Clio 1.2 RN 3 door (1998)

Advantages: Agile, Cheap to run, cmofortable to drive for small car
Disadvantages: A little light to drive

After buying an old VW Polo on EBAY that I had to scrap my wife and eye decided that we would look for a car for her to drive that would be reliable and easy to repair should the need arise. After much debate we found her a little T reg Clio with 52,000 miles on the clock. One of the prerequisites of buying a replacement was that I could fit in it and be able to drive it comfortably. I am 6ft 3" and need to be able to drive it once or twice a week. ...
...the car was the general quality of it bearing in mind it was made back in 98. Once you get over the fact that it is gold the car grows on you. Whilst these cars come in a multitude of colours we though a gold one would be different and uncommon. Alas, now that we have it there are at least three in the same area. Why does that always happen….. EXTERIOR The MK2 Clio changed quite a bit from the MK1. The general looks of the car have been brought ...

Oasis not just a band and a drink you know!

Advantages: its a car
Disadvantages: see review

Well my poor old Micra has been replaced, as yet she retains her space on the drive and in my affections but she is no longer my mode of transportation, that honour now falls to a P reg Clio. No less scruffy looking than the Micra it cost me less to buy, and hopefully will last me as well over thenext 12 months as she did before it. The model I have is the 1.2, 3 door Oasis. It has in common with the Micra that it has a sunroof which is by far my ...
...expensive and silly thing to have (unless of course you suffer from asthma or similar due to traffic fumes). It used to have remote locking but at some point in its history the mechanism which operates this has been broken and the cost to repair it is too great to make it worth while. The original radio/ cassette has been replaced by a CD player which is a luxury I'm still getting used to and will save me a fortune in MP3 batteries. It still uses ...

...replacement. I had hired a Renault Clio for the month so I had decided that perhaps this just might be the car, off to the showroom and have a look… There is just something about a car salesman that intimidates me, it's just the fact that every single car he shows you is flawless. I find that worrying and after looking at about seven different cars I was still deep in thought. Then over in a corner I spotted her, just sitting there gleaming but ...
...Renault Clio 1.2, red in colour with only 43,000 miles on the clock. I gave her a long inpection, running my eyes up and down every single part of her slinky body. She was perfect in looks but did she have the personality to be part of my life for a few years, a test drive would determine that….She was a three door but that didn't bother me as my Fiesta was the same and that £2995 figure was looking better by the minute…….. The Clio is certainly ...

Advantages: Packed with extras (great value), 3 year warranty and AA breakdown cover, Good looks inside and out
Disadvantages: Suspension is rough on bumpy roads, too much road noise at over 50mph

"New Shape" Renault Clio 1.2 16v Dynamique, first launched April 2001 ------------------------- UPDATE APPEARS AT THE BOTTOM ------------------------- I decided to buy a new car in September 2001, after having saved up. I was initially looking for something in the region of £7000, but ended up spending a little more. I wouldn't normally buy a car from new, as we all know about the huge drop in value as soon as you drive out of the showroom. However ...
...warranties. Secondly, many manufacturers like Renault offer extra incentives such as 3 years AA cover, and one year's free insurance. A new car also gives you the peace of mind of knowing that it hasn't been clocked, damaged in an accident, or just abused by its previous owner who may have hammered the engine (and believe me, reputable dealers DO sell dodgy used cars because it's happened to me in the past). Also, I have to say that I was excited ...

...Papa to get her a Renault Clio. Renault are not renowned as the sexiest of car manufacturers and, in the past have suffered from the stigma that was born out of cars such as the Renault 5, disgustingly unreliable and certainly not going to improve one's image. Let’s go back to May 2001. I had been looking to replace my ageing metro for some time and decided at quite an early stage that I would go for a new car. I had the cash, it was burning ...
...absolutely abysmal ride and the Renault Clio for its undeniably good breeding. This was from a crowd comprising the above two cars, the Peugeot 106 & 206, Skoda Felicia, Rover 200, Vauxhall Corsa, Toyota Yaris, VW Lupo and Polo, Citroen Saxo and the Fiat Punto - I didn't skimp on test drives! As I was not too concerned with engine size I tended to go for the smallest in class and thus ended up test driving the 1.2 Clio Grande. The Grande appealed ...

...to make. I went to Renault West London to have a test drive of one. The test drive went rather well and it was just like my mum’s model. I spoke to the guy and told him I was interested. My only problem was the price tag. There was no way I could afford it. Renault made me a deal. They said that they would slice £2000 off the price tag if I was ok with a year old Clio that had only ever been used for test drives. My uncle looked over the paperwork ...
...it. This was at a Renault garage mind you. I drove off thinking the car was now ok. It was roughly a week or so later that I said thank you via the hazard lights and again it was stuck in on mode. I took it that day back to the garage and they said it was possibly a bigger problem such as something to do with the wiring and thus I should take it to the bigger Renault garage. I did take it there but told them I didn’t think it was wiring as when I ...

52reg Clio 1.2

Advantages: Spacious on the inside and cheap to run
Disadvantages: jumpy clutch

This is my first car and i am very impressed. Having learnt to drive in a Clio and liking it a lot, i thought it would be ideal for my first car. However, mine drives totally different from the one i learnt it, but both cars are a lovely, smooth ride and it is a great choice for a first car. 52 reg INSURANCE&TAX This car has cheap insurance, especially for first time drivers. It is in a low insurance band and therefore i would highly recommend ...
...tax is also cheap, currently i pay £66 for 6 months which considering the credit crunch, it is not too bad. I have found this a cheap car to run, but it doesnt look cheap and it definately doesnt feel cheap to drive. PETROL CONSUMPTION With this car being a 1.2, it is really good for fuel economy. It costs roughly £45 to fill up my tank and it lasts quite a while, and i get a really good amount of miles from a full tank (wont quote how many as ...

...picked it up from Sunwin Renault in Halifax, West Yorkshire. After deciding I was buying a New car as oppose to a Second hand one I went straight for the Clio, mainly for the looks but partly because the reviews of them were fairly good. I took a 1.2Ltr for a Test drive and it handled and responded like a dream, compared to my old H reg escort. So, from the excitement of the test drive I ordered one. Anyway, on the day that I picked it up everything ...

After taking it back to Sunwin, they ordered me a new indicator switch i believe, which is a good job as within the next 2 days the problem was starting to affect the steering as it was sticking a little bit in the position that should be cancelling the indicator. Dont worry, this wasn't life threatening but annoyed me as my new car already had a fault. ...

...money. I was recommended the Renault Clio, which I have always liked anyway. I went to a used car dealer who had a number of Clio's and he sounded trustworthy enough and said that they always tend to pass their MOT's fine and don't have a lot of major problems with them. I paid and was soon out on the road. For my age group of younger drivers I was still not too bad with the Clio I got insurance for about £850 a year which to older drivers sounds ...
...£1300 elsewhere this was relatively good. I got my car taxed and it was soon good to go. The colour range of Clio's is quite good they do your typical black, silver but they do gold's, teal, ice blue you name it but I stuck for a red one because I notice too many silver cars nowadays and wanted to be a bit more different. At first I found the car spacious from my last model but it's big enough inside and very comfortable for long distance journeys. ...

Renault Clio 1.2 (P Reg)

Disadvantages: Some flimsy minor interior parts, Slightly dated look.

As a 19 year old student, who had finally had to scrap his 1995 Astra Merit due to it suffering evry problem under the sun from repeated fuel oxygen probe failures to total EMS failures, I had to take any car I could find that I could afford with my part time wages to get me back and forth from Uni. That makes it all the more lucky that I stumbled upon my P reg 1.2 Clio. Used, of course, with 78,000 on the clock and a £750 price tag. After another ...

...I am accustomed to Renault cars and my own car is a Renault Twingo. It is in the garage and I have been given the Renault Clio 1.2 as a car to use whilst mine is in for repair. I really do have strong views on this car, and thought that I should write an opinion because it will help someone make the right decision. This car is a 1.2 the same as the Twingo, and therefore I feel that its driveability should be similar. It is economical the same as ...

Compared with the Twingo, the acceleration comes nowhere near what I would expect of a car ...

...own! I bought my Renault Clio Grande (1.2) brand spanking new in about April 2000, which makes it getting on for 2 1/2 years old. It cost me £7800 all told, as they were offering £500 cash back at the time. I did have to wait a couple of months before I got to see this money though, as it had to come from some central Renault office rather than the dealer I bought it from. I paid a little extra to get ABS, which wasn't standard at the time (I don't ...

I think it is an excellent addition to the car's controls as it is so easy to use whilst not taking a hand off the wheel or having to look away from the road. I really miss it when I drive other cars without one. The sound is very clear too, only starting to distort the bass when ...

...interior also looks very sophisticated. Renault isn’t trying to make this car look strange or wacky, they are just sticking to simple designs that people know and like. The boot space is ample for a weekly shop at Tesco with room to spare for other bits and pieces. Even though the rear seats collapse, it isn’t really spacious enough for a shop at MFI, but the car isn’t a Volvo so anyone buying this car shouldn’t expect too much in terms of space. ...

The only problems that I have had or found with this car was that when I bought it second hand from an authorised Renault dealer I had trouble getting it into 1st and 2nd gears. My dealer sorted this out promptly with no problems. Another problem was that the sunroof squeaked when driving. As I’m sure you can imagine this was very annoying and off-putting. I found ...
