Management simulations have always wielded a strange hex over me. Personally, assuming the mantle of God provides unnatural and unhealthy levels of gratification. I don’t consider myself a rabid control freak; in fact I have a reluctant relationship with utter disorganisation in the real world. So why would a game like Rollercoaster Tycoon appeal then? Allow me to explain. The premise of Rollercoaster Tycoon is unquestionably simple: create, manage and maintain a fully operational Theme Park. For many, this may sound marginally less interesting than the autobiography of Toby Anstis, but I ... more

A few weeks ago I replied to an opinion on this very game and left a message that I would really love to own a copy of Rollercoaster Tycoon. A fellow member (OFFY) saw my plea and seeing as she had an unwanted copy, she decided to give it to me free of charge. The game is basically, an upgrade of Theme Park and for those of you who have yet to experience the pleasures of this wonderful game, here is a brief run down of what it is. * THE IDEA * Rollercoaster Tycoon, is basically a simulator game for anyone who has always dreamed of owning his or her very own theme park. You are given a choice ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages None as of yet.

Well i am guessing that most of you will have heard of this game by now, or indeed its Sequal, Rollercoaster Tycoon 2. Well, i have just purchased the Sequal, but i have not played it enough to warrant me to give my opinion on it, so i thought i would write about the first in the series. Rollercoaster Tycoon, by Chris Sawyer, is basically set in a theme park, where you are given objectives to complete in a certain amount of time. it can be where you have to have 1,500 people in your park, with a park rating of 600. to where you just have to have a high park rating. --------------------Graphics ... more

Anyone who has been following my reviews for a while will have realised by now that I’m a huge fan of simulation games. Build a family, control their every move and act generally God like? I’m playing it like a shot. Make a zoo, choose the exhibits and keep them well fed and happy? Just try keeping me away. So when my parents were stuck for a birthday present for me recently, they decided to pop to PC World and pick up various simulation type games, one of which was Rollercoaster Tycoon, a game I’ve been hankering after ever since I first saw it a few months ago. WHAT IS IT? Rollercoaster ... more

Roller Tycoon is the first and only game I played of the theme park sort and as you can tell from the title I really love it. The aim of this game is not just to build roller coasters but manage a whole theme park. You have to landscape your park, build shops and toilets, hire employees and rake in the cash. ----Starting The Game---- This game is based on completing different scenarios; in each different scenario there are a number of different tasks that have to be completed. e.g Park value = 20,000, Number of people in your park etc. It is not a very big game and runs fast on most computers ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Very addictive

Attention all theme park fans! Have you ever wanted to design, build and manage your very own theme park? Well now it is possible with Rollercoaster Tycoon. Now three years old and the newer version now out this was a great format for a theme park game. Designed by Chris Sawyer and produced by Micro prose and Hasbro Interactive the game became an instant hit with “tycoon’s” upon its release. This very time consuming game offers 30 levels which offer different landscapes and sizes of land for you to build your theme park on. As I have said in the previous paragraph, there are 30 levels which ... more

Im totally addicted to this game, although it is a few years old now and there are better versions avaliable i love it. Roller Coaster tycoon is one of those management games which you are totally hooked upon once you load it into your PC, it's one of those games where you have to sit here and you have to succeed, every stage is crucial and if anyone interupts THEN SO GOD HELP THEM I WILL ERUPT, careful planning and building operation has to go into this game, a lot of thought to attract the customers to ensure success. Roller coaster Tycoon is probably the most successful theme park game to be brought out this side of the Atlantic. It's more classy and with better graphics than Theme park and isn't as annoying as the afore mentioned's predecessor, Theme Park World. I got my copy on a special offer from QXL.com for £3 and let me tell you I am glad I did. *~What is it all about?~* RT is basically what it says on the tin. You own a theme park. You have money. You have a set goal and a set time to do that goal in. At first you start of with the easy ones like 'Get 400 people in your park in 1 year'. As it goes ... more

Advantages Advantages Great game, loads of scenarios.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be slow and crash.

RollerCoaster Tycoon is the best!! So to start off with, I think I should mention the minimum system requirements. So here they are; Windows 95/98, Pentium 90, 16MB RAM, Quad speed (4x) CD-ROM drive, 50MB Hard drive space, 1MB SVGA card, Windows 95 compatible sound card, Direct X 5.0 (included on CD), and a mouse. The game is about building and improving theme parks. At the beginning of the game, you have a few different scenarios to try out. On each scenario you have an objective. In other words, a task. This could be, for example: to get 1000 guests in your park by the end of October year 2 ... more
