Advantages Advantages Only £1.20, good recipes

Disadvantages Disadvantages Coupons only useful in Sainsbury's

I was at the checkout queue in my local Sainsbury's when I was faced with a row of magazines sporting a rather lovely picture of strawberries. Now I am a complete victim of advertising and the first thought that popped into my head was go back to the fruit and veg department and buy strawberries. Faced with having to re queue I decided to buy the magazine instead. I am not a big magazine reader but had come across Sainsbury's magazine before as my Mum regularly buys it. So although I am reviewing the June 2006 issue, I will attempt to point out any regular features. ** The Front Cover ** On ... more

Advantages Advantages Only one pound, delicious recipes, interesting articles

Disadvantages Disadvantages Money off coupons are mainly for Sainsburys only

I started buying the Sainsburys magazine over 18 months ago whilst doing my shopping at Sainsburys (where else). I initially bought it on impulse, thinking "if it's no good, then it was only £1, so I won't have wasted much". But now I'm a true fan, I can't wait for the next issue to come out - new recipes, interesting articles, what money I can save at the checkout with their generous coupons, interior design ideas... You would be very, very mistaken to think that this is a magazine for expert cooks, or old women, or fuddy-duddies - I'm only 26, and to me it is one of the best reads around ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Don't read till you've unpacked or you may get engrossed and forget to do it

‘Happy Birthday to you Happy Birthday to you Happy Birthday dear Sainsburys Magazine Happy Birthday to you.’ Now I can’t sing so it’s just as well this is written and not sung as you would all have exited by now! Sainsburys Magazine celebrated its tenth birthday with a special issue in May 2003. The idea for the magazine was conceived 10 years ago after observing Delia Smith and her desire to communicate to people who wanted to learn to cook or just brush up on their cookery skills. Communication was the key and a magazine was seen as the ideal vehicle in which to tell ... more

    Advantages Advantages Loads of recipes

Disadvantages Disadvantages Um....you'll be late for school!

I normally do my shopping at Asda 15 miles away, but a couple of times a week, I find myself in Sainsbury’s, buying milk, bread, or anything I’ve generally forgotten in my normal weekly shop as it’s only a mile from home. About 6 months ago, while the kids were at school, I found myself here once again. I’d only gone in for milk, and ended up with a basket full of stuff. As I was going through the checkout, I noticed the Sainsbury magazine on the shelf at just £1.20. Wicked thoughts of leaving the housework, and sitting down with a mag, biscuit, and a cup of tea went raging through my head. I ... more

Advantages Advantages Covers more than just food

Disadvantages Disadvantages No discount for subscribing

Getting hold of this sometimes is difficult, as I no longer use Sainsburys to do my main shopping, so it usually means a special trip just to buy the magazine. Compared to other supermarket magazines, it is far superior, the quality and content is fantastic. It covers things like the latest offers, coupons for money off , recipes and new items instore, bothe food and non food.I do however feel the £1.20 price tag is a little high, and perhaps could be discounted for nectar card holders. I also feel there ought to be some form of discount for taking out a subscription, like other foodie ... more

We picked up this magazine the other day in the Supermarket, we don't have a local Sainsbury's but it's definitely a good supermarket and has loads of great food so we like to make the effort to travel a little further to go there. We got our magazine for free, from the sounds of it I don't think everybody does. I can't remember why, I think it was because we bought more than 3 items, I'm sure the guy on the checkout said - 'it's free now i've scanned this' as he scanned the third item of shopping.... Anyway, I would have gladly paid for it, it's fantastic to say the least. I wasn't really ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy reading, colourful, simple and free!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Fashion only for women

As a Nectar member, only for the points so i can have a blow out at christmas, I quite often recieve some free leaflets from sainsburys, which get filed immediatly in the bin. Last week I recieved a new, and free, magazine 'Fresh Ideas' through the post from Sainsburys and duly I sent it towards the bin pile, only for it to be rescued by my girlfriend who proceeded over the past week to leave it on the sofa at every given opportunity. In a moment of disgust at the lack of programs on the TV, I decided to give it a read and was pleasently surprised. Leaving out the skin care bits (Coz my skin ... more

I don't always shop at Sainsburys as it's not my most convenient supermarket, but if i'm in there I usually treat myself to Sainsburys Magazine. It's easy to overlook when you're busy queing at the till. You're busy shuffling along, sorting your goods, maybe nosing into other peoples trolleys. Don't tell me i'm the only one doing that. I've seen you looking at mine. Next time reach out for the magazine as you pass. It's good value at £1.20. It's heavy and glossy. It definately looks and feels like a good quality magazine. This month it has 218 pages and even though there are adverts sprinkled ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages sometimes hard to find a copy - they go quickly or aren't displayed well

I found the sainsburys magazine to be a good read compared to other supermarket magazines. But I would only pick it up at the checkout if it was obviously on sight - I wouldn't go out my way or ask staff for it. However saying that it is colourful, glossy and as well put together as normal magazines and contains easy to follow recipes and interesting features along the topics of home, garden and cooking. a good point is that it contains meals on a budget which can be pulled out and stored. The issue I read had a burger recipe to feed four for a fiver and they actually tasted very nice - it was ... more
