most of the built in programmes. I recently teamed the Psion ... Read review

All good
Review of Psion Series 3a by stephenjwz

Advantages: Small, good soft and hard ware
Disadvantages: a little old

...hardware extrad were introduced by psion and others. all the applications are pc standard, and produce files in compatible formats, convertible through psion software. these models used the symbian/epoc operating system which was similar enough to windows that it would be easy to learn, but different in that the files producen and programs run took up much less memory, allowing psion to use 128k-2mb ram memory models to save money as well as making ... Filofax fan converted!
Review of Psion Series 3a by China.girl

Advantages: Small, easy to update, does a lot more than an organiser
Disadvantages: Quite heavy, need to invest a lot of time learning the system before it becomes really useful

I've had my psion 3c (2mb ram) since just after they were first brought out, and I wouldn't be without it. I used to be a filofax fan, but my psion is so much more useful. It has some really good features: ADDRESS BOOK - gone are the days of multi scribbling out when someone moves - you just edit the text - you can edit the information it stores to include just about everything from a name and address to an e-mail address, mobile phone and inside ... Power in the palm of your hand
Review of Psion Series 3a by scoobyman

Advantages: Super bit of kit - small and compact
Disadvantages: Little outdated now

...of a new revolution, the Psion 3 series is a super little performer. The strong points? Well, everything you could really ask for is there in such a compact space. Word processing, spreadsheets and diary facilities are the highlights. Other features tend to be "nice" but not really essential, such as the sound recorder and programming ability. Pointless, but nice. One of the more entertaining features is mixing sound recorder with alarm. Record ... Read review

Cheap, convenient, and ready for action
Review of Psion Series 3a by hedzy

Advantages: All singing, all dancing
Disadvantages: Bulky, and superceeded several times.

If you have a poor memory, and you need a PDA with no frills, get yourself a second hand 3a, like I did, for about £45. I got it from a Use Group on the net, and it was very well worth it. A full (small keyboard), good screen size, reasonable memory, and several key functions (Dbase, Spreadsheet, Word, Calculator, Global times for alarms). There are also two drives for flash memory cards, and you can pick up extra software packages from places like ... Read review

would be lost without it
Review of Psion Series 3a by andydenton

Advantages: basic and easy to use, powerful enough to handle most things
Disadvantages: no longer available as new

...over six years with my psion 3a it is still going strong and I would be lost without it. It does not have a lot of memory and I cannot do all the 'modern' things like surf the web etc but who cares. As a basic pda for managing my finances, birthdays, and meetings I could not ask for anything more from it. The features are basic but detailed enough to handle anything that you may want to do. Over the six years I have owned it I have only ever ... Read review

Long Time User
Review of Psion Series 3a by aderussell

Advantages: Flexible and fast.
Disadvantages: Screen not easy to read.

I originally got into Psion when I bought one of the original 'bricks'. Anyone old enough to remember them will know what I mean. It was an XP if I remember correctly. I then got a 3, then a 3a and now I have a 3mx. Just goes to show how good they are if I have stayed with them. In my job I need to keep lots of database type information. It has to be flexible in the way it is input and tailored to my needs. It has to be easy to search using any words ... Read review

My report On the Psion 3a
Review of Psion Series 3a by simonwhistler

Advantages: Simple and does what is required
Disadvantages: Not very sturdy

I have a psion series 3a which I got a few years ago. I think that it is an exellent piece of tecnology if you don't want anything to hard to understand. I think that it is designed for the solem purpose that it stores phone numbers, has a diary and all the other features of a personal computer. Although it is a good five years old and doesnt have the biggest memory of them all I still think that it is ussfull for organisation and I would be lost ... Read review

My old favourite
Review of Psion Series 3a by AndreBoyle

Advantages:
Disadvantages:

It had a tiny screen and almost no memory worth talking about (256Kb) but it was the first PDA I ever owned. I part payed for it with my parents who got it fr me for Xmas one year quite a while ago now. Don't know just how many times I sneeked peeks at it under the cover of a pine-tree. It really did chage with way I did things. I started to use it for homework at the time and used it to keep track of what I was doing where and when (Oh such a busy ... Read review

Don't buy a psion!
Review of Psion Series 3a by al.hassan

Advantages: Uncountable
Disadvantages: None

...out how to work a psion you may spend hours upon end and even then not achieve anything. At the moment my psion is gathering dust. The whole of my class except two people find those extremely depressing and sad. If you want to protect your image buy any personal organiser except a Psion. In fact if you are planning to have a good reputation don’t buy a personal organiser. What’s wrong with paper and pen?! ... Read review
