Childs Hall at Reading University
Review of Reading University by Pyrokeet

Advantages: see below
Disadvantages: see below

...not about the University of Reading as a whole, just about the hall of residence that I am currently staying in, which is called Childs Hall. I honestly can't remember which Halls I selected on the accommodation form, but I said that I wanted catered hall, and would quite like a sink, so this is where I was placed. The first and most important thing I have to say about Childs is that it is HUGE. Not so much in building size, but in student numbers. ... Read review

Reading Student village
Review of Reading University by Romina

Advantages: Read opinion
Disadvantages: Read opinion

...this isn't a review about Reading uni but there isn’t an option for halls of residence so I had to put it here. Besides I feel this is quite important. The Student village is a hall of residence for students at Reading university, and I was first attracted to it after I had been living in a house in my second year at university, which was a very dire experience indeed. After a whole year of having to split phone, gas, electricity and ... Read review

Tips on living in Reading as a student
Review of Reading University by lpu97kh

Advantages: Great Library, now i'm at a London Uni i miss it so much, my friend even goes back to it all the time
Disadvantages: Remember this is not even a city so city lovers beware

...ethernet connection Accomodation A huge number of Reading students live in the halls. When u have made up your mind make sure u submit the accomodation form early to secure a good hall. Well i guess i'm writing as someone who enjoys the creature comforts & did not fancy any of the prison cells regardless of how good the social life there was. The basic criteria is whether u want catered or non-catered & en-suite or shared bathrooms. Catered ... Read review

mature post-graduate study
Review of Reading University by sociolingo

Advantages: A friendly, supportive environment which is good for mature students
Disadvantages: none

I started an MA at Reading University when I was 40 and, although I had a lot of life experience I had not done a first degree. My work was assessed and I was admitted straight on to an MA course in Education. I really appreciated being given the chance to study at post-graduate level, and felt that my previous experience was accepted and built on. For mature students who did not go to University in their teens, being given a second chance by the ... Read review

The secrets
Review of Reading University by ann

Advantages: all on campus
Disadvantages: expensive

i attended Reading for three years and graduated with a 2.1 degree. i found the course ogranisation very good, the lectures are also willing to help you and fix any problems you have. The campus is very rual basically consisting of many big fields, and a beautiful lake which always has baby birds around exam time. Plus a birdy man with whom many a conversation about the health and well being of the lak can be made. The union is ok and recently done ... Read review

Vetting Reading
Review of Reading University by trisyoungs

Advantages: Location, town, courses
Disadvantages: None I can think of

Just finished a 3-year BSc at Reading, and find myself committing myself to another 3-years of study for a PhD (I must be mad! :-). As other people have said, the campus itself has to be one of the best in the country - after all, how many Universities can claim to have a centralised campus that's built in the middle of a nature reserve, lake and all! The town has it's merits too, now more so because of the new multi-million shopping centre just completed ... Read review

Great experience
Review of Reading University by pigeon1986

Advantages: Green campus, good nightlife, good sports facilities
Disadvantages: none

...completed my second year at Reading University and hopefully this will give an insight into what can be expected at Reading University, of course you make it what it is. I spent my first year in Childs Hall, which I found to be a throughally enjoyable experience. I must admit it is quite dated and the food leaves a lot to be desired. However, it is a very sociable hall, mainly due to the fact that it is the largest at Reading, so don't expect ... Read review

A good experience
Review of Reading University by Harpic

Advantages: Quality of courses, great campus, good student life, access to London
Disadvantages: Can't think of any

...into my third year at Reading Uni and I've enjoyed myself greatly so far. The campus is one of its best features, and everything is contained in two main areas, with Whiteknights being the biggest. Reading would be a good choice for foreign students as it offers the chance to live within a half hour train journey of London without London prices, and students from UK can take advantage of this as well. I'm studying history and politics and I've had ... Read review

Truly international
Review of Reading University by pali

Advantages: a chance to meet students from all over the world
Disadvantages: british weather

...its own campus close to Reading town center. This is gives the advantage of a quiet a centered campus with easy access to the town. The University has a large international student population, giving you a chance to meet and interact with people from a wide range of different backgrounds. Postgrads are somewhat ignored by the student union - but they do organise lots of entertainment during term time. Very good IT services as well as a large well ... Read review

Reading was good
Review of Reading University by SquareFoot

Advantages: Location in relation to London, Nightlife, Staff
Disadvantages: Strange obligatory fees, some of the accomodation

...spent four years studying at Reading prior to my graduation last year and during all that time not once did I have any reason to complain. I was provided with support when I decided to change course and my life was made fairly easy during that time through the excellent guidance of my personal tutor. Hall accomodation is of a mixed standard, although even the poorest ones are habitable in a certain degree of comfort. Socially Reading was excellent ... Read review

Bridges Hall, a home away from home!
Review of Reading University by becks22

Advantages: Very close to campus
Disadvantages: Not very modern!

...about Bridges Hall rather than Reading University in general but it should be helpful to people who are deciding which hall to apply to. Firstly, I came to Bridges Hall in 2002 as a fresher, which is scary enough in itself! The hall is very large with roughly 460 rooms, some catered, some self-catered but don't let the size frighten you! For the first two years of my degree I was in a catered room in Bridges Hall, and overall i think it was ... Read review
