Advantages Advantages The music, the atmosphere, the people!

Disadvantages Disadvantages The prices, and of course the toilets...

To the world outside the rock, punk, indie, metal and alternative music scene, many won't have heard of Reading Festival. But to those living in this rockin' world, The Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals are one of the highlights of the year, held on the bank holiday weekend of each! Running since 1970, every year at Reading and Leeds there has been at least one set that goes on to become legendary. These include Hole's set, in Reading '95, a year after Kurt Cobain's suicide, with Courtney Love being forcibly dragged offstage by security after 30 minutes; New Order's magnificent come ... more

Advantages Advantages Great music, great bands and a great atmosphere

Disadvantages Disadvantages horrible toilets, horrible food and big queues for the bar

I went to reading on the Sunday. Heres my opinion on the day. The arena opened at 11 o’clock and we all flooded in. Before the music started I walked around the arena seeing what was there. Here is some information on the facilities etc. Toilets: How can I put this? Terrible and stinking is the best way. There was no toilet roll and when you had finished your business it just flushed out onto the floor below. Hence a terrible smell and if you looked under the ,mobile the bogs were in you could see piles of poo! Food and drink: There was a big selection of stalls to buy food and drink ... more

Advantages Advantages Great bands, great atmosphere

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Overcrowded, horrible toilets

As a Reading native, I always feel obliged to attend the Reading festival, which takes place every year over the August bank holiday. So this year I yet again put aside my creature comforts and set off to the fields of Reading. As one of the UK's most popular summer festivals it attracts some of the most popular bands of the rock genre and is always guaranteed to be a weekend of feisty fun. The festival atmosphere is always great- thousands of people who all share a love of music all gathered together- and the fact that Reading is a festival specifically for rock bands, as opposed to ... more

Advantages Advantages Moshing all day every day

Disadvantages Disadvantages You WILL get wet

I went to the Carling Weekend at the Leeds site last year and this year i bought the first ticket from our local indie music store. I admit, shamefully, to never having been to a festival before but I'll be there this year (24th-26th August) and despite my ever diminishing teenage years, I intend to keep going. I was introduced to a whole new set of bands that I might not have noticed otherwise. For this reason alone it is worth £80 of anyone's money to camp over for the weekend, even if its just to see a showcase of lesser known bands. However, if you're 'hardcore' then there are also a whole ... more

Advantages Advantages A stunning line up most years! Tickets are ussually around 85 pounds!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Food and drick is a rip-off!

well what can i say other than this was absolutly brilleant the best weekend of my life, you have got a large selection of the best bands around, loads of crazy people up for a good time. Weekend tickets this year where £80 which i thought was a damn good deal alought when you get there the price of drinks and food shocks you as drinks where £2 and a tray of chips where £2 so if you go for the weekend you will more than likely be spending around £50 on food and drink!(so it is advisable to take some of you own food with you) A bit of advice to anybody going for the weekend would be to go on ... more

Advantages Advantages Good value for money -100s of bands

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Toilet facilities!!

Reading Rocks!! I was a relative late-comer to festivals, other than one-dayers such as Doningtons' Monsters of Rock, so my first trip to Reading for the full festival including camping several years ago was something of an adventure and I loved it!! 1999 was a particular favourite for me because Blur headlined!! However if the main headliner isn't your cup of tea there are generally three or four different stages available with different bands playing so there is usually something for everyone at any one given time (all in the rock/pop genre mainly). The days' musical entertainment normally ... more

Advantages Advantages good atmosphere, good music

Disadvantages Disadvantages weather can sometimes be bad

I went to the Reading festival last year, and despite being slightly apprehensive and slightly in pain (i had my appendix out the week before), i had a great time. I went with a fairly big group of friends and we all camped together for the 3 days. Unfortunatly, due to my lack of a) money and b) organisational skills, im not going this year, but have fun to those of you who will. What i like most about Reading is the fact you get to see so many bands in such a short time. What i hate most about Reading is the grass after its been raining constantly for 5 hours or so. The bands playing last ... more

Advantages Advantages Great music, Atmosphere etc...

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Pricey

This year's Reading Festival kicked! Contrary to most peoples beliefs (inlcluding my parents) security at Reading is tight, there everywhere, looking after the crowd an making sure nothing that shouldn't happen, happens. There loose on the mild drug law though (cannibis) which I can deal with, aslong as they catch the people dealing hard stuff. They security are there to help, with a good and amusing sense of humor. On the friday, me and my g/f got right up the front for Run DMC (I Don't usually like this sort of stuff, but I Must admit, they were cool) Anyway, the security were handing out ... more

Advantages Advantages You see so many bands for so little money

    Disadvantages Disadvantages the toilets

I have been to the Reading Festival for the last three years. Despite the weather getting progressively worse, the experience has got better and better. For me there are two reasons why you go to a festival; 1. to take part in the camping/festival experience and 2. to see loads of bands. For a little under £100 you get to see at least 30 bands, to me that is great value for money. There are bands you've never heard of, those that are still small time and those that you've been wanting to see for years. I love coming back from a festival and walking into a music shop trying to find the albums ... more

Advantages Advantages atmosphere, bands, fun, great value!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages toilets = smelly!

Ever since the first time i ever heard about Reading Festival i have begged and pleaded with my parents to let me go. They were quite willing but the only condition was that i pay for the ticket and this year was the only year so far that i have actually managed to raise the whole £85!! So i had my ticket, the next step was to bully my parents into letting me camp there for the weekend. That was where they put their foot down and after seeing the actual campsites there, im so glad they did!!! The actual festival was amazing, they had such a great line up with bands on the main stage such as ... more
