Advantages: Burns the CDs effortlessly and no coasters Disadvantages: Not a DVD recorder
...Ok, for watching DVD's Ricoh have packaged up Cinemaster software. Once it is installed and you have it working it is great with loads of functionality. However, it does take some matering and there is limited instructions on how to use it. Poor show.
Performance. Brillo! I have not had any problems with it and it truly is a great drive. Ok, its not the quickest drive on the market but it is flexible by including both CD and DVD capability. Watching ... ...up speed and responsiveness are excellent.
No coasters on the burn are a credit to both software and the hardware. it must be a very stable device that requires minimum resources. Outside interference from running applications also do not phase this device and will quite happily run with 5 or 6 other programs open.
Price.
Hmm...Being an intrnal drive it is somewhat cheaper than a lot of drives that offer this facility. However, £129 is not going ...

Advantages: Does everything but make the tea. Disadvantages: It's not a DVD writer, but hey, it's £150
By chance, my CD-Writer died at the same time as I was looking to upgrade to DVD, and the MP9060 appeared to offer everything I needed in one drive which, at the time, seemed too good to be true.
Installing the unit was as easy as ever, simply remove the old drive and screw the new one in place. I bought the OEM box as soon in the first month of release and got a very early version, but everything worked straight out of the box, without a single ... ...graphics card, you will probably have to buy a seperate MPEG2 Decoder card. I have a Voodoo3 3000 AGP which, while it includes "Software Assistance", is very little use at all. In the end I picked up a cheap 2nd-user card from eBay.
Obviously, this being the OEM box, I had no software at all, and so spent a few hours looking at compatible software. For DVD I use PowerDVD which not only plays films without problems, but will also handle region changes ...

Advantages: Combo drive Disadvantages: slighly slow CD burn rate compared to others
I got this drive to eliminate the need for having separate DVD and CDRW drives when I was building a PC for someone.
The drive is IDE and lives quite happily on your secondary channel as a master - this is the recommended option to eliminate CD writing failures and DVD playback artifacts.
The drive comes complete with CD burning software in the shape of Nero Burning ROM V4, as opposed to the usual suspects of Adaptec Easy CD Creator or CeQuadrat ... ...software is not up to par - far from it! NBR4 can do everything the competition can and more, such as overburning media and bootable CDs.
The main reason for this is the DVD read capability. Although the 4x read is somehat behind what most dedicated DVD drives offer nowadays, in reality you only need 1x DVD read to view a movie. Let's face facts - how many DVD ROM titles are there out in the market? Not many! So relax and use this drive safe in ...
