The T- virus is back!

Advantages: excellent story line, fun to play, great graphics and very challenging
Disadvantages: extras are not really worth the effort or time!

Game title: Resident evil 2 Certificate: 15 Genre: survival horror/puzzle adventure Published by: virgin interactive Made by: Capcom Players: 1 Memory card usage: 1 block After writing previous reviews on the resident evil saga, I felt that I would step back in time; to where it all started to unfold. Resident evil 2 is the first two disk resident evil game to be realised. Resident evil 2 hit the shelves on the 29th of January 1998, and is ...
...were later sold to Eidos. Resident evil 2 is actually the third instalment of the series if you include the directors cut of the first game. Resident evil 2 is set in racoon city itself and confusingly enough is set after the third game in the series. Resident evil 2 was the first game I played in the series. I picked up the basic story line to the first game through the brief F.M.V at the start of the game. The story line was easy to pick up and ...

The Resident's Bite Back

Advantages: Looked fabulous in it's day, superb gameplay, good long-term appeal, very good soundtrack
Disadvantages: Backtracking can become a chore

...that their low-budget horror game Resident Evil would receive. Released in 1996, it was a hit to match the popularity of the mighty Street Fighter 2, and would spawn a number of spin off's and sequels in the coming years. The first sequel was always going to be the hardest though. By 1997, the developers were busy working on Resident Evil 2, with a hive of anticipation growing by the day as new screenshots were filtered to the press. But then the ...
...drawing board. Eventually, an all-new Resident Evil 2 would arrive around 2 years after the original and, in Japan, become the fastest selling game of all time. But in terms of quality, could it live up to the first game? Resident Evil 2 is a third-person survival-horror adventure, based in the ridiculously-named Racoon City, USA. The story follows two characters, rookie cop Leon Kennedy and biker-chick Claire Redfield. Leon is patrolling the city ...

Resident Evil 2, Blow off those heads.

Advantages: Has good Graphics, and gameplay is good. Scary on some parts!
Disadvantages: Can get really fustrating at times, but you get there in the end!

...you are familiar with the Resident Evil games, then you would know what the whole plot is about, and I gotta agree, it has been well planned! But for those who don't, here's a quick summary. Well, you start off with Resident Evil 1 (Duh!), and you and your team, S.T.A.R.S have been sent to investigate on this suspicious seeing of zombies somehow roaming around in the woods and weird areas. Well they are told, to go into this large mansion, where ...
...other small enemies. The Resident Evil games, overall is very simple to control. The good thing about it aswell, is that although the menu screen when you select it on all three Resident Evil's, are different, they are similar to use. You can get to some points in the game where you can do stuff with items, where you have to think carefully, of what needs to be done for which items, i.e. combining items. This is a little tip aswell for all the Resident ...

Umbrella Made the Mistake again....

Advantages: Great graphics, gameplay, Sound effects, lighting, Story line, Great everything
Disadvantages: None except it can be a bit tedious running back and forth

...the great glory, which was Resident Evil and Resident Evil Directors cut. Resident evil 2 is basically the story of a City named "Racoon City" which gets infected by the G-Virus, which was produced by the same people who made the T-virus in Resident Evil 1, Umbrella. Both the G and T virus were designed to create differential humans and animals, basically making everything it infected eventually into a superior self or a zombie of some kind. In ...
...whole mansion was infected. In Resident Evil 2 Umbrella had continued research on the virus (for some strange reason? Have they no humanity?) and produced the G-Virus which was designed specifically to create a super human, able to replicate simply and quickly. Unfortunally the creator (of whom I have forgotten the name) was infected and became that super Human, and along the way the rest of Racoon city was infected by the G-virus, turning the ...

Survival horror at it's very best - the definitive Resident Evil

Advantages: Great graphics, great gameplay, intriguing story
Disadvantages: None, really

Development of Resident Evil 2 began shortly after it became obvious that its predecessor was going to be a massive success. It was originally scheduled to be released in early 1997, but after reviewing an almost complete version of the game, Capcom decided they didn't like what they saw. Rather than rush out an inferior game like so many others would have done, they instead opted to scrap it, effectively starting again from scratch. Resi 2 subsequently ...
...Well, they needn't have been. Resident Evil 2 rocked. It rocked back in 1998, and it still rocks today. Much like James Cameron's Aliens, Resident Evil 2 took the basic premise of its predecessor, kept the stuff that worked, threw away the stuff that didn't, and chucked in bucketloads more action for good measure. Whereas Resident Evil was a slow-paced survival horror, relying as much on subtle tension as gunplay, its sequel is a balls-to-the wall ...

A N64 review of a PSX game

Advantages: Film-style, great sound, great FMV, twisting story
Disadvantages: not long enough by far

Well.... I bought this game on Saturday, and it was finished by that evening. I was very dissapointed, because the game (while it lasted) was extremely good, right up there with the Zeldas and Half-Lifes if this world. The set-pieces were timed perfectly and were scarieer than any other game I have played. The storyline is film-quality, despite the cheesey voice acting. In fact, the game is similer to films in many ways. It is short, has a strong ...
...George Romero flick, but with you as the star character. The story pushes you to get further on in the game, as you can always sense that a twist is just around the corner. Well, thats if there isn't a crowd of zombies there instead. The thing that amazes me about this game, however, is the set-pieces. You will approach zombies munching on a dead corpse, have dogs burst out of kennals next to you, and have things fly through windows at you. There ...

Return of the groooaannns

Advantages: Builds on successful RE formula
Disadvantages: Same as original with same flaws

Resident Evil 2 is a very scary game, which might sound ridiculous to those who have never played a game in this genre. (dubbed "Survival Horror") The graphics are good, although the backgrounds are pre-rendered with the 3D characters "on-top", but it works a lot better than it might sound. You'll instantly enjoy this if you like zombie movies, particularly George Romero's. However, one problem I've had with the Resident Evil series is the tedious ...

Getting better...

Advantages: Bigger and more challenging
Disadvantages: Puzzles still too easy

Resident Evil 2 improves on its predecessor in almost all departments. It is a much larger game, and there is also a choice of scenarios to play, which although quite similar to eachother are different enough to make them worthwhile. There is plenty of atmosphere, just like the original, and enough shocks to make even a hardened gamer jump out of their skin. Again the visuals are impressive, perhaps more so, and there are even more zombies to blast ...
...why bother to have them at all? The violence and general theme of the Resident Evil series means that it is aimed at older children and adults, but this just isn't reflected in the complexity of the puzzles. In general though, this is a definite improvement, and well worth trying. ...

The Sequel Betters the Original

Advantages: Darker, Bigger, Better, More Intelligent
Disadvantages: The same dull door opening graphics

This is fantastic, there's no other way to say it. It's bigger than the first game, it is spookier than the first game, in fact there were points in the game where I nearly jumped through the ceiling! There is a lot more plot to this, which I found to be a most addictive part of the game, above the usual I'll switch off in 5 minutes after I see what's behind that door. With the two characters to play, each having different stories, the game is ...

Resident 2

Advantages: Great scary atmosphere, challenging puzzles
Disadvantages: Graphics at times

...value game in my opinion. Resident Evil 2 is an really challenging and frightening game which will really send a shiver up your spine, in Resident Evil 2 you have to solve many puzzles to progress towards getting out of the city. There are two discs to the game and you can play as either Leon or Claire. The game is set in a town in the USA which has been invaded by zombies, Both Claire and Leon are unaware of the zombies in the town of Raccoon ...
...- you play either Leon or Claire in this terrifying game as they both try to fight their way past all the zombies and out of Raccoon City for good. The Graphics in the game are really good but the downside to the graphics is that when you go to climb stairs your character disappears and you just see a picture of some steps. The music on the game combines with the storyline to create a chilling experience for the player. Most things in this game ...

Resident Evil 2 Walkthrough For Existing Owners

Advantages: Terrifying Gameplay
Disadvantages: Too Hard, too long (Too scary???)

Resident evil 2 is a very, very scary game. A mix of frightning music, daughnting camara views and truly terrifying scenarios makes this game a true scare-fest. It is also an extremely difficult game. It takes ages, and can take hours. I got stuck for hours on one little bit which is so simple to do. It is little things like these that can bring the game down. So I have found a walkthrough for those existing owners. I know this isn\'t an opinion, ...
...One is with the player clair, and the other is Leon. This walkthrough is for the Clair scenario. \"From the starting point, clear a path through the zombies and make your way to the gun shop. There, you will find two boxes of handgun ammunition. After the zombies break though the glass, you can either flee in terror or kill the zombies and get the shop owner\'s crossbow. In the alley behind the shop, make your way to the back of the van and collect ...

Second.....but is it better

Advantages: Scary, good plot, characters and alternate endings
Disadvantages: not as long as the first

The second in the Resident Evil series, but can it be better than the original? The first game is longer and harder, but Resident Evil 2 has by far better graphics. The story carries on after the first finished, the zombies have broken out of the mansion and are all over the city. You can play as either Leon or Clare, the game is different depending on which character you have chosen at the start. The story starts when the pair meet up in Racoon ...
...With the T-Virus spreading, all humans that come in contact become living-dead zombies. Like the first the game will keep you guessing what will happen round every corner, and like the first this is what will keep you hooked to this game. And also like the first game there are also a lot of puzzles that will keep you busy, this means that you don't just have to shoot zombied the whole game, you actually have to think about somethings. As the game ...

In good old fashioned resident evil style you have to solve many puzzles to open doors and escape through a sewer system and then a factory solving even more puzzles not to mention all the baddies you have to kill. ...as the original. It makes the game far too short, you’re just getting hooked and then it ends. Also I do not find the game challenging enough, if you like difficult games like me this is not the one for you. The sound like in the first one is very good (apart from the dodgy speech) and really puts you on edge. The music makes you feel like its about to make you jump and its usually right. The graphics aren’t spectacular but they’re ok. The gameplay ...

...surprised a lot. They thought Resident Evil would not pay off, and so gave it an ending that would suffice without a sequel. But the success persuaded them to make this. Things went wrong, things went right... What came to be known as "Resident Evil 1.5" to some people was scrapped... which is a good thing in many ways, because it left the way to this piece of genius.
