I purchased my Rolex Explorer II back in 1999, original price was about £2100 pounds but after a Tax refund at the airport (Expat) got the price down to £1800. Current pricing is around £2350. So what do you get for your money? A very nice example of a hand made Swiss watch, which will last a lifetime. I opted for the white face, which I prefer (also available with black face). The sales pitch for a Rolex is that it's for people who appreciate quality. Despite it being a sales pitch it is true. You shouldn't buy a Rolex just to show off. I bought my Explorer II in Spring 2004. It has been the best "luxury" product that I have ever bought in my life - very accurate, rugged (particularly the sapphire crystal) and reliable, and never fails to elicit positive comment (which I suspect would not always have been the case if I had purchased a gold Rolex, for example). The only real weakness relates to the luminous markers on the dial and the hands, which are not particularly bright - but this is far outweighed by the pleasure that this watch has been to own. ...

I recently acquired the Rolex Anniversary Submariner (16610 LV) as my fourth Rolex. Initially thought to be a limited edition released in 2003, Rolex continues to produce the anniversary version. The anniversary submariner is, like the standard 16610 Submariner Date, waterproof to 300m and features the triplock crown.
