Boxshifters of the very best kind

AdvantagesInexpensive, wide range of products

Disadvantagescan seem a bit chaotic

"Richer Sounds works on the old principle of 'Pile em High, Sell em Cheap' Domestic hi-fi manufacturers rely surprisingly heavily on fashion to shift new equipment. In order to maximise development costs, they require substantial production runs in order to make a reasonable return on investment. The result is, towards the end of the product's marketing life cycle, there are substantial volumes of equipment still in the supply chain once new ..." Read review

Get A DVD Player for less than £15*

Advantageslow cost, appears cheap

Disadvantagesstores cramped, is it really that cheap?

"...(*£14.99 actually) Here's how it works, Richer Sounds (RS) are currently selling a basic DVD player for £25 (April 2004). However if you go to your local store and they don't have one in stock, they will give you a £10 voucher and deliver it to your door. Now you have to pray that they don't have one in stock at your local store!! By their own admission it is fairly basic, and is not multi-region, buy hey what can you expect for this price? I ..." Falls short of expectaions

AdvantagesExcellent prices, make buying easy

DisadvantagesLess easy to listen to systems than other hi-fi stores, impersonal service, poor shop layout

"...not enjoy my experice with Richer Sounds. Having decided to make the leap from mini system to separates, I noted a few Glasgoe hi-fi shops from my Yellow Pages and set off early this morning. I hurried to Richer Sounds, which was closed. Disappointing! It was ten in the morning on a Thursday, not unreasoable to expect a high street shop to be open. ot to be deterred, I went to what I expected to be the second choice on my list, Hi-Fi Corner. Well! ..." Read review

Save your money

AdvantagesFull of bargains

DisadvantagesNot that many around, but more and more are opening up!!

"I like most other Richer Sounds customers, have been using their stores for a few years now, and felt I should write a quick op, that I hope you will find usefull, and will hopefully save a few people some hard earned cash. When I go into a lagre high street music store, it really annoys me to see the prices they charge for blank mini discs among, and so often I see people coming in, grabbing a pack an paying through the nose. I feel like going ..." Read review

Richer Sounds Great

AdvantagesLow Prices

DisadvantagesSmall shops.

"Richer sounds was setup back in 1978 at Tower Bridge, London, by Julian Richer, who was 19 at the time. Since then the company has gone from strength to strength with shops opening in 34 countries/cities. The company now owns a total of 43 stores. they say that even though they have few shops, they are the countries biggest retailer. The company specialises in sound. They only supply parts of hi-fi systems and not entire midi systems as they believe ..." Read review

Richer Sounds, Pro's and Con's

AdvantagesVery cheap

DisadvantagesSmall stock

"Richer Sounds is a Hi-Fi shop with outlets across the UK as well as a mail order facility. It offers quite a small selection of hi-fi equipment but all items are very reasonably priced. They have a website, a bi-monthly catalogue, shops and numerous adverts in top hi-fi magazines (namely What Hi-Fi). To get a real bargain from Richer Sounds it is well worth checking out all of the above places because they often advertise different prices in each ..." Read review

High Fidelity

AdvantagesQuality equipment very cheap

DisadvantagesNot Cutting Edge

"I've used Richer Sounds for years. They have an excellent range of hi-fi equipment at prices that usually undercut the major high street retailers significantly. They deal mainly in seperates, and scoff at the mention of mini or midi systems. They have stores nationwide and a web site at www.richersounds.com. Richer also sell accessories such as tapes, cables , minidisks and recordable Cds. Their advice is excellent and most of the shops have listening ..." Read review

If I were a Richer Man

AdvantagesInexpensive, good quality merchandise and staff who know what they're talking about.

DisadvantagesShops are quite small and can be difficult to get around.

"I have only visited a branch of "Richer Sounds" once, not being a fully paid-up member of the technocracy, but I must say that I was impressed. As a young woman, I have sadly become habituated to shop assistants talking down to me when a product contains a circuit board. Obviously being a girl means that I'm just meant to stand a round and look pretty and buy an electrical item that matches all of the other things in my girly little room. Happily, ..." Read review

Excelent Value, AT A PRICE?

AdvantagesSome amazing deals.

DisadvantagesLack of stock of the items that are cheap, service.

"Richer Sounds - Stunning Prices but are they really a winner?...My large experience shows the truth behind the prices...don't buy before you have read THIS. Just to clarify, I have had many dealings with this shop over the years, so im not just blurting on because I went there once I really do know what im talking about. The key word of course being 'dealings', iv bought from the shop floor, over the phone, and off the internet site and i have also ..." Read review

Best HiFi shop around

AdvantagesCheap, friendly, they know thier stuff

Disadvantagesnot great with repairs, yes the shops are small

"...5 pieces of equipment from Richer sounds plus I dont know how many minidiscs. They have small shops. Thats the way they like it because at the end of the day if they pay lower rent they can give us lower prices. If you dont like rubbing against a geek with BO, tr going there on a Monday morning or some other quiet time 'cos you cant really expect it not to be busy on a Saturday afternoon. The prices - what is there to say, I dont understand anybody ..." Read review

Richer Sounds Bristol

AdvantagesPrices cheap and staff helpful

DisadvantagesParking poor and shop being refitted in August 2008

"I visited the Bristol shop with much expectation after planning for a while to buy a surround sound system and DVD recorder. After discovering their late starting times (11 am) I visited the shop to find them open but haveing major alterations done, so a lot of stock was not viewable and that that was, was covered in a fine dust. The staff were helpul without being pushy, and they talked me through what I needed. We agreed on a basic package when ..." Read review

Good experience with Richer Sounds

AdvantagesGood personal service, huge discounts

DisadvantagesLong waiting periods, hectic shops

"I have used Richer Sounds to purchase my entire separates hi-fi system, and I am very pleased with the significant savings they offer. Although sometimes the store does get very crowded, once obtained service is excellent. The friendly, personal nature of service is helpful and informative. The superb 'supercare' offer is brilliant. For just £10 your product is fully covered for 3 years, during which time your product will be serviced or repaired ..." Read review

Terrible After Sales Service

AdvantagesThe recorder itself is great

Disadvantagesdoesn't record straight to disk

"...me as a present from Richer Sounds in Bromley, Kent. It cost over £500 and the top make. I had it installed by the shop so everything was going to be fine, of course that cost extra. The item itself is excellent & the installer ran me through some things so I felt comfortable using it. I'd never had one before so was very naive. As things go all seemed well & I picked up well. A few weeks later I wanted to find if I could record straight from the ..." Read review

Richer Sounds Value

AdvantagesCheap, good value, very good service

Disadvantagescan get very busy

"...player and dvd player from richer sounds, and I am still to find a problem with the shop. Richer Sounds is one of the only high street shops to sell affordable multi region DVD players, and it is well worth buying one. They will price beat, have a good selection of products and are always willing to give advice and help you make the right choice for your needs. Also they do a very good extended guarantee, starting at £9.95 for three years, which is ..." Read review

Be warned

AdvantagesGreat prices, friendly staff, demos and other helpful things avalible

DisadvantagesThe Edinburgh and other smaller branches

"I am sorry to report a bad experience from one of the best and cheapest shops I know. Richer Sounds are the one stop retailer for Hi-Fi equipment. There prices are brilliant and if you buy What Hi-Fi they are even better. My first major purchase from them was not a good one in terms of service however. I bought a minidisc MZ-R55 from them, which i saved £50 pounds on. I got it , had to go 50 miles to get it at the discounted price however. ..." Read review
