Advantages: My Set Lunchtime Menu (Aside From the Duck Salad), My 50th Review
Disadvantages: No Vegetarian Option

Welcome to my 50th review. Having had this discussion with a few of the Ciao members I am lucky to call online friends, I have decided to make good the claim that I can actually cook *grin* So, the review below is what I would have on my reasonably priced lunchtime menu, should I choose to run a restaurant one day. I believe that the whole menu is perfectly reasonably priced at £24 per diner, and for 3 courses, is in the same league as Gordon Ramsay ...
...standard of the cooking is as good, but it is certainly passable and The Blonde does rave about it. It has also been known in the past for me to be hired by friends (either paying for the ingredients and inviting me to eat with them if I cook) or to be hired by friends parents to cook for a dinner party for their friends and colleagues (This is subject to a kitchen inspection and only if I can set the menu and have all of the dietary requirements ...

Squabble and EEEEK

Advantages: Its nice when you dont use vodka....
Disadvantages: You dont get lucky if you do use vodka......

After my last couple of heavy going reviews I thought I might treat you to another installment of Clinton's Cuisine…… Today is last night's tea …….Squabble and Eek….. Shelle and I first made this a couple of years ago whilst holidaying in the lap of luxury…ala Clinton (Cara) van. It was throwing it down (as per usual) and there actually seemed to be a lake outside the caravan door. It was Shelle's turn to go to the shops for provisions, but as ...

So we decided to use what we had in the fridge……… *****INGREDIENTS***** As with most of my cooking I never actually weigh/measure anything so I am just giving you guestimates…….I also never seem capable of cooking for 2 or 4…so feel free to scale down the ingredients as I think I am cooking for the street again…… 8 Chicken Breasts (oops no sorry that's 6…I always get a couple extra for my bra…) 15 salad potatoes ...

Pancake Pleasures!

Advantages: Quick ,Easy, Versatile, Cheap ( depending on the filling!)
Disadvantages: Temptation to eat too many!

...very versatile. Most pancake recipes I have seen over the years are just a mixture consisting of flour, eggs and milk (like a Yorkshire Pudding batter). But some historical explanations of Pancake Day suggest that originally a pancake recipe would have included butter as this was one of the main 'forbidden fruits' over the fasting period and the best ever recipe I have found over the years includes butter so maybe it's the most authentic! I am ...

Preheat the oven to 190C or Gas Mark 5 2. With the pancake laid flat put a little ham, cheese and pineapple down one side , then roll it up from this side. 3. Place all the pancakes in ...

L.A.'s five-point chilli challenge!

Advantages: really tasty, tried & tested for veggies and meat-eaters alike, easy-to-find ingredients
Disadvantages: VERY HOT, if you don't like spicy food this really won't be for you!

...remotely interesting to me. Two, recipes that list copious amounts of unheard-of ingredients that I have never seen on the shelves at Sainsbury’s really bug me (have YOU ever heard of tamari or fermented soy beans? Please enlighten me if you have…and has anybody REALLY got things like rice vinegar in their cupboard ready to add ‘just a dash’ to recipes?) And three, you can write recipes on Ciao for fellow Ciao members to try – and to be honest, these ...

I will, however, arrange them in order of heat level for the less brave who might want to work their way down the list gradually… ~~~ CAUTION! ~~~ BEFORE YOU BEGIN… Some of these involve some ready-made ingredients where L.A.’s cookery skills fall short of the mark, so make sure you ...

" Im feeling hot hot hot " !!!

Disadvantages: Youll be forever asked to make em once everyone knows you can !!

...used in one of the recipes I will give to you in a moment - the Korma. I hate this stuff and so I steer well away from Kormas. Also coconut is actually very fattening and so this is not an ingredient to be used heavily by any dieters who are absorbing all of this information. + Cream Again a high fat ingredient that is only used in the Korma recipe. ~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~ ~~ The making of the base gravy ( the masala ) First off its important to ...

Traditional Welsh Cawl (stew)

Advantages: warming, filling, delicious
Disadvantages: must be eaten by the next day

...senses. *There are many recipes available on-line for Cawl, all with some variations but here is my recipe, the way I have learned since I was little, for a traditional Welsh stew, with Lamb and Leek. #You need: A large stewing saucepan or large "Pyrex" dish that can be heated on a stove. (Preferably with a lid but it's not essential) A ladle. A scooper with holes. A large spoon to stir. Gas or electric hob (or Arga) - doesn't matter! A meat ...
...smaller pot for boiling potatoes. #Ingredients: 1 small Swede. 2 or 3 decent sized Carrots. 1 small Parsnip. 1 medium Onion. 3 large Leeks. (or several Baby Leeks- the taste being sweeter) 1 lamb Stock Cube - "Knorr" is fine. Potatoes - I use "White" as they are versatile. Water. Small sprig of mint. Fresh parsley. A tiny sprinkle of Rosemary. A tiny sprinkle of salt. Thickening granules (or a tiny bit of flour). A small spoon of oil ...

Special CHICKEN BIRYANI ( Eastern Cuisine)

Advantages: Taste of east and tasty as well
Disadvantages: Rich in calorie, Spicy

Here I am again with another recipe, this is one of my favourite. Well I guess some of you must be familiar with this Dish called 'Biryani'. It is quite common here in Manchester especially on the Curry mile. When I first came here I decided to taste it as this dish is quite common in my home and family but unfortunately I was not at all happy with the taste. So any of you who have tasted BIRYANI in any Asian or eastern restaurant, please try this ...

Our Sal's got her Dumplings in a Right Good Stew

Advantages: Tasty, filling, aromatic and "homely"
Disadvantages: Not for vegetarians I'm afraid

Twenty years of southern living can’t quite banish the original Yorkshire tyke in me, and on these cold winter evenings "there’s nowt better than a right good stew for us tea". A couple of my new Ciao mates asked for this recipe after I mentioned the stew in my AAM op. I was about to email it to each of them when I noticed this delish-looking category on the menu in the Ciao Café. Being the mutton-head that I am, I was a bit slow on ...

A Word Before We Start… ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' I’ve always made this in the slo-cooker because I find that the long, low simmering tenderises the meat beautifully. Champion cheesy cottage pie

Advantages: Tasty, you can control what is going in it
Disadvantages: Time taken and mess it makes!

==Cottage Pie== After much deliberation, I've decided to share my cottage pie recipe. My husband loves this dish (they do say the way to a mans heart is through his stomach!) and it is what I usually cook when we have friends over. I will confess to being a lazy cook and I hate peeling and mashing potatoes so I don't make it very often. It's not the healthiest either, with cheese, butter and flour, so it's probably best not to have it too often. ...
...like a special treat when I do cook it, so I can ask for anything I like and he finds it impossible to refuse! ==Ingredients== ===Mince=== 400g lean or extra lean beef mince (beef for cottage pie, lamb for shepherds pie) 1 medium onion (diced) 2-3 Oxo cubes 2-3 tblspoons of Worcestershire Sauce (can add more if you prefer, I usually do!) 2 medium carrots (diced) 2 heaped tblspoons of frozen peas Quater jar of Passatta sauce (sieved tomatoes, ...

Winter draws on

Advantages: Hearty, warming casseroles, posh enough for a dinner party.
Disadvantages: Buying your oven was a waste of money.

The nights are getting darker and there's a definite chill in the air. Salads don't seem half so appealing and there are times when what I really want is a good, old-fashioned casserole. I've got a couple that are posh enough to serve if you've got guests and there's one of them that will delight both vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. We'll start with one that makes a regular appearance on the Magee dining table over the winter months and that's ...
...the best quality sausages that you can buy as the cheaper ones are too fatty and this spoils the taste. Sausage and Mushroom Casserole This serves two people generously or three if they're too polite for their own good. You can easily double up the quantities so long as you have a large enough flame-proof casserole dish. You'll need: 6 Thick Pork Sausages 50 to 75gr of Pancetta cut into small cubes One large onion, thinly sliced 1tsp dried thyme ...

Dinner for Dickheads

Advantages: It's a bit different and your fella gets to make it!
Disadvantages: It's a bit different and your fella gets to make it!

... and Deano after his latest opinion!! I thought I would lend the lads a hand and teach them how to cook, seeing as most of them need to make up for some reason or another (i.e. Lush opinions) and the way to a girl's heart is through her tummy. Actually it's not, it's through the high street to the jewellers but I digress... ...follow. OK, so a roast is a roast right? Sort of, I usually find a different way of doing things and my Sunday dinner is no exception. First thing first you have to have 2 different types of meat, one is simply not good enough, variety is the spice of life! My choice is nearly always the same, Chicken (obviously) and Pork. I am not a 'dark meat' eater really so I rarely have Beef, Lamb is a little too fatty for my tastes and Turkey, well that's ...

Creamy Chicken Forestiere

Advantages: It tastes good and is filling.
Disadvantages: Not so good if you're on a fat free diet.

This is one of the tastiest Italian type ways I know of to cook chicken. It can be quite heavy, what with the cream and butter, but it's great for a special meal and is very satisfying as a main course. Vegetarians could substitute Quorn or Tofu for the Chicken but the sauce is absolutely gorgeous just on it's own. All the alcohol will evaporate so it's just the taste of the wine that enhances the flavour of the meat or quorn. Utensils A Sharp ...

Multo Bene Italiano Pasta

Advantages: Quick, easy and very very cheap to make!
Disadvantages: none. It tastes just wonderful!

I learnt this recipe from a girl in college who ended up being my best friend, and we still reminisce about those lovely dinners! She learnt it from the italian grandmother of the children she was nanny to in a house in Milan the year before we met, and she;d spent the year since she had been shown the recipe perfecting the recipe. So by the time I came to learn it from Emm, there wasn't much tweeking to be done, so this is the recipe in its pure, ...
