    Advantages Advantages Looks, handling, individuality

Disadvantages Disadvantages space (but you are buying a coupe!)

The car: MEGANE COUPE 1999 1.6 16V Sports Alize phase 2 I have had the car for 4-5 years now and guess I can judge how well the Megane Coupe has faired for me. Many reviews here don't seem to distinguise whether it is the phase 1 or phase 2 models. Phase 1 models are usually 8V whereas the phase 2 models are 16V and have a slightly different front and back styling. The picture shown above is of a phase 2 car and is the hatchback version NOT the coupe! Here I review my car which is the phase 2 Coupe model. In the review I'll talk about ownership and possible problems...including those which I ... more

Advantages Advantages Good looking, economical and fun, just like me!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Cramped, plasticy interior, bit sluggish

How predictable? My girlfriend and I purchased a Renault Megane 1.6e Coupe several years ago, and I must admit to hogging it most of the time. Our other car (a Saab) is as economical as wacking up the central heating then leaving all the windows open. ** ON THE OUTSIDE ** Well, it looks the part, although it doesn't have the front fog lights that the 2.0 model benefits from. It's as curvy as Vanessa Feltz standing in front of one of those wobbly mirrors you get at the funfairs, yet some how refined and almost intelligent looking. I'd compare it to a labrador puppy, waiting eagerly to go for a ... more

Advantages Advantages purchase price, drivability, looks

Disadvantages Disadvantages too soon to tell

I riecently traded up from an Nreg MGF (see my review there). The soft top was no longer practicle and I wanted a nice looking coupe with a bit more space. I origionally considered an Astra Coupe, but they were out of my price range and I was also considering depreciation. I wasn't getting anywhere near the price I wanted for the MGF and it was going to cost alot to trade in - I luckly found an MG/Rover garage where I got a realy good deal. My advise when part xing - look for a garage that sells your car and see what they have in stock first. Anyways - onto the Coupe. Looks Well Renault did a ... more

Advantages Advantages Great engine, good looks, high spec, reliable

Disadvantages Disadvantages lacklustre handling, harsh ride, bland interior

I bought my W-reg Renault Megane Coupe 1.6 Sport Alize January 2007. I paid nearly £3000 for this car including the value of my old Citroen AX which I part-exchanged in as part of the deal. I had been looking for this model for some time and was relieved to finally purchase one from a local garage. I bought it with 86000 miles on the clock. It now has 99000. STYLING - Initially one the main reasons I started looking for the coupe variant of the megane was the styling. Although it is starting to show its age now compared to newer models on the market, the car is still an attractive shape. My ... more

Advantages Advantages Looks fantastic and great to drive.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Limited space in the back.

The Car It's a black renault megane coupe dynamique+ 1.6 51reg. I used to have a Renault Clio 1.4RT which I loved, but the coupe was the only car that I would exchange it for (it had to be black). Exterior It looks fantastic, sleek and sexy - the dynamique+ model has a sunroof fitted as standard as well as having air conditioning. It has front fog lights which add to the classy look the car has. It's black which does show up the dirt but it's such a nice looking car that you take pride in and actually want to keep it clean and shiny! Interior There is plenty of room in the front with the seats ... more

Overall this is a great car. I drive 100 miles a day to and from work and this little car has not failed me so far. I own an X registration model (2000) and have done nearly 18k miles in it. I have only had minor problems with the car to date including a rear brake light bulb failure, dipped halogen headlight bulb failure, front washer jet failure and a puncture. DEALER -------------- I bought this car from the dealer and they were surprisingly helpful. He offered me free car mats, £10 worth of petrol and £500+ of the sale price. In the end though I didn't quite get the £10 worth of petrol ... more

I don't personally own one of these, however my sister owns one. It is a bright red one and it has a quality set of alloys and a nice little boot spoiler as standard. My sister went to Australia for a year and said I could borrow her car for that time and I agreed, this was the first time that I had driven it and I nearly died when I put my foot down because it went like hell. First of all I will talk about the exterior , it is a great shape and looks really aerodynamic and sporty. I can't point out a single square bit on the car. It came with a really nice set of 5 spoke alloy wheels and a ... more

Advantages Advantages Everyone looks at you

Disadvantages Disadvantages They've stopped building it!

Way back when, I was an IT sales lady - I worked for some of the countries best known companies, had excellent benefits, great commission plans, and a company car. The company car was ditched when I realised just HOW much it was costing me in tax per year, and I decided instead to get the allowance (PAYE - much better!). Having so much money per month to burn on a car I didn't know which way to turn.. all the cars that you're 'supposed' to have as a salesperson didn't appeal. The one car I had long looked at and envied the driver was the Megane Coupe. What a dream - sleek lines, sexy shape and ... more

Advantages Advantages Great car, chicks love it

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Cars cost money

I bought a Renault Megane Coupe some three years ago. Never had a problem with it. I fell in love with the car the day I saw it. There is was sitting on the fore court calling me over. As soon as I sat in it, I knew this was going to be a long love affair. I admit it is a little cramped, but when theres only you in the car, who cares. It’s not supposed to be a family car. As for boot space, well again, not a lot of room, but I can fit my golf clubs in the back, so I’m happy. If you can’t fit all your luggage in, leave your wife/girlfriend at home. The performance of the car ... more

Thank god I'v finally got rid of this car.I owned a 2001 1.6 Sport Alize Coupe and had nothing but problems with it. Firstly the coil packs went which is a common problem on all renaults. It needed both drive shafts replacing after only 40,000 miles. Needed a new gearbox after 46,000. Near side suspension collapsed whilst taking a roundabout nearly causing a very serious accident. When this car worked it was a fairly good car. Ride was comfortable, engine was nippy but by no means fast and fuel consumption used to be around 40 - 45 mpg. But this car has put me off Renaults for life. It has ... more
