5 Stars Red and Glossy 01/08/2002

Advantages Advantages Interesting and Varied Articles

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lots and Lots of Advertising

When I was younger I loved women’s glossy magazines like She, Company and Cosmopolitan. They were all about how to get your man, what to do with him when you’d got him and how to make sure he never escaped your clutches. Fling in a few glossy pictures of expensive clothes, make up and jewellery and I was hooked. Now that I’m (slightly!) older and (not much!) wiser I tend only to pick up magazines like these at the hairdressers or buy them for a long train journey or flight. It was for a three hour train journey to London recently that I bought June’s edition of Red from ... more

Advantages Advantages Good, well balanced articles

Disadvantages Disadvantages too many adverts, big and bulky, like browsing through a catalogue, pricey

I'm not a great magazine reader. I usually pick up the free ones at the supermarket or Boots but will occasionally buy one if an article looks interesting or if there is a promotion of some sort. This is precisely why I picked up the August issue of Red magazine. I'd spotted on the Money Saving Expert website that they were giving away a small tube of Neal's Yard Orange Flower moisturiser. As this alone retails for £7.00 and the magazine was £3.60 I would be quids in so I decided to buy a copy when I was in Tesco's. My first impression of the magazine was that it was incredibly bulky. This ... more

Advantages Advantages Interesting articles that women want to read

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I have been reading Red magazine since March when it was recommended to me by a friend. She is a bit older than me and already married with children, where as I am not. I thought it would be a bit out of my age range, but I bought it anyway and really enjoyed it. I couldn't put it down. Each month there is a celebrity interview, and this is not like the normal celeb interview you find, but it is conducted in a relaxed environment and the write up is about 2 or three pages long. They have resident writers each moth writing about topics that many women can relate to. One writer is Rosie Green ... more

Advantages Advantages new and glossy with realistic features

Disadvantages Disadvantages too many ads as usual

Although this mag has been going for a few months now, it is nice to get a new angle on things. I'm glad to see that the magazine editors are realising that there was a gap in the market for glossys. You either had expensive mags for those who are or would like to be seen as high flying, designer buying, it girls or those who are on benefits! Well i think Red has (along with some other new ones)filled the whole for us normal girls. The price is average..£2.80 and the level of journalism is good. Yes there is still too much advertising, they all seem to do that..but the articles, advice and ... more

    Advantages Advantages Lots of advice

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too many affordable buys are given making it difficult for shopaholics to chose from!

Red magazine is THE read in my opinion for a more sophisticated read. Articles are not only more relevant to today but also aims at real woman, and their hectic lifestyles! Food and nutrition, always a must read - always has the most up to date ideas of healthy living and the way in which you can incorporate this into your life. These writers know their stuff....probably living hectic lives they realize we can't all spend 5 days a week working out and living off vegetables or the latest liquid diet! With the latest best buys, and buys often for under £20 - thats right, they managed to find ... more

1 Star RED (or bed) 04/10/2003
    User doesn't recommend the product

    Advantages Advantages cost

Disadvantages Disadvantages too thin, not enough articles etc

I saw red magazine and i thought it looked good , i saw the price and it looked even better (£2.80)so decided to buy it. I was reading through it whilst i was in bed and got through the magazine in literally 40-50 minutes. I normally spend ages reading my magazines as there is a lot to read. I did notice that the magazine was abit on the thin side before i bought it but i thought it's quality not quantity . This had neither. There was alot of ads in the magazine but thats the case in every magazine, it's just that there wasn't enough articles for me or much on beauty. I normally save my ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cost

Disadvantages Disadvantages too many adverts, crap articles, thin magazine

This is the first time I purchased this magazine in a long time as I forgot that it was still available. After purchasing this what a disappointment it was. I did not like the style of this magazine as I prefer to learn more about cosmetics e.g new on the market and ones which are great in magazines as I cannot get enough of them I am afraid. This magazine was very thin in comparison to other magazines and I had finished reading it in an hour which is not good.I feel that even the free magazines are worth more than this. I will not purchase this magazine ever, unfortunately as it is not for me ... more
