Great Value Small Family Diesel Car

AdvantagesVery spacious, great fuel economy.

DisadvantagesNot everybody likes the astetics.

"...old second-hand 5 doors black Renault Megane 1.5 Hatchback and it is the best car that I had to date. In my oppinion the range is very well priced and offers great value for money. New models start at £14000 however you can pick up a second hand car for a very reasonable price of approx £4500 for a 3-4 years old and £1500 for a 6-7 years old. The 1.5 diesel engine is very economical, in city setting it ususally works out 50-55 miles per gallon ..." Read review

modern, economical and nippy

Advantages65MPG +, compartments, very cheap tax and insurance

Disadvantageskeycards can become damaged and lots of electricals to potentially fail

"I have always been a diesel car owner because I am no mug and don't want to be paying 60 quid a week topping up my tank. This car can easily achieve 60mpg and i've even had it reading up at its maximum 99.9mpg on a few occassions. On the average motorway journey it will average out at between 65 and 70 mpg. I live in rural lincolnshire in a small town mostly using the car to get into and around town and to nearby villages usually within ten miles ..." Read review

Megane 1.5 dci (106 bhp) Sports Hatch Dynamique

AdvantagesFuel Economy, high spec interior, gorgeous

Disadvantagesnone so far

"...housed in a new grill, Renault badge at back Interior- Much nicer styling including new dials white/blue dash lighting soft touch above dials Driving - although my previous car had a smaller petrol engine I cannot believe how much smoother and more nippy this car is, it is a pleasure to drive and the fuel consumption is fantastic already (diesels don't reach optimum consumption for about 4000 miles) I am getting about 150 miles more for a ..." Megane 1.5dci Dynamique (80)

AdvantagesEconomy, reliability, comfort

Disadvantagessmall boot

"I've owned a 1.5DCI Dynamique from new (2004) and have covered 63,000 miles. Had a couple of minor things fixed under warranty, door handle paint and steering column knock(?), despite not buying the car from a Main Dealer they honoured warranty repairs. Cheap Road Tax, Car Insurance, comfortable, lots of toys and economical. The only unusual fault was an intermittent STOP / OIL indication, which lasted a day or two - suspected wet electrics when the ..." Read review

To much technology, not enough testing

AdvantagesFeatures, driving position, value

DisadvantagesReliability, customer service

"I owned one of these from new for 6 months at the end of 2003. In that 6 month period I actually had it for 5 months, the other month it spent in the garage over 6 different times. I bought the car for its looks and for the various gadgets you get as standard. Having never owned one before I was unaware of the full features thus never knew how they should all work. It turned out that the keyless entry was supposed to open the door when you hands ..." Read review

Renault Megane Oasis 1.5 dCi (86)

AdvantagesFuel economy

DisadvantagesAutomatic wipers

"I am currently leasing a Megane Oasis, through an employee deal at work (Lookers in Northern Ireland [Charles Hurst Lt.d]). The Oasis is really a base trim, with some extras from the higher models. You get a panoramic sun roof and air con., electrically folding, colour coded door mirros, keyless car (just have the key in your pocket and it unlocks when you touch the handle, etc.) Although the key being a square credit card shape has its disadvantages ..." a balanced argument

Advantageseconmical, looks cool, very comfy

Disadvantagesturbo lag

"...great deal of innovative technologies Renault launched around 2001-2002; the Renault Card keyless ignition system, standard on the Megane II, was a first in this class and has since been widely adopted. Similarly, the option of a panoramic glass sunroof is another area in which Renault led where others followed. RenaultSport (RS) versions of the 3-door and 5-door hatchbacks were introduced, equipped with a turbocharged petrol 2.0 L 16v engine producing ..." Read review

DisadvantagesNone yet...

"...of equipment as standard and Renault will do a deal if you push them - find one of the dealers owned by Renault - Renault Croydon is one - they give you the deal to approach your local delaer with!! Far better deals on these than Focus or Astra - don't let them get away with it... ..." Read review

Megane 1.5dci Dynamique

AdvantagesJust brilliant, 60+ MPG

DisadvantagesGet wet when opening boot

"I bought this car for my wife on a personal car lease. We are only paying £180 per month for a year with no deposit. It is about £1500 cheaper in the first year than Renault. It is a very good and practical car. Fantastic fuel consumption. On a careful run you can easily get 50-60 MPG. A tank of diesel is lasting my wife at least a month. The is plenty of space in the car with loads of storage. The CD player is very good as too is the ..." Read review

stylish but very unreliable

Advantagesstyle, cool electronics but slightly gimmicky

Disadvantagesreliability

"I owned a 2005 Renault megane DCI (The one with the big derrière) for roughly a year and a half. I was first attracted to it because of its stylish looks with and cool electrics however this was a decision I lived to regret. The curvaceous shape certainly looks good and it comes with an array of cool electric gizmos which sets this car out from the crowd such as automatic windscreen wipers and lights, start button and key card technology and the ..." Advantagesits dCi engine is one of very best in class. very low Co2 emission. great mileage

Disadvantagesa bit less features

"renault cars are known wildly for their thrilling driving experience with utmost driver safety precautions that come as standard in most Renault cars. this particular 1.5ltr dCi megane is extremely good value foe money as i found out. in my opinion this automobile has very decent road handling with a neat steering. the grip at the corners is phenomenal. it gives you that extra confidence to go fast...! rear seats are extremely comfortable with ..."
