ROVER AND OUT

Advantages: COMFORT, STYLE, REFINEMENT, TRADITIONAL ROVER VALUES
Disadvantages: NOT MADE ANYMORE

...well. This is the second Rover I have owned the first being a old shape 1995 214 which was my Dad's but drove after passing my driving test at 17. Two and a half years later at the age of 19 and being very impressed with the 214 I decided to buy a Rover 75. I had a budget of under four grand so I decided to bite the bullet and buy a 75 from the auction. I knew pretty much what to look out for and finally bought a X reg 2001 1.8 classic with NO aircon ...
...in it, so why has Rover got such a bad image?. The facelifted 25,45, and 75 facelifted models had just been realised and sales were very poor. Although a bog standard you would never know from the outside or inside apart from the steel wheels inleu of alloys and missing a/c button. The interior still have the massive arm chair style velour piped seats which a very very comfortable, leather cream steering wheel, handbrake and gearknob. The interior ...

...the trouble that has surrounded Rover over the years, it's a mazing the company exists at all. Thinking back at all those awful cars the company made (or in fact all their cars), they really should have died a quick death a long tinme ago. The rule here is that Rover make crap cars. And to prove a rule you need an exception and the 75 is just that. Rover cars have lived under the pretence of having some sort of prestige for years now, thinking that ...
...But with the 75 Rover has finally created a car of real refinement, a car that actually oozes quality. Much of this is done by blatantly copying the Jaguar S-Type, but the 75 is a far better looking car. It also has a huge advantage over the Jag because production was over-seen by BMW, a company that knows a little more about producing prestige models than Ford. The car is superbly crafted from the outside and really does look like a car or real ...

You know what annoys me? Reviews written by people, who have never actually SAT in one of these, let alone driven one! And take "advice" from others. (You know who you are!) let me just start by saying don't believe the hype, parts for these cars are easily obtained and they are no worse than any other car out there for reliability or anything else, my mate has a 1 year old BMW 530 D and its been in for repairs 3 times in the past 2 months, and he ...
...around in ours. Yes there are problems with some of them, but as I already stated that is true with all cards, not just the Rover. Buy from a dealer with a warranty (yes there are plenty out there) and join the owners club and you should have many years happy motoring. Speaking of the owners club, there is a forum where you can ask questions and get technical advice for FREE! http://forums.mg-rover.org/ have a look. Right, our car is a 2003 1.8 ...

The Rover 1.8 club (automatic)has too many faults, i was going to buy one earlier this year but was advised not too by a good friend of mine, let me takes you through the faults that have been found on this overated vehicle. 1: Cam cover gaskets leaking due to torque relaxation in other words the bolts on the Cam Cover are always coming loose. 2: Head Gasket always blowing, causing oil and water to mix. this would be down to poor gasket design ...
...to a manufacturing problem as Rover are now fitting modified shocks on all new cars. 4: Rear doors stick and are difficult to open. Door latch pivot point sticking. 5: Cam Seals leaking. This causes cambelt oil contamination which can weaken and lessen life of belt unless changed. 6: Water ingress. Drain channels in bulk head are getting blocked and water is filling scuttle panel, then via heater into passenger footwell. Odd Cases: 1: Cental ...

A few months ago rover dealerships were offering the crazy deal of a 24 hour road test with unlimited mileage. All I had to do was arrange temporary comprehensive insurance through my broker, which surprisingly didn't cost anything extra. So armed with my temporary cover note and my driving licence I marched into the showroom one Friday morning to claim my prize. Yep, they hadn't been joking, 'here's the car', they said, 'its brimming with petrol ...
...it would have been rude not to, surely.... I had arranged the test drive to coincide with a trip (from Sheffield) to St. Albans and back in a day. So I reckoned that I would get a good idea of how the car was overall. Initially driving around in Sheffield, which is full of hills and pot-holed roads I wasn't impressed. The car is definately on the very heavy side of heavy and you really had to floor the accelerator to gain altitude. This was the 2 ...

Almost perfect only let down by harsh engine

Advantages: Solid great handling great brakes
Disadvantages: Poor acceleration, dealer support ? rearward vision

I have owned Rover group cars since the original early 1980s Rover 216. The 75 is more BMW 3 series than anything else nothing in common with the Honda-Rovers. The handling braking and traction are superb. Compared to my previous Rover a 623 it is wonderful to drive. The Rover 623 was powerful and very reliable but th most boring car I have ever owned, in contrast the 75 allways puts a smile on my face. Interior space and comfort is great only fault ...
...used in all my previous Rover I find the 1.8 K16 harsh and guttless, it totally lacks the sparkle of the smaller versions of the K series. If you want more power go for the Turbo version. The 75 would have been much better with the supper smooth 140ps 2 litre engine from the old 820Sli. The build quality on Longbrige Rover built 75 is much better than the earlier cars built at the BMW Oxford factory (for a short while BMW built 75 for Rover while ...

Rover 75 more like Rover 0.75- Don't touch it..

...my new company car, A rover 75 1.8 Conniseur SE with Highline Navigation in January 2000, approximately a year after the Rover 75 was launched. It was Wedgwood Blue and came with black leather seating, 6 CD Changer, electric seats with a memory that remembered just how you had positioned the seat. (A very useful thing as you will read later) The car oozed style and class and all the interior furnishings were well crafted and finished. the Navigational ...

On getting my car back, I felt that the car was just not the same anymore. Another 8 months went by and, would you believe it the same thing happened again. Once again whilst driving on a motorway the car gave up the ghost. I was Relayed once again to my dealer, who exclaimed that this was indeed ...

2nd Hand Buyer Beware

Advantages: Good image, very smooth ride & gears
Disadvantages: Bit thirsty, running costs

...used a company V reg Rover 75 for the last year. It's a fantastic car to drive - a dream on the motorways and, while a little bobbly on small twisty roads, a great experience. However, the head gasket went recently, with the first indication visible to me as the driver being rapid overheating. Subsequently over 2000 pounds of work had to be completed to restore it to it's former glory...one of those moments I'm glad I pay that company car tax! ...
...time I joined (it's the same year and model) and had similar problems. We've both also experienced imtermittant electrical problems as well. So if you're buying - check the mileage (this was all at about 55k) - and the year, it could well be newer models are unlikely to suffer these types of problems. If you're buying new I thoroughly recommend the car overall - it's like a cheap Jag ...

Wanted one sooner ,

Advantages: smooth ride , easy to drive , comfy , value for money , looks great .
Disadvantages: not found any yet , honest .

When the 75 first came out we could not afford one , that did not stop us wanting one .Well we now have one and it is everything we expected it would be . full leather all the toys , it is only an 1800 but the power output is quite impressive and we have to keep a check on the speed , the low noise in the cab is no indication of your speed , carpets are top quality and well fitted , sitting in any of the seats is like being at home in the armchair ...
...The car came with the usual 3 months warranty , and their assurance that everything had been checked , and was fine , we put ours in to the garage we trust and requested a full service and mot check , levels were low tyre pressures were uneven and the filters had seen better days . With the small problems sorted out we started to get to know our new car , well we have both driven the 75 for the last 10 months , and will not be going back to driving ...

Quick review of Rover 75 1.8

Fancied this for a long time. Bought a 1.8 T se connoisseur 2003 at auction last summer. Had it 7 months now. TOTALLY DELIGHTED WITH IT. Reasonable fuel consumption lots of toys, and doesn,t hang about. Leather, Aircon, heated seats etc. brilliant. Fitted a set of Goodyear Hydras, as recommended in AutoExpress tyre guide. Vast improvement to wet weather handling and braking . Don't be put off by negative reviews, I wasn,t and I,m not disappointed. ...

Review of Rover 75 1.8

The industry's best kept secret!

Advantages: A British styled BMW at half the price.
Disadvantages: The reputation of the 75 tends to be grouped with the other Rover cars.

With Rover now gone (albeit being brought back with a Chinese flavour) prices for these cars have fallen through the roof as dealers follow each other like sheep and mark down the selling prices. I have just picked up a 1999 1.8i model with 74k miles for £2999. For this money I've got the following; A beautifully finished and screwed together salon with more extras than most far east manufacturers are currently offering. People forget that this ...
...Regarding future supplies of spares, Rover sold the parts side a couple of years ago so spares will be available for many years to come and Rover dealers are still offering to service the cars as so most independant garages. If you want a classy car that is bundled with loads of extras (many of those are from the BMW parts bin) then I can strongly recommend the Rover 75, but keep it a secret or the prices will go up! ...
