Are us younger drivers being conned

Advantagesn/a

Disadvantagesn/a

"...sometimes and that insurance is rising to ridiculous levels. You know that something is wrong when you are charged the value of your car to insure it! As for solutions, I'm not too sure. Perhaps recognition for the type of cars you have experience on? Surely it isn't fair that someone my age who has been driving a 1 litre Fiesta for three years, is entitled to a standard 3 year NCB on a Porsche that he buys......whereas I (for arguments sake) have ..." The economics of insurance

AdvantagesActurarily logical

DisadvantagesIt comes out of my wallet

"...and the current situation of rising premiums… What basically is insurance? Well to explain quite it in simple terms, everybody is afraid of some sort of loss, and everyone pays a cost to the insurance company, and the people who suffer the loss obtain a share of this pool, and the people who lose don’t get anything from this pool. Why do we insure? If we consider a simple model of insurance companies accounts, it will have premiums ..." Read review

High cost Why Not

AdvantagesYour covered

DisadvantagesYour not covered

"...bonus" but the payouts are rising for liability so premiums rise so in fact your standing still or like me my extra year N.C.B did not even cover the premium increase. So don't blame the insurers blame the courts, jurors but most of all, as I wrote in the speed limits topic, blame the drivers. ..." Read review

Too much discrimination

AdvantagesYou can fight for payment in the event of an accident.

DisadvantagesIf you don't have an accident, it's money down the drain. Getting money out of an insurance company is like the 'getting blood out of a stone' scenario. I can only 'recommend to potential buyers' because it's illegal to drive without insurance.

"...my annual premium is actually RISING - not falling. That's despite the amount of no claims discount I have. There's little wonder that so many people are willing to take the risk and drive without insurance. It baffles me where all the money collected in insurance premium tax goes to. That's 5% of my premium lining the government's pockets. I could say the same about road tax. I pay all that money out each year, expecting that 'Road Tax', as ..." Read review

Why bother with insurance?

AdvantagesMight help you out if you have an accident

DisadvantagesCosts a fortune, insurance companies try not to pay out, legal requirement to have insurance

"...of personal injury claims and rising repair costs. In the seven years I've been driving, I have never had an accident and have never made a claim of any sort on any insurance. Why on earth should I have to pay eve more for something that I never use? It is no wonder that there are so many people driving around without insurance. The chance of getting caught is so slim and the money you save is so great that every year I wonder whether it is worth ..." Read review

Government Must Act Now

AdvantagesGot to be insured to drive legally

DisadvantagesLike flushing your hard earned cash away

"I have recently been trying to get insured by myself instead of being on my dad’s policy, but apparently insurance companies consider me a threat because I fall into the 'young driver' category. I recently got given a quote on £12,840 (I have the e-mail to confirm it) from Cornhill Insurance for my R-reg. Rover 214, and that was based on a 3rd party insurance policy. I think it’s a disgrace that young drivers should be taken advantage ..." Read review

Beat the rising Car Insurance Costs

AdvantagesHow to save money on your car insurance

DisadvantagesNone

"You can beat the rising cost of car insurance if you know where to look and what to do. Firstly don't stick with the same insurer year after year, if you do your costs will go up. Shop around each year, get quotes from several reputable companies direct you will often pick up a discount from them just for being a new customer. Avoid insurance brokers, cut out the middle man and go to the big insurers direct. Use the internet to shop around for ..." Read review

MINIMISE your costs!

AdvantagesReductions in premiums.

DisadvantagesNeeds some time and effort!

"1.WHEN YOUR RENEWAL comes in, dont just accept it. Contact on-line insurers, telephone insurers, and your local brokers. 2.CONSIDER CHANGING from comprehensive to third party, fire, and theft if you have an older car. 3.CONSIDER who can drive your car. Young drivers and those with poor accident records will incur heavier premiums. 4.CONSIDER insuring the car in your wifes name. Women owners always attract lower premiums than men! 5.CONSIDER a higher ..." Read review

Car insurance worth more than the car

AdvantagesIf you have a full on smash you can claim.

DisadvantagesIf you don't have a smash you don't get any reductions

"Young drivers think that they are being unfairly treated by insurance companies, but let me put you straight. I am 30 years old and have been driving since I was 18 years old. I have never had a speeding ticket, parking fine and have never been pulled over by the Police. So why when I went to insure my car did they want over £1,200 for insurance. That was not one of the dearest quotes, needless to say I never bothered with the car and now rely ..." Read review

Pay As You Drive

AdvantagesCould reduce premiums

DisadvantagesCould encourage speeding

" A new revolutionary method of paying for your car insurance may well be available to European motorists by 2001. "Pay-As-You-Drive", where drivers pay rates varying between 0.9 and 5 pence a mile instead of an annual premium, is already available to U.S. motorists. Using new G.P.S.(Global Positioning Satellite) technology to track vehicles, the insurance is then charged out by the mile or by the minute. The rates charged would vary depending ..." Read review

Just another wallet emptier

AdvantagesThere are none

DisadvantagesAt this rate we'll all have to be millionaires to run a Mini

"Not only do we have to put up with sky-high petrol prices, bulging road tax costs and inflating MoT certificates we also get lumbered with ever-increasing car insurance. When I was 17 and purchased my first car I paid £1000 a year third party on insurance which, although astronomical, I was quite happy to do. Back then I was comforable in the knowledge that when I hit 25 my insurance premiums would plummet and I would be able to zoom around in big ..." Read review

It doesn’t have to be this hard to own a car

AdvantagesCars, what can I say

DisadvantagesRead the opinion

"As you know car insurance premiums are set to rise by 25%, and for young drivers like myself this is a nightmare. It already costs lots to get lessons, take your tests and pass them. I sympathise for all who failed as it costs around £70 to do it again. You either insure yourself on your parent’s car or buy your own. I think i'll be insuring myself on my parents super cool (NOT) Ford Fiesta for the time being, even that will cost too much. Some of ..." Read review

Persuaded by that smoothtalking Quentin Wilson to by from Insure.co.uk?

AdvantagesEasy site to navigate, short series of questions

DisadvantagesTerms and conditions hidden

"Having read Quentin's no nonsense column in the Daily Mirror, I had come to respect his opinions and advice. When I saw him advertising a new innovative way of insuring via Insure.co.uk I thought I might give it a try. The site was almost as silky smooth as Qentin's dulcet and inviting tones - even more enticing was the offer of having my first year's premiums returned in full after five years - brilliant? read on. My query returned a quoted ..." Read review

Cheaper Insurance

AdvantagesShop around save hundreds of pounds per year

DisadvantagesTime

"Just had my car insurance renewal through - up 20% on last year. Decided like every year to go through the yellow pages and websites to see if I could get a cheaper quote. I am continually amazed at how much variation there is in the price of car insurance. My renewal quote was for £500 yet some of the companies managed to quote £1400 for comparable cover, however I was unable to beat my renewal. Moral of the story, no matter how low of a risk you ..." Performance Direct...

AdvantagesCompetitive prices

DisadvantagesPolicy is a shambles.

"More like performance bypassed I have used Go Compare for my husbands car insurance, and got a fantastic quote from a company called performance direct. But beware! The reason they were so cheap is as follows. When he called to confirm the quote he was asked a few quick questions, had he had any accidents in the past 3 years, how was his no claims bonus etc. He was then asked if he would be doing less then 10.000 miles a year, to which he replied ..."
