Advantages Advantages Strong, holds good amount of fluid

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not so good in dishwasher

One of the first things my mum bought me when I got my own house was a Pyrex jug, a funny present yes, but it’s surprising how many times you will come to use a measuring jug during the course of a week. And Mum being Mum wanted me to have a good quality one, hence the reason for it being Pyrex. Since then I noticed that she had not one but two Pyrex jugs in her collection and so I also expanded mine – I now have a ½ litre jug and also a 1 litre jug – which is the one I’ll be reviewing here. From the photo it looks like it’s the larger 1 litre version anyway. I’ve had my 1 litre Pyrex jug for ... more

Advantages Advantages Tough, easy to use, not only for measuring but for general use.

Disadvantages Disadvantages None, except if you drop it!

My 1litre Pyrex jug must be the hardest working (with the exception of myself!) utensil in my kitchen. It does not have a home on a shelf or in a cupboard because it never gets time to be put away before it is next in use! at the moment it is having a breather on my computer desk, but not for long!. I´ve had this one so long I can´t remember where I bought it and it still looks good. It weighs in at 800g and measures 10cm high with a diameter of 15cm, the glass itself is actually 0.5cm thick with a sturdy open handle opposite the spout. On both sides in bright red are the metric and imperial ... more

Advantages Advantages sturdy, accurate measurements, freezer, dishwasher, oven and microwave safe

Disadvantages Disadvantages can crack if mistreated, slightly pricey

I have now been living in my own house for over 10 years, and before that in student digs, so I have had a long time to set up home. Like most people, I have a selection of pyrex from various relatives having a clear out, so when I came to buying some items of my own I knew that I would be making a wise purchase buying this brand. Made in France, pyrex is a name that means quality to me. The jugs can be used in the microwave or the oven for heating, and they are both dishwasher and freezer safe. I currently own a 1 litre and a 0.5 litre measuring jug. The 0.5 litre one I have been using for ... more

Advantages Advantages A quality jug for use in the kitchen

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

In my kitchen, my wife and I find it essential to have a measuring jug to enable us to measure out precise volumes when preparing meals. We own a 1 litre Pyrex Measuring Jug which we bought from Robert Dyas for £4.99 as we wanted a quality brand measuring jug. There is very little packing to go with this measuring jug, except for a basic green label with the Pyrex logo in white letters, which was stuck to the side of the jug. Pyrex is a brand name and is made from borosilicate glass which means that it can be heated to temperatures up to 300 degrees. The Pyrex logo also appears on the jug in ... more

Advantages Advantages Stain proof, heat proof, will last a very long time

    Disadvantages Disadvantages A tad heavy

Pyrex is a well established brand offering different cookware, bakeware and prepware products. My mum has always used Pyrex products so it was inevitable I was going to do the same when I moved out. I set about stocking up my cookware cupboard with lots of Pyrex goods, one of them the measuring jug. I am aware that there are much cheaper plastic jugs on the market, but I always recall my nans old manky orange stained jug being used every time we went to visit. With using a lot of tomato based products I’d go through them jugs like there is no tomorrow. So I opted for the more expensive Pyrex ... more

Advantages Advantages Copes well with lots of temperatures robust and lasts a long time

Disadvantages Disadvantages I would of liked a 100ml starting point for measuring

I have had my Pyrex jug more years than I care to remember and it is still as good as the day I got it, the Jug I have is the 1 litre version however it is also available in a 500ml version too. Pyrex is made from borosilicate glass this is a special blend of components that are heated to very high temperatures and melted to form glass. What this means is that Pyrex is suitable for all types of cooking be it oven or microwave and it can withstand temperatures of 300 degrees. Equally it can cope with cold temperatures making it suitable for the fridge and freezer too. Pyrex also doesn't take on ... more

For the past few months in my house I have been cooking but have always forgotten to purchase a measuring jug. It really is an essential in any kitchen and it has not been easy to do things without one. I have been using the kettle up until now as a guide but really I wanted a Pyrex measuring jug so when I came across one I had to buy it as they are the best. I have gone through measuring jugs in the past that have cracked and split so I was hoping this being the best brand that it stood the test of time. APPEARANCE Looking at this jug it is very simple to look at it is a glass jug and in red ... more

Advantages Advantages Clearly marked, can hold large amounts of ingredients, strong and hardwearing

Disadvantages Disadvantages Quite heavy, a bit bulky

For as long as I can remember my mum always had Pyrex jugs in the cupboard which she used for cooking and I remember that they could be used for a variety of different things. So when I was shopping around for things for my kitchen a couple of years ago when I bought my own house some Pyrex jugs was definitely on the list, I was looking for one which had a variety of measurements on it but mainly pints and litres. There is a wide range of Pyrex jugs today but when shopping in my local home ware shop Home Sense I found the ideal jug (as well as a couple of others) Appearance The Pyrex jug which ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None for me

I don't like paying over the odds for something basic like a measuring jug but having bought cheaper alternatives and plastic ones I've always found Pyrex to be the best in terms of quality and ease of use. The Pyrex Measuring jugs are available in different sizes depending on what you want, but I opted for the 0.5L as I knew it would be enough for measuring small quantities and using it to pour liquids (ie. yummy gravy for Sunday lunch). Its 1 pint capacity is suitable enough for me, but you can upgrade for a little bit more and get 1L if necessary. The jug is clear glass with red lines / ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

A cheap, very versatile kitchen product that everyone should own. When it comes to kitchen utensils that I use all the time this jug has to be one of them. The great thing about it is that it's extremely cheap too but very helpful. Whenever you cook, even if you are just a stir in the water and heat it up type of cook, you generally need to know how much water to add to a meal. I make a lot of casseroles with Heinz mixes and they always require you to mix the powder packet with a certain amount of water. With the pyrex jug it's very simple to just add the water from the tap and then stir in ... more
