A posties view on Royal Mail!!!

Advantages: Deliver to most Destinations in uk the next day (if first class)
Disadvantages: Some mail lost or tampered with!!!

...with a few pointers on Royal Mail and its staff from someone that works in the network. First of all a day in the life of a postman: A postman starts his day at half five in the morning when he arrives at work the goes onto whats called group sorting where he sorts all mail for his delivery area into various walks. This can be anywhere between 15 and 40 different walks. He completes this in about 30-45 minutes depending on the amount of mail that ...
...Now a few services that Royal Mial provides: 1st or 2nd class: Standard and most popular sort of posting. 1ST class should arrive the next day if sent in uk and 2nd class the day after. In my time at royal mail 2nd class items do not take the extra day to get there and now i send all my post 2nd class and about 95% of the time its there the next day. Some destinations in the UK though can not be reached the next day so an extra day is needed. Not ...

...and sound to their destination. Royal Mail provides this service - but not 100% of the time. WHEN DID ROYAL MAIL START? In 1635, King Charles I opened Royal Mail to the public. Letters would be delivered to the recipient by a post-boy on a horse back and fore across the country and the recipient would have to pay the delivery charge (at the time 2d = 0.8p). In 1661 the first postal stamps were invented, to stop the post-boys delaying the mail. ...
...WHAT IS ROYAL MAIL? The Royal Mail is a brand of The Royal Mail Group Plc. They deliver 82 million items each day to 27 million addresses across the UK. With the rise of people internet shopping, I'm sure this figure will rise in years to come. WHAT SERVICES DO THEY OFFER? The most frequently used service they provide will probably be First Class Delivery. At the moment it costs just 30p to send a letter or parcel weighing up to 60g in the UK, ...

What would I do without Postwatch?

Advantages: My sweet young postgirl, they deliver most days
Disadvantages: Lost mail, customer services

...to have a go at Royal Mail, the daily newspapers do it constantly but to be honest they do manage to deliver my mail most days in rain, snow & sunshine. However two little true stories do make you look at Royal Mail through a different light. This time last year over a period of six weeks, six different items sent to my home went missing. Two replacement credit cards, one cheque book, £30 of gift vouchers & two items from work all went missing. ...
...problem more seriously, they sent Royal mail a letter (copied to me) demanding to know why these particular items had gone missing, asked Royal Mail to monitor all my mail for 2 months & do an internal enquiry. About three months later Royal mail concluded that no one had stolen my mail, it must have went missing & apologised. As far as I know nothing else has went missing since but I am still suspicious all the same. No sooner had that little concern ...

THE ONLINE AUCTIONEER'S BEST FRIEND

Advantages: Cheap, wide range of services, national coverage
Disadvantages: Lack of support for online retailers - big difference between standard and recorded mail

...If you mention the words Royal and Mail in the same sentence to the average Briton, you will be sure of a vociferous reply along the lines of, “Don’t talk to me about them!” Personally, I find much of this criticism to be unfair – my experiences of the postal service in the UK have been nothing but positive and I firmly believe that you still get excellent value for money, given that you can send a standard letter for 27p. ...
...which I have used the Royal Mail extensively to handle payments and products bought and sold on www.ebay.com. I’ve learnt a few things along the way too, so hopefully there’ll be some useful advice there too. I’ve also had a few thoughts on the whole “efficiency” debate that seems to surround the postal service in this country. POSTING AND DELIVERY First Class postage will send a letter up to 60g to any UK destination ...

...how much we rely on Royal Mail as one of our primary communication tools. Yes I have Internet access, multiple email accounts, a home telephone, a work telephone and a mobile phone but still I often communicate by post, always using the Royal Mail. Why? Royal Mail - Currently In A Strike Period!

Advantages: Print Postage Online
Disadvantages: Currently On Strike

Royal Mail is the UK's number one postal service, infact many people aren't even aware that other postal companies even exist. So you'd expect them to be pretty good at what they do, to fight of all the competition? Well actually no, there service is pretty poor at times. Unfortunately we are stuck in a position now whereby Royal Mail is so well established that it would be hard for any other companies to compete. In this review I will only talk ...
...experiences. So what does Royal Mail offer? Royal Mail offers a whole range of services. For standard mail (mainly letters and small items) they offer a first and second class service. ...have always sent them by royal mail registered post or by their special delivery service. Until recently there have been very few problems but over the past few months the deterioration in both of these services has been startling and as a result I have been forced to consider alternative despatch methods, something which just 12 months ago would have been unthinkable. I have decided to write this review because I wonder if any other ciao readers ...

Happy Birthday Royal Mail, Or Not...

Advantages: Wide range of services available, usually efficient, good way of communicating, relatively cheap
Disadvantages: Items being lost or stolen, harsh employers

...Along with the form from Royal Mail, there was another birthday card, this time with a deliberately torn corner – just enough to see there was nothing worth stealing! This time, it was from my Aunt and thankfully was only a card, as she is sending a present next week. The postwoman had noticed this and was very sympathetic. The card was in a see-through Royal Mail bag this time, apologising for it being damaged in transit. But it wasn't done ...
...a child myself, I adored Royal Mail. I got into penpalling big time and at one point, had 250 penpals all over the world! Since growing up and having my own kids, I don’t have the time or money for writing and posting so many letters, but I do my fair share of stamp buying and parcel sending. Let’s face it, there’s nothing quite like receiving a wonderful letter or a lovely gift in the post! So I’m not saying Royal Mail is ...

...people who dont know who royal mail are ad even fewer who have never sent or recieved a letter. Perhaps its the recent drop in service levels that has caused the latest uproar but its about time something was done. THE COST: The Royal Mail is the only company that can deliver packages under 10g for less than £1 (see the next section on monopoly) and so enjoys almost all the business in this market. It's currently 27p for a 1st class stamp and 19p for a second class one. A good value considering what has to be done to get your mail to its destination. There are extra costs if you fail to put ...

ROYAL MAIL - 1ST CLASS COST, 3RD CLASS SERVICE

Advantages: Nationwide service
Disadvantages: Delivery service very poor

...the run up to Christmas, Royal Mail were having delivery problems in the Bristol area, returning items to it's depot due to not being able to deliver items due to the fact that they were unable to get answers at the relevant addresses to be able to deliver signed for letters and packages. This caused big queues at the delivery offices, and huge backlogs. Just after Christmas, Royal Mail indicated that the problems had been sorted out. Unfortunately, ...
...Royal Mail have indicated that the problems have been resolved, they are still ongoing. 26p anyone

Advantages: Size of operation, delivers anywhere in the Uk for 26p, recorded delivery available
Disadvantages: Some lost parcels and letters, can take a while at peak periods such as Christmas

The Royal Mail is well known to all of us as the main company for delivering letters in the UK. You have two types of normal post known as first and second class. First class post is expected to be delivered the next day (if you post it before 9am!) and second class will take two to three days to arrive. What is not so well known about Royal Mail is that they actually have a government enforced monopoly on letter delivery here in the UK. By law ...
...But how well is the Royal Mail working? Having known some people who have worked for them I can tell you that their job is incredibly difficult and hard work, but they do normally get the letter to you on time. I have only witnessed one instance of a late letter that I have sent (it took 5 days to arrive) but that was because I failed to put a postcode on the bottom of the address. Oooops. Every other time it has arrived on time, and sometimes second ...
