Advantages Advantages Goo dhandling, responsive power steering & easy to park

Disadvantages Disadvantages Immobiliser/alarm issues & wider than average doors on the 3 door model

I replaced my aging 1995 Rover 214SEi in November with a new Rover 25 Advantage model. This is basically the standard 1.4i model with metallic paint, alloy wheels and 3 years or 45,000 miles servicing thrown in. The free servicing works on a voucher basis so you get sent a booklet of vouchers from Rover directly rather than the dealership where you buy the car. There are 3 vouchers for 3 x 15,000 mile services over a 3 year period and these cover all labour, parts & fluids/consumables except for tyres, brake pads & wiper blades. The fuel economy is excellent and the tank holds a healthy 50 odd ... more

Now I drive a Nissan 200SX however, my dad has a Rover 45 1.4 and as his car is for general use (being as he is a ‘dad’), I consider myself to have as much intimate knowledge of this car as my own (coz mine also tends to go into the garage or near the bottom of the driveway (whereas his is at the top and therefore easier to get out!!)). Now dad had a Honda Civic 1.4 SE previous to this which, to those who know your cars, is basically the same thing only a Honda. The Rover was just newer! The Rover is, I will grant you, just as nicely average looking a car as the Civic. It has power ... more

Advantages Advantages A lot of space for the money and a nice looking respectable car.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Parts are now hard to find, I will sell my car soon as a result.

Good car! I've had no problems yet, but future is bleak! Acceleration is good enough to keep you amused without being too much for a new driver. It will happily get to motorway speed without feeling slow. Road handling and grip are good. Brakes tend to be on or off and clutch is very heavy. Seats are comfortable and the driving position is natural. Interior design is simple but pleasing to the eye. Mine came with faux wood panelling, which is always a talking point, but does suit the car. Dials are a nice grey contrast. Rear passenger space is sufficient; however with 2 people in the front it ... more

Rover a marque which still stands for quality and reliability. I recently purchased by third Rover, a Rover 45. A car which believe it or not turns heads (especially when it is shiny and clean). The build is very good, the specification matches any luxury car and it is extremely comfortable. Of three Rovers I have owned, all have been very reliable, never (apart from one flat battery) has the cars failed to start. I still own my second Rover, a Rover 100 (Metro), it has been a realiable as the first Metro I had. The Rover 100 was bought front new and has done 55,000 miles, and all that has ... more

    Advantages Advantages classy

Disadvantages Disadvantages dated, 25 more appealing

Rover continue to produce cars made in the UK and like the Almera I reveiwed recently this is another example of a family car being extensively revised. The revisions here extend to a new name (45 nee 400) and a number of stlying and mechanical revisions that I was hard pressed to identify. The 45 tries to differs from others in this class in terms of image - this is no family holdall, it's a mini limo. Well it tries hard anyway - the wood effect is better than any in the price range and the use of chrome is effective. The interior is dark and somewhat limited in space compared to more ... more

Advantages Advantages Nice colour, good safety features

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not suitable for drivers taller than 6' 4"

The first problem I had was getting into the drivers seat, I had to get them to lower the seat before I could get in, and even with the seat as far back and down as possible, I still had to adjust the back to an angle just short of uncomfortable to enable me to sit in the thing. My head still touches the roof… Now... What toys have we? There is an electric tilt and slide roof, remote central locking, and a radio cassette player. Thats it. Ok, it does have airbags in the front and ABS but the stereo is fiddly (small controls) and the removable face plate is flimsy, storage is not great, with a ... more

Advantages Advantages Good value for money.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor attachment of rear seatbelts

I have just purchased my second Rover - a Rover 45 Advantage. I have to say that if I could, I would have kept my Rover 400 Si, but needs must and it was about time to part company, so I changed to the 45. Its sleek line and smart interior make it a pleasure to drive in. The copperleaf red paintwork is pleasing and dazzling to the eye! This car performs well and gives great mileage to the gallon or litre should I say. I like the way Rover have thought out the interior details of the car and I have to say it is one of the easiest to keep in pristine condition. One criticism I would have is the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Excellent British Car

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Not many

We have had our Rover 45 for a few months now, and all is great. It is a very economical car, great looking and not too bad inside either. It starts first time in the cold, and doesn't take long to warm up. The power steering is not too light, so you have a nice feel of the car, and there is also driver and passenger air bags for added safety. The seatbelts are rather responsive though, when slowing down they pin you securely to the seat. I feel that the car itself is a little underpowered for the weight, and needs just a little more 'poke'. The only downfall I have experienced so far is that ... more

Advantages Advantages looks, features, price, economy

Disadvantages Disadvantages cabin space, could be more powerful

i wrote off my Citroen on a wet thursday night and needed a car for my job asap so looked on the internet and found a cheap rover 45 for 1895 with tax and mot, aircon, full electrics and alloys and sports pack, i drove all the way from croydon to uxbridge and saw it properly for the first time, it was a little bit more mature than the c2 furio and not as sporty looking but it had all the right stuff and a small enough engine to get insured on. I walked up to it and the dealer unlocked it, sat in it and it was fair enough and worth the money so i told him i had the cash and id take it there and ... more
