Advantages: Cheap to buy and run. Nice to drive.
Disadvantages: Image of slippers and carpet sticks however unjust it is

...between them hired us a Rover 25 for six days. When I turned up at the Europcar desk in Stafford I was down to hire a sexy black 1800 Seat Leon, which had my taste buds going with excitement. As soon as the clerk learnt I was taking the car away and wouldn’t be returning it to her branch she changed my car into a Rover 25, so she could keep the Lovely Seat for the people of Stafford! I should have been happy with this as they hired me a car, ...
...I had “ Roger the Rover “, I drove just over 500 miles in him. The car was a five-door hatchback fitted with a 1400 injection 16-value engine. The car was painted in Wedgwood blue which is a very light blue metallic paint and it really suits the Rover model. Rover 25’s History ******************* This Rover model started life as the Rover 200 series back in 1995 and gained a good reputation as a reliable car. The cars lasted well ...

Its not over for Rover

Advantages: A good all round car with a smart look
Disadvantages: Bit cramped for a tall person

Rover cars have had a tough time recently, well the last 30 years if I am to be honest. The lowest point in the companies history must have been when it was sold to BMW, but for the consumer I believe it was a Godsend. For BMW invested heavily in the company and produced 3 very fine cars and 1 in particular took my fancy, the new Rover 25. I liked it so much that I went out and brought one before Christmas and have never looked back since. *****Power ...
...front looks similar to the Rover 75 giving you a feeling of superiority of other small car drivers and the tailgate has a great look to it giving the car a good all round look. Your alloy wheels can be changed to a more racier look with the 16-inch ‘Active’ sports wheel, however I went for the more classy ‘Fission’ look which is 15 inch’s. *****High Performance with Safety***** The performance of the car is fine, no ...

Red Rover, Red Rover!

Advantages: high BHP for a small engine!
Disadvantages: Has devalued enormously!

...this may be influenced by Rover going bust though! 4) Don't know if we are just unlucky, but the bulbs tend to blow alot! 5) Both the back and middle part of the exhaust has had to be replaced already - again don't know if we are just unlucky! 6) Watch out for the ariel, it doesnt like being reversed into a lower garage etc - it snaps right off! Good: 1) Powerful - being a light car with 103bhp, it's a pretty nippy car! 2) Fuel consumption ...
...pretty pleased with the car, however it is very doubtful that we will buy a Rover again simply because there are so many better cars out there for us - a bigger one will be needed next time and the 45's and 75's do not appeal to me at all! ...

Looks Nice but......

Advantages: Good Handling, Economical and Stylish Looks.
Disadvantages: Basic Interior and depreciates rapidly.

...I was given was a Rover 25 1·4 ie so I thought why not give the car the once over and then write an opinion for the Ciao readers. The Rover 25 1·4 ie 16V looks nice but looks can be deceiving and the interior does not live up to the promise of the exterior. The inside is basic, but it is a basic model so I shouldn't expect too much, you get remote central locking, a cassette/radio, drivers airbag and a sunroof for your £8K+ (prices vary between ...
...The handling is excellent and Rover has carried the good handling tradition of the Rover 200 through to the Rover 25 models. However the power steering is slightly on the heavy side and therefore the handling was not as good as my Ford Focus. The 16 valve injection develops 84 bhp in this economy model which gives the car a very good pick-up for a car with only a 1400 cc engine. Because the car is an economy model it delivers good fuel consumption ...

A nippy little number!

Advantages: Cheap to run, good handling.
Disadvantages: Starting to look dated now.

I upgraded to a Rover 25 1.4i from my Rover 100, which had frankly seen better days. My immediate opinion of this car was "wow, this thing can move"! Okay, so I'm probably a little biased given I was driving what was basically a 1.1 Metro, but it really was more responsive than I was expecting from a 1.4 Rover - no longer was I having to coax my car at roundabouts and junctions! Image wise it was a major step-up from the Rover 100, which was essentially ...
...offered by rival manufacturers, something Rover are often a victim of - their designs just do not held the market as well others. In terms of fuel comsumption, it's really rather economical for a 1.4litre car - I'm not noticing a big difference in comparison to my Rover 100, which is a distinct advantage, and I dare say I'm not getting the best fuel consumption anyway as the majority of my driving is urban. Space wise, it's not great for the taller ...

Rover 25 (1.4i)

Advantages: Hatchback for 4
Disadvantages: Old fogey reputation

I've now had my Rover 25 for over a year, and not had a single problem from it (other than those imposed by the local vandals - but that's not to do with the car!). Having bought it off my stepdad-in-law, I also know that he has had not problems with it - so thats 3.5 years of hassle free motoring. In terms of ride etc, it's pretty good - nice tight steering, firm suspension and enough poke to get around in. I made the step up from my 1.2 Punto and ...
...wouldn't recommend going to a Rover garage (my local is a Rover/Fiat - I don't know if there are still full Rover garages after Rover's collapse). Talking of Rover going under, this has also added to the reduction in prices - you can usually pick up a decent 3 yr old model for around £3k - which is a bargain. Don't worry about spare parts - these are usually made by independant suppliers (usually the same guys who supplied Rover in the 1st place!). ...

The Rover 25, a surprising little number...

...that I'm not a particular Rover fan and have driven older Rover 200s and a 400. I found the handling of those cars to be very vague, indeed the 216 I drove was quite frightning and the Honda engine completely outclased the chassis. When test driving the 25 I was pleasently surprised and found the handling was crisp and responsive, and the car felt very secure on the road. The 1.4 engine can get a little breathless and can be a little harsh a higher ...
...is a common fault on Rover K series engines. The replacement part was a Lotus item, and new enging studs were also fittled. This I'm assuerd will cure the problem, whilst the engine was in bits the cam belt was also replaced. The bill came to about £200 (mates rates), but a few calls to other garages confirmed that replacement won't break the bank. The car is well equiped with electric windows, alloy wheels and central locking. The factory alarm ...

Rover 25

Advantages: Comfortable, Very Reliable.
Disadvantages: None that spring to mind

The Rover i have to say is one of the most comfortable, easiest, most efficient car i have ever driven. It's slick, smooth look and the way it glides along the road is fantastic. Rovers have always been apart of my family. My Mum and Dad have had various Rovers since i can remember and my Dad used to work for Rover back in the day. I've had mine for over a year now and i have not had a single problem with it. It's 7 years old, has done 37,000 miles ...

My Rover 25 5-year report

Advantages: Comfortable, nippy, good looking
Disadvantages: Poor dealer service

...25 has inherited that strange Rover trait of being able to accelerate around corners with no dramas. Having been also driving several Hyundai cars and a SEAT Ibiza (06) I realised that I never fully appreciated just how good the Rover is! The SEAT sounds rough and feels cheap compared to the little Longbridge Longboat, while the comparison with the Hyundais reveals just how far the Koreans have to come. I regularly drive all manner of cars in connection ...
...BMW 530d, but the little Rover always brings a smile to my face. You can't buy new ones anymore, so buy the best secondhand one you can afford. Service history is a MUST. If you don't fancy tinkering yourself, find a good local independent mechanic for servicing. The car is well designed and layout is good, so costs will be reasonable. If you can't find a record of a timing belt change, get one done at once. The Interval is 90kmiles/6 years. Replace ...

Good Car, Shame about the price drop.

Advantages: Style, handling, economy.
Disadvantages: Low offer from dealer on trade in.

...enjoyed having and driving my Rover 25 impression. It was a gold version, very attractive. I had it 18 months or so, from new. It never had a single fault, it was totally reliable, and it was a pleasure to drive. I even towed a small caravan easily and with stability. The only initial quibble was that the glove compartment felt cheap, and rattled a bit, detracting from the general standard. I always intended trading up to the diesel version as ...
...to keep a 'final car' that will be very long lasting, with good power and economy. However, when I approached the dealer, to see if I could afford the upgrade I was shocked at the low offer for trade in. There was no equity in it (with my loan taken into account)to deposit on the new one. Considering the price of cars on the forecourt, and for models with less spec. than mine, it seemed a very poor deal. I've ended up with another make of car because ...

If your thinking about buying this car, dont bother.

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: Like plastic and falls apart

I have had a Rover 25 for about 12 months now and to be honest I have wanted to get rid of it ever since I bought it, there has been nothing but problems with it. My Rover is 5 years old so you would expect a car of this age to be running fairly well, well no! The MOT ended up costing me £400 because of leaks and things and also something had come loose inside the exhause which apparently could cause the car to konk out at any time (not what you ...

Why I love my Car

Advantages: Great Drive
Disadvantages: Always being hit!

I've owned my Rover 25 Impression since 2002 - and I love it!! I drive about 30,000 miles a year, and this car has yet to give me one second of trouble. It is a smooth drive, with great handling - thanks to the power steering. I find it economical on petrol - which is good news today - and when it needs to it can fairly move. I bought a showroom car that had alloys - but not much else. I must say that the sound system that comes as standard is ...
...checkered interior, and I find it doesn't stain easily, and is simple to maintain. I've had a couple of flat tyres over the years, and I've always found them easy to replace on my Rover. My one problem is that I have so many little dents on my car that its not going to have much of a resale value - although I can't imagine selling my car for a long time. Its got great reliability and its a pleasure to drive. If I'm in other cars I find their clutches ...

Nice Drive bit a little too basic

Advantages: Nice drive, very nippy, good fuel economy
Disadvantages: No central locking or electric windows

...basic version of a new Rover 25 for the last couple of days, though my usual vehcile is a Renault Scenic. The Rover 25 is a small car, though it will seat 5 people. I've found the handling and drive quality of the Rover 25 to be excellent, the car is very nippy and handles corners extremely well aided by the power steering. Fuel economy also seems to be reasonable at around 33 mpg for an urban cycle. The car also has a fairly good stereo system. ...
