A rant, a pumpkin pie, and an apple strudel!

Advantages: The pie and the strudel recipes!
Disadvantages: I do go on a bit as ever!

§§§Mary introduction/waffle§§§ It was 10th October when the first child came round begging - sorry, I mean 'trick or treating'. Following this I locked the door, and kept it locked (except of course when leaving and entering the house) until it was all over. Since our friends all live in other towns (and would phone before coming round), it's not necessary for us to open the door - it's only ever Jehovah's Witnesses, children wanting my money, or ...
...year for hosing down our wheelie bin). As a child my friends talked of trick or treating. As a child I begged my parents to be allowed to go too, to which they replied "it's begging, of course you're not allowed to". Of course at the time I thought they were just trying to spoil my fun as parents do. Just like when they wouldn't let me get my ears pierced until I was 14 (I pestered them non-stop for 4 years). I got the last laugh from that ending ...

Bread n' butter Pud!

Advantages: Delicious hot or cold and lasts a few days.
Disadvantages: Fatty!

Bread and Butter Pudding Another one of my childhood favourites. My mother would quite happily leave me to make this dish on my own as a child! This pudding is so very easy to make and can be eaten hot or cold, with custard or on its own. I enjoy it on its own! It's very filling and fattening but lovely! I don't actually know the history of this dish but it is excellent for finishing off a loaf of bread that might otherwise be wasted. *Suitable ...
...recommended for people who avoid dairy or eggs. Also, if you have a nut allergy you can leave out almonds if you choose to make the luxury version! #You will need Butter Knife, Bread board, A whisk, a measuring jug, a teaspoon (sprinkle the sugar), A Pyrex or oven proof dish (preferably without a lid) Or if you want smaller, individual portions use small dishes. I find Soufle' dishes are excellent for individual portions. #Ingreedients Sliced ...

A PIE, A CRUMBLE? NO, KRUCHE CIASTO ZE SLIWKAMI.

Advantages: It looks and tastes wonderful!
Disadvantages: Probably will not help your diet or my cholesterol level!

Not my usual style of review this, so if I make a complete lash of it, please forgive! If the above title means nothing to you, and as this is a Polish recipe why should it, then what you are about to bake here is a plum crumble pie. It is many years since I last read a recipe book of any sort! Writing one, having attempted to put this one recipe onto Word is obviously way beyond my capabilities! My wife, however tells me that this is so easy to ...
...is dedicated to jo145, who suggested my publishing it last Sunday, following my casual remark that Adrianna's mother had given her a "plum cake" recipe over the phone only that morning. So for Jo and anyone else interested in trying it, whilst plums are in season here you are. In my best Fanny Craddock typing here goes: To bake this dish we used a 13 inch x 9 inch rectangular baking tray. INGREDIENTS: For the PASTRY you will require: 300g Plain ...

Treat yourself and still loose weight

Advantages: Low Fat so you can still enjoy whilst dieting
Disadvantages: none

...wrote down a couple of recipes that helped me when I have dieted in the past, believe me, I was very successful at loosing weight on the occasions I put my mind to it, I lost 6 stone on both occasions with Weight Watchers and 4 stone on the one occasion I went with Slimming World, unfortunately I am one of natures yo-yo dieters and once I stop dieting the weight creeps back on. Mm Mm And Mmm: Brownies

Advantages: Chocolate
Disadvantages: Walnuts

I have worked longish and hardish at becoming the chocolate brownie queen. I used to be a relationship with a lying scumbag who said that he would do all the cooking in exchange for never having to use the washing machine, which I thought was all fair and equal and agreeable to my feminist self. My idea of an exotic gourmet meal is stew, which was taught to me mere weeks ago. As it turns out, as it does with lying scumbags, the scumbag's idea of ...
...for more hours than I care to remember with daily lectures about how you must always but ALWAYS wash the rice first. Scarred forever, my idea of gourmet is still stew. when the relationship ended, (with lying from various scumbags) I decided to bake. no longer was I relient upon a man and his rice. I was independant, relieved of the relationship and I WOULD BAKE. A fitting start to a new cycle. A rite of passage, if you will. Moving on and moving ...

Grannies Clootie Dumpling

Advantages: really easy to make
Disadvantages: unwrapping the cloth is fiddly and annoying

My gran always used to make a clootie dumpling every sunday for dessert, then she passed the recepie to my mum and now I am making it. Although for some strange reason mines doesn't taste as good as grannies or mums, and I follow the recepie and directions exactly. Gran and mum used to serve the Clootie Dumpling hot with custard or you could eat it cold spread with butter, either way it tastes delicious. A clootie Dumpling is a pudding made up with ...
...a wet floured cloth and boiled in a large saucepan for a few hours. Clootie Dumpling is really simple and easy to make, I find it much easier to make than a sponge cake, because you just mix all the ingredients together with some water and place it in your floured cloth and leave it to simmer for a few hours. INGREDIENTS 6oz self raising flour 1 tsp of cinnamon 1 tsp of mixed spice 1 tsp of ginger 2oz soft brown sugar 11/2 tbsp syrup 1 1/2 ...

Warming Winter Pud from the Microwave

Advantages: Warming, comforting, quick, psychologically beneficial
Disadvantages: High calorie count!

When I was a child there was one dish which I used to BEG my mum to make whenever winter came round. At the time it seemed to me that she only made it once per year (although she denies this and says that it was at least 3 or 4 times). The dish in question was treacle sponge pudding and given that it had to be steamed in a pudding basin I can understand her reluctance to make it: anyone who has ever made a pudding this way will know that it takes ...
...the microwave oven however, this dessert is no longer the arduous ordeal to prepare that it once was. Instead of cooking it in a specially lined basin in a pan of simmering water for 1-2 hours, it can now be whipped up in just 10 minutes, and that includes the cooking time of three minutes! Perfect for those cold days when you get home from work with little energy left for making complicated meals. Ingredients: (serves 3-4 people) - 100g butter ...

Banoffee Pie, Give it a try

Advantages: Tasty
Disadvantages: Make you fat

Banoffee Pie - Simply Perfect. Honestly the hardest bit is spelling it right, the rest is fun. This is a recipe on how to make Banoffee Pie, probably very similar to others you may have seen. If your on a diet... It has bananas in. If you're not then it taste's like heaven. I like to cook (mainly desserts; so I can lick off the spoons etc. :P), in a way ironic as I'm Italian, plus i have a little cookbook in Italian. I first started to cook because ...
...I would spend time with my mum. I have phases where I do one dessert a few times then find something else and it all started when I went to a local health food shop and someone bought me some banoffee pie. Although my Aunt does make the best Banoffee Pie! I had been making 'Chockies' before but I decided I would try and make it. When I next had nothing to do I got the recipe and started making it. Also my mum doesn't like butter that much but for ...

My Life is fullfilled - with CHOCOLATE

Advantages: The world is heavenly
Disadvantages: The bottom gets heavy

I am not a cook, infact I detest cooking. The weekly culinary skills I put to use in the kitchen consist of opening tins and shoving stuff into the mircowave. Mmmm This recipe for an uncooked chocolate dessert is simple, easy, and most of all YUMMY, it must be the best chocolate dessert EVER (and is definitely NOT for children) Chocolate YUM YUM Serves 10 3 oz (75 g) Amoretti biscuits, crushed finely with a rolling pin 1 lb (450 g) dark chocolate ...
...liquid glucose 5 tablespoons rum 1 pint (570 ml) double cream It does freeze as well, but since you can also make it a couple of days in advance, this doesn't really seem necessary, but because it serves 10 (generously) I like to freeze half. • Start off by sprinkling the crushed biscuits all over the base of the tin. • Break the chocolate into sections and put them in a heatproof bowl together with the liquid glucose and the rum (I ...

Melt/stir/chill - easy white chocolate cheesecake

Advantages: Ludicrously easy to make, gorgeous
Disadvantages: Ludicrously easy to eat, full-fat

This is my solution to dinner party puddings. And I really don't do dinner parties, but other people do so you can take this safe in the knowledge that it won't let you down and people will think you 'tried'. It is also fabulous for after having people round to eat - which isn't a dinner party but something entirely less stressful, at least it is in my house.
