Advantages Advantages a good all round policy suitable in particular for older dogs

Disadvantages Disadvantages none what so ever in my 8 year expereience

I’ve insured my dogs through Sainsbury’s for the past 8 years now and I thought I would share my experience with you. Despite the problems with my old dog’s health my experience has been very good with Sainsbury. Why I initially chose them I actually had a policy with Petplan but when my German shepherd hit 8, regardless of the fact I had only made 1 claim before, they ceased to insure her. I believe this is different now though. I was faced with trying to find a company that insured older dogs but didn’t charge such large amounts to make it pointless. My vet couldn’t help... they have one of ... more

Advantages Advantages Best vets fees I've found

Disadvantages Disadvantages Haven't found any yet

About a year ago we had to have our old dog put down, it was as I'm sure you will appreciate a heartbreaking experience, and one I thought I'd never have to or want to go through again. We had not taken any insurance out on Tara and a few months before she passed away she developed a growth on her side. After taking vetinery advice we left things as they were. The growth unfortunately got larger and our next visit to the vet resulted in the fees for removal and treatment being extortionate. There was no way we could afford the fees and in hindsight should have had the growth removed at the ... more

    Advantages Advantages None

Disadvantages Disadvantages Paying for a service they have no intention of providing.

What I didn't like: Dog diagnosed with life-long condition in January this year, supplied all required paperwork, 6 weeks after submitting claim and going through an awful customer service experience they will not process the claim, they want further paperwork that my vet cannot provide and through no fault of my own they will not process the claim. They have repeatedly failed to contact me on several occasions despite promises and after going around in circles for 6 weeks they will not make a decision on the claim despite full well knowing that I have no control over vet's computer systems ... more

Advantages Advantages Sainsburys' is a trusted name

Disadvantages Disadvantages If you have a sickly pet then there is a lot to think about.

I checked out the online approach for this service....the website is easy to use...it outlines all the relavent material you need. It gives the information needed to decide if Sainsbury's Pet Insurance is indeed the best for you and your pets needs. At the moment they are offering a 5% discount on premiums if you book it online...something to be considered... It offers you continuous cover for your pets illness or injury to the value of £6,500.... Here is an brief outline of what the Insurance covers.... It provids cover for veterinary fees, complimentary treatment, emergency boarding kennels ... more

Sainsburys have been a life saver, literally in my dogs case! My dog fell ill about a year after i took out the insurance and i was worried as to how they would react to the big claim i initially put in for. My dog has a terminal illness and if it was not for my pet insurance i dont know what i would have done. Sainsburys have been brilliant!! Very understanding, efficient and i have had no problems with the endless claims i have had to make over the past 2 years. I decided on sainsburys due to the £6,500 vet fee cover, however i know that since i signed with them they have increased this to ... more

Advantages Advantages Straight forward claims form - very quick service

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None!

I have used Sainsbury's pet insurance for my dog for the last 5 1/2 years. I have made two claims. The first when my dog was aged 2 for a foot injury. The vets themselves filled in the claim form and Sainsubury's paid them direct. The vets were happy to see that my pet was insured by Sainsbury's. The second time was a couple of weeks ago and it was over 4 hundred pounds. I had to pay for the bill myself then claim the money back. The main waiting time I had was the length of time the vets took to complete their part on the claim form which was nearly 2 weeks!!! I know this as I kept checking ... more

2 Stars Quick review of Sainsbury\'s Pet Insurance by poomarti 16/06/2007
When I took out Sainsbury's pet insurance I was pleasantly surprised about the first years premium. Unfortunately it didn't stay that way. After the first year was over the premium trebled! I only found out because I checked my bank statement. When I contacted them they said they will contact the underwriter and get back to me. They actually offered to take £50 of the premium, but it was still more than double of what I paid the previous year and I didn't even make a claim! I've now found a better insurance and I save £100 over the year!

I would not recommend Sainsburys Pet Insurance. Twice they have delayed payment in repect of a cruciate operation on my dog (he has had two - a common problem with retrievers). On each occasion they 'overlooked' my claim. On the first occasion it took 6 weeks after I had contacted them to extract the money from them and on this, second, occasion they have now asked for a full medical history after sitting on the claim for 5 weeks. It is quite a lot of money - around £3000 just for the operation - which as a pensioner I can ill ... more

    Advantages Advantages Very cheap

    Disadvantages Disadvantages VERY high excess

Sainsburys website is very easy to use, and the form is very quick to fill out. I was given a quote which is almost half the annual cost of my Direct Line insurance. BUT.... Be careful here, Sainsburys bury the excess information very deep. When I checked, it was £50 or 15% of the claim, whichever is higher. That means that if your pet develops a serious illness or is involved in a serious accident you could be left with a bill for literally hundreds of pounds. As a comparison, my Direct Line insurance has a flat, one-off excess charge of £35. The bottom line is: when you're comparing pet ... more
