Andy Mcnab is getting lazy with his writing

Advantages: Quite full of action
Disadvantages: Same man, same storyline, different place

As you can see from my previous book reviews I have been very lucky in choosing some pretty good reads. But boy was I hugely disappointed in this latest in Andy Mcnabs series of books featuring the indestructible Nick Stone. My opinion When I first seen this copy in my local library I couldn't wait to get it home. But after the 1985 prologue and only four chapters in, I quickly came to realise that this was basically the same storyline, where we ...
...to do, get seriously beaten up lose a good friend but eventually prevails against the evil tyrant who rules from afar. The only difference is the location. Thesis O.K now that I have had my little rant here is the thesis of the book, We first see Nick Stone in 1985 where he is on a mission to rescue some nuns from rebels in deepest Africa, after a while he realises that he has been set up. 21 years later while in Switzerland he find out that ...

Grown up McNab?

Advantages: Same high quality stuff, with an edge of conscience
Disadvantages: Very quick read, strong sometimes unnecessary profanity.

...action, death, profanity and destruction. Recoil delivers all I expected and more. Recoil delivers a high body count as Nick Stone crashed his way through the jungle in Africa. The story line was predictable but gripping, I knew what was coming, but the excitement of McNab's books has never been about what happens, it's always been about how it happens. Recoil provides every gory detail. For all of this book being so similar to the previous books ...
...think about the exploitation being perpetrated in developing countries for my material benefit. I was shocked! McNab has grown up from simple violent trashy thrillers, thrown away after reading, into something more. The child solider issue raised is a problem I already knew about but ambushed from pages of this novel I was touched and affected in a way no news broadcast or magazine article ever could. It's the same old.... but I say, lets have more ...

Andy McNab- Recoil

Advantages: Unmissable read for McNab fans
Disadvantages: Can't put down so I read it too quickly

Another great fictional book from the author of Bravo Two Zero. From start to finish its action packed and keeps you on the edge of your seat because you never know whats going to happen next. I could not put this book down until i finished it and i'm sure I wasn't the only one. Its well written, the characters are so realistic they make you feel like you're part of the team and you can't help but admire Nick Stone (the main character) for his sheer ...
...should add) behind, the story is believable and very credible..in fact so much that you can't help but think that the author has been in similar situations. James Bond seems like a wimp who leads a quiet life compared to Nick Stone. The character makes McNabs SAS experiences and writing skills come to life. When all looks lost and doom is certain you can guarantee McNab will use his expertise to turn the situatation in his favour A must read for ...

vote goes to Chris Ryan

Advantages: good firm storyline
Disadvantages: chock full of military vocab, often hard to follow

I have read many of his books before and found that this book had the same storyline as many of his others. I also found that this book was hard to concentrate on for long periods of times as i read it on oliday. Now before i read this i read a similar style of book by chris Ryan and found it gripping but when it came to this i just wanted to put it down after one page. Some of the events were hard to follow and i found myself re reading large chunks ...
...found there was a large amount of military terms used without a defination of them meaning ifound out what they meant after i had read on a little (list of words in front of chris ryan novels). However saying this if you are a keen fan on military books or just gore in general this should not be a problem. Same if this is your first time reading one of his books.Although i found this book a bit of a struggle i have ot admit i was gripped until i ...

Andy McNab - Recoil

Advantages: Fast Pace Action Thriller, a book that once you start you cannot put down
Disadvantages: Storylines are starting to sound very similar

Since my Dad gave me an Andy McNab book to read I have been an avid fan ever since having read all of his books. This new story 'Recoil' has lots of action right from the beginning going back to the eighties when Nick Stone was a young lad fighting in Africa, then moving swiftly on to the present day finding that he is still with Silke who we met in the last book 'Aggressor' and his plans for the future, but as per normal nothing goes to plan and ...
...meeting up with people from the past and re-evaluating his future. I do love reading Andy McNabs books but feel that Nick Stone is going to have to retire soon, even though I am unable to put the book down once I start reading, the storylines are starting to become very similar and I am sure that Nick Stone is no Captain Scarlett. Personally I think it is time for Andy McNab to look at other routes and bring out some more books for children i.e.: ...

Same old from McNab

Advantages: Fast paced and addictive
Disadvantages: You'll feel that you've read it in one of the earlier books

...People new to McNab's books (where've you been) - will love it though as I'm sure will most of his fans. This 'Nick Stone' series started off with some really outstanding books but I'm sad to say that Recoil doesn't meet his normal high standard of writting. ...
