...response to terrorist situations (callsign Rainbow Six). Like UPS with guns. His group is comprised of SAS, Israelis, French, Germans etc and works in collaboration with world governments to kick ass and chew bubblegum wherever appropriate. Clancys descriptions of Rainbow Six's takedowns of various and often very believable terrorist situations is absolutely gripping and really makes you picture the action in your head. Everything from Amusement ...
...franchise of this character with Rainbow 6 as he did with Jack Ryans character (Clarke has appeared previously in Clancys books but not as a main charcter). Overall, it's an intelligently written book with suspenseful moments that makes you wish the Americans really were that good at dealing with global threats. Available in hardback and paperback from virtually all stores, I would recommend it as a good read for those who like warfare based Thrillers ...

...from the side of the Rainbow warriors and from the opposition. The research that goes into such a book has been well carried out. There are no glaringly obvious gaps or unbelievable weapons or tactics used. The science side appears sound also. Everything appears to be totally logical and done for a reason. Here Tom Clancy has been very clever. Instead of the usual type of terrorist, the villains are what would normally be considered as the heights ...
...The action switching from the Rainbow personnel to the others. The action travels at a fast pace, especially the action sequences. Anti terrorist strikes are well handled and you Appreciate the problems of forces who have to undertake such operations. You can also see the appeal for computer games. The opposition has, in some reviews, been labelled as "crazies". This is the norm for those who oppose, But are they? This is not your "normal" world ...

...of the exploits of the Rainbow Six team, and on the other he follows a Russian, who is ex-KGB but is being asked to perform some strange chores. These chores directly affect the Rainbow Six team. There is an overall reason for these events happening when they do, but I would rather you read it yourself than I give the game away. Clancy is a brilliant storyteller. He feeds you the information in little sections at just the right time so that you ...
...He creates circumstances that are completely believable and possibly a little worrying. You begin to realise that the things that happen in this story, could also happen in real life if the right people wished it so. I found this book to be a very compelling read that I rarely put down. I found that the author never went off on tangents and so the story flowed very nicely. The price on the back of the book says £6.99, but I’m sure that it ...

Just brillliant

Advantages: Great Plot,Good characters
Disadvantages: A little long for some people

I bought Rainbow Six because I had played the computer game of the same name (which is brilliant by the way) and i liked the sound of the plot. It is a long book (800+ pages) but believe me it is worth it. The book keeps you hooked because there are about three different storylines going on throughout the book which only come together at the end. The basic proviso behind the game is that a new multinational taskforce recruited from the cream of the ...
...travels all around the world and does the job if the local police can't handle a hostage situation or similiar terrorist goings on. This force is called Rainbow and its leasder is John Clark, codenamed Six, hence the name. Anyway this book is brilliant, BUY IT NOW!!!!!!! ...

Disappointed!

Advantages: Good basis of a storyline
Disadvantages: Very Long (897 pages)

Rainbow Six based around a multi-national Special Forces team based in England, and is run by, surprise surprise, an American. Anti-American tendancies aside, the book mainly follows John Clark, the Head of Rainbow Six but branches of to follow each incident, before returning again to the main storyline. After watching the films ‘Clear& Present Danger’ and ‘Patriot Games’, I’d been waiting for this book by the same writer, Tom Clancy. Having said ...

No pot of gold at the end

Advantages: Clancy's excellent technical writing
Disadvantages: Too far fetched.

...finally getting around to reading Rainbow Six. However, I must say it was a bit of a disappointment. The plot for me was just too far fetched. The two main characters, Domingo (Ding) Chavez and John Clarke are beginning to show there age, and it all seemed a little bit like Clancy was desperately trying to wring out another book 'starring' these two. The bite and excitement of Clear and Present Danger, where these two were really introduced, was ...
...throughout. Chavez's impending fatherhood is also a bit of a bizarre side-track, and adds nothing to the story. And I also found the constant references to England and English life a bit patronising. The comment about how hard it is to master the art of driving with roundabouts seemed to make Americans appear a touch stupid, and the references to the surprisingly good beer were annoying. That said, the technical stuff is as usual excellent. The ...

With Jack Ryan now safely ensconsed as the president John Clark and his son in law/assistant are unemployed so they are given new work to do in leading the crack worldwide anti terrorist/hostage rescue squad. Advantages: White knuckle ride in your house, thriller, great fun, dare i say; one for the family

R A I N B O W S I X How great is this book? It takes a while to get going but Mr. Clancy certainly has an imagination alright. In my opinion this book has been severely under-rated, it has only had justice by having the production of the Action- Strategy game completed. This book is one that i may forget in future years, BUT, i will come back to all 600+ pages to re-read and enjoy it all again... John Clark and his squad who kick some serious ...

The Rainbox Special forces unit has members from elite units all over the world (England,Israel,Germany,America etc), that is designed to remain in the background and called into action when the situation calls for them. Their Missions are mostly run of the mill stuff such as Hostage rescues however as the book progresses they find themselves getting into more and more dangerous situations even upto the point where their unit is brutally ambushed. ...

Disadvantages: Slightly predictable and lacks punch.

...buy it! Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six is a must have for all you gamers out there that enjoyed the game. It fully embodies the hazy areas in the game, giving the plot true depth and character. ...as far as thrillers go Rainbow six may seem to many, as yet another glorification of the international systems police, "Mr America with the world's safety at the forefront of his agenda". It's a common trait for many of Mr Clancy's novels and it can therefore become slightly uninteresting to read other novels from the author. Although gripping, the story line does have a degree of predictability, and towards the end of the 800 page book you find ...

Rainbow is the codename for a secret crime fighting operation based in Heroford in the UK.
