Advantages: Locality, staff friendliness Disadvantages: Not open on Saturdays
I have been a customer of RBS (now RBS/Natwest) for just over 19 years, ever since my mum and dad helped me open my first bank account.
I can’t really say that I made a lot of use of the services that the bank offered until I left school and went to College. That’s when I really needed help, as most students do.
I stay in a small town, and I know all the staff in my local branch. So when I went to ask them about the services they ...

...it turned out to be Royal Bank of Scotland. Being a little biased and overpatriotic I thought it would be a good thing to join a Scottish bank. They even claimed that they would offer me 20 pounds if I joined them so how could I refuse. Sadly, this bribe payment never actually appeared in my account, despite all the complaints. Mistakenly, I continued to use them ever since, much to my disappointment on many occasions when dealing with them.

...my little experience of the Royal Bank of Scotland MasterCard service, which came to its crescendo last week.
Now I have had the Royal Bank of Scotland card for years and years. Eight or nine I guess. Customer service in all that time has been fine. It must have been because I cannot remember anything to tell you. My statements arrived on time; I never had any issues with missing payments, strange debits, the call centre, or the ever increasing ...

Advantages: All round a great service Disadvantages: None really
...got a mortgage from the Royal Bank of Scotland and opened a bank account with them and the last four years have been a revelation - finally a bank account that worked, managers that cared, staff that knew the meaning of service and a series of products that actually made sense - PARADISE!!
These days we've got an excellent relationship with our bank and they have worked closely alongside us to review our financial position and have made arrangements ...

...an account holder with The Royal Bank Of Scotland. (RBS) I am happy overall with the way in which they help me handle my account, and I have no hesitations in recommending the RBS to anyone else.
My Account

I currently have a Route 21 Account, which is for people aged between 16-21. This is normally a very popular account with students, as when you are in this account, you are entitled to many offers, ie free entry into loads of top ...

Bank Accounts
I joined the Royal Bank of Scotland in 1994 with a student account at their branch in Middlesbrough. Staff there were very helpful and explainned everything to a novice banker. The account carrys an interest free overdraft of up to £2000 which I didn't need until I became a post-graduate and had a lot of other debts. By then I was living elsewhere but quick phone calls to the bank always resulted in the overdraft being increased until ...

Advantages: Good variety of accounts Disadvantages: I have no regrets about not working for them anymore
...my working life at the Royal Bank of Scotland, now that I can look at it with a degree of detatchment I think I should write a review.
I joined the bank in 1989 when it was quite frankly very low down in the UK bank ratings. Financially they weren't doing very well (It was a hard time for all banks because of the burst in the property bubble, but we seemed to be particularly vulnerable) but it was on the whole a nice place to work, of course there ...

Advantages: Competitive accounts Disadvantages: High charges, unhelpful staff
I had been with the Royal Bank of Scotland for 11 years until recently. They provided my current account and also my credit card through RBS Advanta. I have though now changed to an internet bank but it is early days to judge them yet but when I do you will be the first to know dear reader.
So why did I change after so long. To have stayed with one bank for so long implies, and quite rightly, that I was happy with them for some time. I was. So ...

...it, my opinion of the Royal Bank of Scotland has greatly improved.
UPDATE 08.05.04
In the process of moving house I have required an International Money Transfer done - which has tested the RBS' knowhow. I was able to get a Booked Rate Transfer from Sterling into EUR, with a 0.3% commission charge - the booked rate was naturally competitive (please note that GBP 50,000 is the minimum order value for a booked rate). Of course the transfer itself ...

...I wrote this opinion the Royal bank were being nice to me but this has since changed. During the summer I was unable to get a job due to the massive unemployment and redundancies were I live, also my gran was diagnosed with cancer and died, this made job hunting a very low priority.
I phoned the bank and explained by situation and was told that since I had not used by card or cheques they would not charge me anything (as I was over my overdraft.) ...

I changed from Barclays to the RBOS 4 years ago and the service they have provided me with has been excellent.
They have a highline card which you can use that helps to prevent misuse of cards by thieves as it has a picture on the back.
The customer service is excellent and they always get back to you when they say they will.
I use both the on line and telephone banking that are in place and both help to make my banking much easier. I ...

...direct banking arm of The Royal Bank of Scotland is superb. I have been using the telephone banking for over two years and have not experienced a single fault. Each instruction is executed at the time I have specified, and small touches like a freephone balance check and mini statement are appreciated. The sharedealing facility is good value also.
I have recently started banking by pc, and the number of security features in place are reassuring. ...

...fees etc. I chose the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBOS) because it offered the highest overdraft limit for a student at the time (£1600). However since joining them I have experienced the worst customer service, horrible hidden charges and I basically believe that they are the worst bank ever.
First of all, unlike most modern banks, if you ever had a query or wanted to change address etc. you HAD to go to your home branch. Now as I study in Birmingham ...

Advantages: On-line Banking Disadvantages: Apalling customer service (Credit Cards)
I use On-line banking and that is fine. My Current Account and Credit Card (MasterCard) are both with the RBS Group. There appears to no liasion between these departments.
My problem has been with the "Customer Service" call centre in Southend-on-Sea (Essex ..NOT Scotland!!!) their "service" is absolutely appalling!! My simple request took 3 weeks to be dealt with. I had to go through five different levels of management, be subjected to rude and ...
