5 Stars RAC saved Rex! 11/05/2009

    Advantages Advantages Great Service

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None for me

When I purchased my first car upon turning 17 I received 3 years free RAC cover with the deal. Fantastic. Fast forward 5 years and I have only ever used their service once, something I would consider to be a good thing. However, my one single experience was a very positive one and I am now with them as a loyal member in my new car also. I thought I would share my experience to show the level of service that I received. My Experience -------------------- As I said, my level of cover came as part of the deal I got when purchasing Rex, (Rex being a now 5 year old black Hyundai Getz and my first ... more

Advantages Advantages They do all the mucky stuff for you!

Disadvantages Disadvantages If you aren't a priority case customer (i.e. pregnant / stranded), you may have to wait longer.

“Oi darlin’, yer lights ain’t on!”. If it wasn’t for that shout at the traffic lights when driving back from the gym I would have been none the wiser, until maybe driving down a dark road and having someone violently shunt up my bumper. . . I got home, checked around my car and yes, everything else worked but my tail lights were dead. I tried to access the bulbs via the boot but could not for the life of me get the carpet screw plugs out. Boyf then tried to ‘help’ by telling me to switch on the car interior light to look for the “over-ride switch”. I don’t know quite what he was thinking; my ... more

I have just read a few negative reviews regarding this breakdown service and I feel I have to defend the boys in the orange vans as I have nothing but praise for them. I have had to use the RAC a few times… mainly when I had to drive a Vauxhall Vectra for a short time… Every one knows what the RAC are about so I simply wanted to give you a members experience of why I rate them as a recovery company… I joined using the Roadside assistance together with the 'At home' service, which means that wherever a break down they will come to my rescue… My first experience was when I had just passed my ... more

The RAC - a motoring institution, and one I have had a good deal of experience with, despite my tender age, and the fact I've only been driving for five years. Of necessity, this is a lengthy review. This is largely a review of the RAC's breakdown service, including: Introduction Calling the RAC - the mechanics of it Experiences: The M1: running out of petrol Experiences: The A14: Failing electrics Experiences: Services on the M4: Corroded Brake Pads Experiences: Back on the M1: Electrics (2) Experiences: Local Sainsbury's: Battery Failure Pricing Other Services Summary - Introduction - As a ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent Service, Fairly Priced, Fast Response

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None I Think!

I originally took out RAC cover back in September in 1999; the reason for this was that my car was getting fairly old and not as reliable as it once was. I had stopped in a motorway service station and was approached by one of the salesman. You know the ones, the annoying ones that approach you on the way in and on the way out with the same question. All I had to pay was £30 then and the rest by direct debit over 3 months, easy enough so I took out the cover. A few months after that it was bought to my attention that because of the company I worked for I was entitled to a discount with RAC ... more

It can be difficult finding a good rescue breakdown service. You’ve only got 3 major ones really, AA, RAC and Greenflag, and as green flag don’t seem to like young drivers, from what I’ve figured out, it narrows the choice down even further for us younger drivers. I’ve heard good and bad stories for both AA and RAC, so it really is pot luck as to which will give you the better service. It depends on your location, your car, your sex (females get served better with breakdown services, it’s a well known fact, and one I’m not going to argue with), your package ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages To the Orange Van!

There was a story told by older boys when I was a younger boy about The Snake Pass, or to give it a more exciting moniker, the A57, which was a road that left from our village on the Cheshire/Derbyshire borders and took you over the moors of the High and Dark Peaks and over into the mysterious world they called “Meadowhall.” Hold a torch under your chin and join in. A Husband and Wife were driving at night time on the Snakes Pass, through mist and low cloud. Their car breaks down, and steam pours from under the bonnet, so the dutiful husband tells his wife to stay in the car, and lock the ... more

Choosing a breakdown organisation always feels a little like taking a prepayment plan for your own funeral, but maybe that’s just my morbid side shining through. Given that we all want that extra bit of security on the road, which organisation should we choose? Firstly, I should admit that I used to work for the RAC some years ago – although as a Network Support Engineer, rather than a patrol. This will explain how I know about the workings inside the RAC; I leave it to you to decide if that experience has swayed my opinion here. The RAC operates a national breakdown service with their own ... more

A long, long time ago, back in the days of the rusty, not so trusty automobiles, before even hubby became my hubby and before the patchwork welding had barely dried, there was a car. As you may have gathered, it was at a time when a car was a bare necessity to get to and from work but nowhere near affordable let alone reliable and decent. Yep, unless you were born with a spoon in yer gob, you know about the heaps I’m talking about. Everyone must have had at least one in their lifetime, and they must forever be regarded with almost fond appreciation, weary reluctance and sad, nonsensical ... more

We have been members of the RAC for the past two years - the first year we paid direct debit and we made use of the service about 5 times without any problems what so ever....they managed to get the car picked up after an accident even before the police arrived! So we had moved and unfortunately forgotten our breakdown cover was up for renewal - ahhh the clutch clip went - and on xantias they can not be mended by the RAC or any others for that matter....Ahh what do we do next we wondered as we sat there on the road side...ring the parents get them to pay on their credit card and we are sorted ... more
