Take the hen for a walk...

Advantages: Great early learning book
Disadvantages: Don't read it too often...not alot of mileage

I have read this book so many times to different children and they tend to love it! THE STORY "Rosie the hen goes for a walk". The first page starts it off in the style of the whole book...simple but effective. Rosie is a chubby little hen who I always imagine to be a bit of a busybody, and off she goes for a walk... unbeknown to her, she is being followed by a big bad fox! So there she goes quite oblivious to the fact that she is being followed, ...
...of her journey shows her going "across the yard" (yes, those are the only words!), and then when you turn the page, boing, the fox stands on a garden fork which hits him in the face. This is the format of the whole book; a double page telling us where Rosie goes next and then a double page with no text, just a picture of the mishaps befalling the fox, whilst Rosie walks contentedly on. After going "across the yard, around the pond, over the haycock, ...

Rosie's Walk

Advantages: Great for 4 -7 year olds
Disadvantages: None!

A great book for 4 - 7 year olds and definately one to keep on the book shelves at home. The story tells us about Rosie and her walk around the farmyard and the other animals that she meets. It is a moral tale and it has a happy ending. I would definately recommend it for both boys and girls - I have used it many times in my job as a Foundation Stage/Key Stage One teacher. The children love the pictures, which are clear and colourful. They enjoy ...
...Children like to discuss the book and it gives adults a good opportunity to talk about how they would behave etc. It is a good book to share with Mum or Dad and the children like to draw/paint their own version of the characters and events afterwards. The book also encourages the children to begin reading because they can begin to recognise common words which they would also be learning at school. The text is clear and easy for children to understand. ...
