Before you even consider bying anything from SSC you should read this and understand the problems I have had. They are the dodgiest company i have ever had the missfortune to deal with. The problems started from buyingthe machine. I phoned them up on a Friday and spoke to a sales guy who said it would be fine for me to pick up the machine from them in Birmingham on Satarday, i phoned them up Satarday morning to find thatthe machine wasnt ready. I have purchased two SSC computers over the past three years. Both times the delivery was very delayed so I wouldn’t trust the sales staff for delivery times. However when the computer eventually arrives you should be fine. The cost of the hardware is very low compared to other manufactures and this is sometimes reflected in the components used. All of the main components are built into the mother board which is fine if you are not intending to upgrade anything but can be annoying if you want to install a better sound or graphics card (mine has one PCI slot shared with ISA). Right ever had a problem with SSC/SSC Atlantic pc's and thire customer support. Yep. I tell you why, I used to work for them. The reason you think they aren't attempting to help you is that the managing director is tight and all he cares about is when he will have enough money to get his next big car while the rest of us are driving sheds. That is the honest truth... I know, we try our best, or better still better use past tense. Last September (1999) I decided to spend my much needed student loan on a new PC, so I searched through countless mags and SSC came out tops by a clear margin in terms of specification, price and options. One of the best aspects of the service was that the machines were sold as pure hardware and thus no waste of money "£1000 free software" which you dont want or need. Basically you select the hardware and then choose what software you want with it, e.g windows 95/2000. The options package is also good with the ability to specify exactly what you want. It's getting harder and harder to find a new PC that hasn't either got a brand-name markup or is made from inferior generic parts, but last year I stumbled upon SSC when I was looking for a new computer. I had never used them before, and so I was a bit hesitant at first when I saw their prices which were significantly lower than everyone else's. The computer I ended up getting was a Pentium III 500, Sound Blaster Live, surround sound, 17" Sony Monitor, 17 gig hard drive and 128 MB ram, a HP Deskjet printer and Windows 98. I recently purchased a computer. Have seached the electrical stores and the computer magazine I choose Sight & Sound Computers. This company offers good quality computers at value for money prices. I have saved over £500.00 by buying direct from them. Delivery was 7 days from receipt of my cheque. Express delivery ensured a 24hr delivery period. Even a problem with the motherboard was fixed by there own engineers in my own home. Even upgrades are available from them.
