I'm on my 2nd Rover 75 now, a saloon with all the bells and whistles...I had the estate version on recommendation of a truly knowledgeable friend in the motor trade and loved it..then the leather clad, sunroofed Connosieur turned up at a laughable price so I went for it...
Both versions offer a seriously cheap way to get a good strong car, wich is both comfortable and economical...mileage claims from fans vary between 45 and 55 mpg on the diesel ... ...nice to your local MG Rover supplier, and God help you if you pop the clutch..£700-£850 for the repair isn't going to make anyone laugh...but all in all this is a very underrated car for the money..the MG versions are the same vehicle with different badging and a few suspension tweaks..worth the extra money ? ...you decide.
Insurance is Group 10, spares are easy to find and it's always nice to fly the flag !
Most other Rovers ( especially 1.8 petrol ...

Advantages: Lovely Looking Car / Price / Economy / Reliability Disadvantages: Generally Associated With The 'Older' Driver / Boot Space / No Rear Wipe / Huge Rear View Mirror
I've always wanted a Rover 75 and so when an August 2001 example, a 2.0 litre CDT Classic SE came on the market for a mere £6500 with only 54k on the clock, I was down to at the showroom straight away.
It was a fine example and I needed no convincing to trade my Ford Mondeo in for this beauty.
I've had this car for 4 months now and it has been 4 months of blissful, relaxing motoring. Fuel economy is averaging out at around 45mpg which for a big ... ...Full Rover Service History and touch wood (which there is plenty off in the cabin) I have yet to experience any problems.
Being a heavier car, you can't throw it into corners as fast as other cars I've had but then again ... this is a Rover 75 and I don't think it's designed for that kind of driving. The Rover 75 likes to take you from A to B in comfort. The driving position is quite good, allbeit takes a while to find the right setting on the seat. ...

I've had the Rover as a company car for 30,000 miles. Difficult to fault it, although it will appeal to a certain type of driver, those who appreciate style, refinement, quality and a smooth ride rather than pace, aggression and flash looks. The engine is outstanding (a slightly modified BMW), being quiet, super smooth, reliable and frugal (47mpg for me in a mixture of urban, motorway and A road conditions). It's quicker than you think too, especially ... ...means 30-40 mph, when there is plenty of overtaking oomph ! The handling is sound, the ride good and the controls nicely weighted with a smooth gearchange.
The interior is sheer quality for many, old fashioned for others - take your pick. Certainly everything feels solid and there's no rattles. It's a pleasant place to be. On arrival a few bits of loose trim needed a bit of tidying up but nothing serious.
Lack of rear legroom and an only average ...

Advantages: Comfort, drive, looks, gadgets Disadvantages: faulty, poor dealer service, availability and cost of spares, alround visibility
I've owned my Rover for about 2 years. It's a good looking, comfortable car, which I enjoy driving. It's a pleasure cruising along the motorway but not much fun when parking or manoeuvering in tight spaces. It has a high waist restricting visibilty especially to the rear.
It's packed with gadgets and accessories - in fact with its light leather upholstery it looks better inside than outside. The CD player is a joy to listen to and the climate control ... ...engine, the third time actually dented the bodywork on their hydraulic ramp. Furthermore it often takes ages to obtain spare parts and when they do arrive they are often outrageously overpriced. I'm about to change my car - I don't think I'll buy another Rover - any suggestions? ...

This is probably the best car I have ever purchased, and I have to agree with all the other reviews on this site.It would get a full 5 star rating if I had not been plagued with parts reliability. I have owned the car since new July 2001, I have suffered the costs of coil springs all round, front fuel pump , mass air flow controller due to loss of power, ECU due to flood damage design fault ensure you remove the drain pipes below the bulkhead or it fills the bulkhead and kills your ECU cost £1000 to repair, and finally hydraulic clutch master cylinder cost £641 to repair, Other web sites point out most of these faults mentioned, I guess I purchased a car built on a Monday ...

Advantages: excellent for MPG, fast, good looks Disadvantages: quite expensive
the car looks awesome on the outside and beautiful on the inside. Behind the wheel the car seems stiff, extremely well put together which is reassuring when giving it some when cornering. The seats were very comftorble and although only the club model the trim was very nice especially the wood dash and the white speado. For a diesil it was very quite but gave a good growl when I decided to give it some in the outside lane on the motorway. Advantages: Economical, looks good Disadvantages: poor build quality
Ive had the Rover from brand new since last july .
The car is superb to look at and excellent to drive, however the build quality leaves a lot to be desired .
The car is less than a year old and the following faults have occured 1.The plastic door plate has broken 2.the plastic seat belt retainer on the rear seat has come away 3.The electric motor on the passenger seat has broken
this apart the car is excellent to drive and is fully loaded with ... ...an audible warnig
the Rover has a handy armrest in the centre for you cds or cassettes and a small stowage area for bits and pieces in the rear armrest .
It Has an onboard computer which tells you average fuel consumption - how many miles you have left to go how many miles you have done etc this is easily accessed from the Steering coulmn.
The one drawback I find is that the car has no rear windscreen wiper, which is no big deal really but as ...

Why?!, I here you cry...
Well just take a look at the Rover 75, it just oozes style and luxury that could only be incorporated by BMW. You can see this reflected in the buttons for the Sat Nav/Radio/CD player and the gear knob on both automatic and manual transmissions before even looking ... ...tenfold.
So OK, the Rover 75 had it's problems, big deal so do other car manufacturers including prestige companies such as Porsche and Jaguar. I remember when hundreds of the new Porsche Cayenne's were recalled because a fitting on the rear seat belts was incorrectly installed making them potential dangerous in certain circumstances.
As far as I know the things to watch out for on Rover 75's are that the petrol engines can blow head gaskets without ...
