Disadvantages Disadvantages Driving position, immobiliser, noisy engine

What can be said about the Renault Scenic that hasn't already been said? Originally called the Renault Megane Scenic and based on the hatchback derivative's chassis, the Scenic quickly became a popular choice for family users and wheelchair-bound mobility customers, offering vast space and comfort for a rock-bottom price. As its popularity grew, Renault capitalised on this and soon dropped the Megane moniker from the name, wishing to give the little people carrier an identity of its own. So when children came along and the load space of the only car we had - a Lexus IS200 - proved to be too ... more

Advantages Advantages luxurious, good looks, fast.

Disadvantages Disadvantages squeaky suspension, bad boot button design

My dad first bought this car for just under £8,000 and ever since the first day my dad drove it off the forecourt, the whole family loved it. We had a late, 2001,top of the range, 2.0 privelege+ model, which i recommend highly for anyone looking at renault scenics. It looked good on the outside: fog lamps, colour-co-ordinated bumpers, alloys, twin sunroof, rear tinted windows. it was even better on the inside: half-leather, fold-out food trays, under feet storge, 6 disc CD autochanger, air and climate conditioning and the standard stereo system was amazingly good, an 8 speaker Kenwood sound ... more

Advantages Advantages Plenty of room for a family with leggy teenagers

Disadvantages Disadvantages Needs a large parking space

I have owned my Renault Scenic since last March. I bought it second hand from a dealer for £6999 for an R Reg with 48,000 miles on it and full service history and I am very happy indeed with it. The Scenic is often described an MPV however I think of it as just a large car, My husbands Ford Galaxy is an MPV My original plan was to buy a sporty little number and did test drive quite a few and then my husband suggested the Renault Scenic as he thought it was far more practical. I was not easily swayed but we took it out for a drive and I was plesantly surprised by the amount of poke it had, even ... more

Advantages Advantages Price, ride qualities for passengers

Disadvantages Disadvantages Centre head rest in rear can obstruct view

This car is for someone who wants the feel of a people carrier (ie the extra space) but doesn't want to go the whole hog and by a very expensive full MPV. The Scenic is a very competetivly priced car and reasonablly cheap to run (around 40mpg, which is quite good for a 2.0 litre engine). The main benifit of this car is as I have already said is the space. It can quite easily carry a full five adults in a reasonable amount of comfort. On the higher models all the mod cons are included eg. CD player/changer, Air con, leather interior, etc which all add to the comfort of the passengers. There is ... more

Advantages Advantages space, ease of belting in children

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Service issues

A very practical vehicle with excellent driving position. Our family now own 3 including the new model. Consumption for the large engine has also been higher than expected (up to 40 mpg)but there have been some minor faults relating to oil loss around 30,000 miles on both of the earlier cars. In both cases Renault were very helpful and sorted the problems within the warranty. One of the cars has recently suffered gearbox problems at 65,000 miles. Renault advising that i need s anew gearbox at £2000 cost. They haven't always been right in the past and the problem sounds very similar to a BMW ... more

Advantages Advantages Comfortable, quiet, spacious, well thought out design

Disadvantages Disadvantages A bit thirsty, difficult to see corners when manoevering

Yes the tray-tables really were one of the reasons why I chose this car over the others in this class - I mean if you plan on driving on a long journey with two restless kids, you have to make sure they are going to have space to play all the games they need to... I needed to get a car that was going to function, not only as family transport for the Dad's Taxi Service, but also for our trips to my Mum-in-Law in Italy. It also needed to be able to take a lot of computer equipment around London for my business, and to take an assortment of awkwardly shaped musical instruments to gigs for that ... more
