My work mate saw my Rover Coupe after I had bought it and said `I bet that goes like sh...............t off a shovel. Well it did and I certainly notice the difference now that I have a 4 x 4. I bought the Rover after seeing it displayed in a petrol station by a private seller. I had to drive past it every day and eventually brought my husband to have a look. He liked it straight away. The first time I saw these on the t.v. in the Rover Turbo Trophy Cup I said to myself I have got to have one! Ten years down the line I finally bought one, selling my pride and joy Sierra Cosworth to get one. The is no other car on the road to match the aggressive appearance of the Tomcat, you look at these and they cry out LOOK AT ME. In standard form they produce a respectable 200bhp, however after two years of tuning mine now produces a scary 250bhp, 0-60mph in under 5 secs and a top end of nearly 160mph. Rover Coupes (not just the turbo one) are fairly rare (well not rare but certainly quite uncommon) and so it's nice owning something that isn't always immediately recognised. As some others have commented they do have their problems - build quality, oil usage (220 and 220 turbo) but for the price that they go for now (can get a lot for 4K), they are an absolute bargain will all the electrics and leather and of course the T-bar. Yes the handling isn't great around corners, but you get used to it (the key is not to be stupid) and there is a fair amount of road noise at motorway speeds and there ... more

I bought this car about 3 years ago when it was only 2 years old. I'd never driven one before. I'd always loved the gorgeous looks and just had to have the Turbo Model. The performance in a straight line is unbelievable (0-60 in just over 6 secs - 150mph top speed). The only similar cars that touch it are the Impreza and Fiat Coupe. Mercedes CLK, BMW 328, Audi A4 Quattro and Vectra GSI's just can't keep up with this car. On the minus side, the handling is not up to the performance. Advantages Cheap and cheerful, power in parts
Disadvantages Unreliable,

Be careful when buying or driving one of these beasties. The water hoses have a design flaw that means they can become loose at a most inappropriate time, jettisoning your entire water supply on the road and, guess what happens, the turbo and engine overheats and splat one solid lump instead of an engine. Promise much, deliver less than optimum driving performance but you pays your money and gets an average coupe. Best to get a full AA or RAC inspection done as these were not the best machines in the world when built let alone second hand. Check the seatbelt anchorages - my mate used to fit ... more

I BOUGHT THIS CAT BECAUSE I SAW ONE IN A MAGAZINE YEARS AGO AND I HAVE WANTED ONR SINCE I WAS A CHILD. THIS CAR HAV EGOT ELECTRIC WINDOWS AND MIRRORS IT HAS GOT HALF LEATHER INTERIOR AND WALNUT FININSHING INSIDE. THE ENGINE IS QUIET. IT IS BLOODY FAST 1 THERE IS ALOT OD TOUQUE STEER BUT I HAVE NOT HAD ANY EXPERIENCE OF THIS. Owned a 96 220 Turbo now for about 6 months and got to say it is a fantastic car. I have had no problems with my current car at all (Probably due to being serviced every 2000 mile). If you take care of this car it will give you brilliant fun motoring. The current car has had uprated brakes which I'm told is a must and they are very sharp and responsive. The acceleration is brutal and have to be very careful to try and stop the car wheel spinning and keep it in a straight line due to the torque steer. Once it get going though is very good. Advantages very fast, cheap to buy and good looks
Disadvantages poor brakes if standard ones still fitted

Bought this car very cheap privately because it was too powerful for the owner, original brakes are not good enough for the power of this car, 200bhp. Very quick 0-60 in 6 secs. Good looking car compared to those coming onto the market today , spare parts are fairly easy and cheap to source due to the fact that all coupes use the same panel parts including the newer VVC models, Ihave had no problems with this car since I have had it. Sounds to me like you're being blinded by your childhood fantasy. I have owned two of these cars, both of which ran like dogs. The first one was riddled with problems and was constantly in the garage with problems. The second one had a faulty roof panel and was eventually stolen by thieves breaking in this way. Basically it sounds like you're a dummy who likes to have flashy cars that look pretty and make a lot of noise, in fact you sound like a puff.
