Veni, Vidi, Vici. *Updated*

Advantages: Great Improvement over its Predecessors. Battles look fantastic.
Disadvantages: A high-end computer needed to run it well.

...The family tree system in Rome: Total War is quite simple. Your family members marry over time, and then have children, and the generations continue. Your daughters may not be given control of anything, only the men of the family may be given a role in the Empire. Each family member possesses certain traits, some may be highly bureaucratic and intelligent, some may see the bigger picture when it comes to policy making, rather than nitpicking every ...
...the new features introduced in Rome: Total War is the senate. The senate adds an aspect of chance to the game, each time you play the missions given can be totally different. Missions usually entail taking a certain city, or blockading ports, or establishing trade agreements with other civilized peoples. Before I go onto to explain city development, I will first explain the aspects of diplomacy. Each major faction takes turns just like yours. Some ...

You have the mammoth task of training troops, keeping your citizens happy, filling your coffers, ruling the seas, dealing with numerous natural disasters, maintaining diplomatic ties with allies and defending borders against enemies. In the midst of it all spies have to be rooted out, assassins thwarted and marauding bandits crushed. The game is ...

Shogun was great, Medieval added a few things that made the game play interested and now Rome has improved vastly in graphics and in the technical department and made the playing experience a really enjoyable one. Rome rocked

Advantages: Excellent strategy game
Disadvantages: Not for those without time on their hands.

This is the game who's engine was used recently on one of the bbc's programs, it featured historical battles being fought by teams of people, and the public wanted to try it themselves. Thus, Rome:Total War was born and many people, including me, were and are hooked onto it. As i hurried home with the game in my hand, and a few points on my game card, i couldnt wait to play it. The cellophane was ripped off, and the cd placed in the drive, i couldnt ...
...just changing cd's every now and again. And then suddenly, the question was popped " Would you like to run Rome:Total War now". I ticked the box, and pressed ok, the red loading screen opened up before me. The small red bar at the bottom of the screen filled up and i had started my journey into the past. The list of options on the main screen are as follows: Prologue Imperial Campaign Multiplayer Historical Battle Options Load game Quit game ...

Mrs Cad regrets the day she bought this.

Advantages: Good sounds, graphics, controls, reply value....
Disadvantages: Can burn a lot of time playing it

Unleash Hell This game is part of the Total War series, which I have never played before. I received this as a birthday present back in November 2005 and as a result is the reason why there was a hiatus in my Ciao career for over six months! So what's it all about and why did I spend a long time playing one PC game? Well the game is basically a strategy game where you control a historical faction and use it's resources, characters and armies to ...

After the initial load up the game runs through a quick introduction sequence which gives you a nice feel for how the battle scenes look in ...

What the Romans did for us

Advantages: Depth, superb battles
Disadvantages: A bit similar to the previous games in the series

Rome: Total War is the latest installment in the Total War series of Real Time Strategy games, from Creative Assemblies. The previous incarnations, Shogun TW and Medieval TW were brilliant games, does Rome deliver the same standard of quality? As you'd expect the game covers the period of the early Roman Empire, from 273 BC to around 50 AD, during which time you must take the role of leader of a Roman family as they try to expand their sphere of ...
...play as one of the Barbarian factions, such as the British, Greeks or Gauls, but I an't confirm that as I am still playing my first game, six months after getting it! The game is split into two main areas, the "world" map which covers most of Europe, North Africa and some of the Middle East and the "battle" maps. On the main world map you can see your forces laid out including armies, leaders, cities, fleets etc. You start with only one city and ...

Strength and Honour

Advantages: Totally addictive, builds on previous successes
Disadvantages: Goodbye social life

I first began playing this series of war based strategy games when I moved in with my housemate nearly a year ago. I had been a fan of 'Dune2' and 'Command and Conquer' but these took it to a whole new level. Shogan Total War (based in Japan) was the first and set the scene. I joined soon after Medevil Total War was released and was hooked. Rome Total War is the newest (and best) of the series to come along. The basic premise with all of these ...
...set in one of the time periods. You have control over all of the internal and foreign dealings, from changing taxes, to upgrading buildings, to fighting wars, everything is in your hands. The main map screen shows you the game overview and it's huge (Rome has over 200 colonies for you to interact with) this is where you see you settlements and manage the people's lives. This in itself is very detailed and can be rewarding on a certain level as you ...

Rome Total CLASSIC!

Advantages: Great realistic battles and gameplay, many playable factions. Great Replay value
Disadvantages: Not all factions are playable

This game has to be one of the best games of all time! Rome Total War combines both realistic style game-play battle situations in which you can personally take command of the forces available, and economic aspects. The battle terrains can vary or be the very similar or indeed the same. However, many conditions are taken into account, for example; there is snow during winter and it can even be snowing/raining whilst you play you can even play in ...
...snow and rain impeeds the accuracy of archer units. The Battle simulation is the same used in the television program "Time Commanders", where you take command of an army and try to win on the battlefield. All is not based entirely around you fighting army after army, if you'd rather not fight every battle you can "auto-resolve" a battle, the downside of this is you can lose a battle which you personally could have won easily had you played out the ...

Great product

Advantages: Brilliant game
Disadvantages: Nothing

Rome Total War is the third game made by the Total War series. It has improved upon Shogun Total War and Medieval Total War and has embarked on a new era. There has only been one game made after Rome Total War which is Empire Total War, although in my opinion, Rome Total War is better. In Rome Total War you can decide to be the leader of several different factions. You can choose to lead a segment of the Romans, or you can be the enemies of Rome ...
...also an option. Overview At the beginning of the game you start with a couple of cities and a small army with your faction leader at command. The game is split into turns like most strategy games and one turn lasts six months. In Winter battles in Europe can become very tricky due to blizzards and in Africa in Summer your armies wearing metal can get tired very easily. You can then begin taking over towns and try to take over the whole world. The ...

The best RTS you're likely to see.

Advantages: Absolutely mind blowing battles, attention to detail, replayability
Disadvantages: Bad naval battles

...to describe games. The way Rome: Total War is, "epic" is more than fitting. The guys at CA have been pounding this game out for four years, starting development about the same time as Medieval: Total War. What's even better is the fact that rather than selling out, CA and Activision had the wisdom to hold back from a fall release in 2003, taking this last year to finish building and polishing this titan of a game. All this pretty much just adds up ...
...Gameplay is divided up into two main sections: the Campaign Map and Battles. The deepest part is definitely going to be the Campaign Map. But what's nice is that this game is incredibly customizable. While there is an incredible depth of detail available to you, none of that is forced on you, allowing you to choose whatever aspects you want, while "disabling" the more difficult intricacies of the game and leaving them to advisors. Shogun and Medieval ...

WHEN IN ROME!

Advantages: Endorsed by the BBC. Great graphics, sound, gamplay and lastability.
Disadvantages: You need a long attention span.

--- OVERVIEW --- Rome: Total War was first seen (in a earlier form) on the BBC series Time Commanders. Thoroughly enjoyed by myself, when I heard a home PC game was coming out using the same game engine I was delighted. Using diplomacy, trade, negotiation and best of all war, your aim is to expand the Romans territory. Ultimately you can become Emperor too. --- GAMEPLAY --- Following on from the other Total War games (Shogun and Medieval) the ...

Using the overview map you can move your armies to various areas to tackle the missions, then it’s down to ground level to take on the enemy. In addition you can build up towns, bridges and roads and the battle maps will adapt to show them. Its not only the Romans to be controlled as Greek, Carthaginian ...

CHAAAAAARGE!!!!!

Advantages: Graphical detail
Disadvantages: hard to control

Picture the scene. You have just taken the last province of Northern Italy. In front of you lies a mountain range, and beyond that, all of Gaul, and then who knows - Britain, maybe Spain, time will tell. You march you're fifth legion through a pass, but are ambushed. A thousand 'Naked warriors charge the sides of your column, within minutes your army is gone, pigs and all. Just another event in Rome, the latest edition to the critically acclaimed ...
...of Medieval - everything in this game is in awesome, kick ass, perversely erotic 3D, despite being one of the largest scaled games ever (having multiple armies of well over a thousand is commonplace). Gameplay wise, this is basically the same as the previous instalments, a turn based map where everything is built, with a real time engine. Beyond that, this is so much deeper than either of the previous instalments - there are now ambushes, proper ...
