Advantages: Far cheaper than an inkjet for black & white stuff Disadvantages: Toner is very expensive but you can use refills!
...lucky enough to find a Samsung ML-1510 for around £40 on ebay, which I snaffled up quickly!
It came with a toner cartridge but NO USB CABLE (which is stated on the box and was also stated in the auction) so you'll need to get one of them!
Although it is not "plug and play" compatible, installing the drivers is a piece of cake, just pop the disk in and it's done! It is automatically installed on most distributions of Linux in my experience (Debian, ... ...printing quality I have no problems whatsoever. On the first cartridge I had it on toner saving mode the whole time, and it was fine for usual run-of-the-mill printing. If I needed slightly blacker blacks for CV's and whatnot then you just put the toner save off (and it prints at 600 dpi rather than 300 dpi)
The previous comments regarding the toner cartridges is very true, they are extortionately priced! However, unlike refilling inkjets which ...

In the late nineties, a standard black and white laser printer would easily cost in the region of £200, however as the technology is becoming more widely available, and cheaper to produce the cost of production ... ...You can also use the samsung toner saving application which supposedly reduces toner usage by up to 40%. But such modes really only be applicable to businesses, as im sure 5,000 print outs will be well enough for home use, you'll find yourself replacing the toner catridge little more than once a year. Another thing to consider with laser printers, is the drum unit. Drums need to be replaced every 20,000 or so pages, and cost more than the printer ...

Advantages: Low initial Cost & Efficient in ink Use Disadvantages: Expensive Toner
As a student who rarely has a need for colour printouts and for the most part, someone who prints out text simply because it's easier to read on paper, a cheap laser printer seemed a great improvement over my, slow, old, ink guzzling ink-jet.
The 1510 fit the bill perfectly. At the time it was priced at a bargain £49.99 making it comparable to many inkjets. It's clearly the cheapest and potentially the smallest laser out there. I purchased online ... ...effort. I was very surprised. The pure weight of the machine is an indication of its quality, and it looks good too. The undercarriage type paper tray (250 sheets) is a feature usually left out of cheap models, but extremely useful as it makes the printer look much neater (unlike some of the older models where paper sticks out of the top). The automatic cooling fan and automatic power save features also make it feel like you've bought something that ...

Advantages: Outstanding Value for Money, Free USB Key Offer Disadvantages: Entry level model, lack of USB cable
My purchase of the Samsung ML-1510 laser printer was, as indeed all my purchases of computer equipment are, a matter of necessity rather than decadent want. My hand was forced as I was faced a long summer of job application and dissertation writing; and my vintage Canon BJC 4300 ink-jet printer became: 1. Financially unsustainable – The amount of material I am printing would have forced me to spend literally hundreds of pounds on cartridges.
2. Frustratingly ... ...but an irresistible offer from Samsung destined me towards the ML 1510. If you were to buy the ML 1510 before 30 July 2004 you would receive a free Samsung 32MB USB Key; having considered buying a USB key or memory stick (as it is also know), this was the clinching factor in my decision. To qualify for the offer you need to fill in and print of the relevant form from www.samsung.co.uk and send it along to the stated address along with proof of purchase ...

Advantages: Robust and dependable with admirable longevity Disadvantages: Slightly noisy on start-up
We bought our Samsung ML1510 quite a few years ago from ebuyer.com, when my wife was doing her BA in English and Combined Arts. At the time she needed a reliable printer with a prodigious rate of output for all the essays and literary critiques, not to mention the dissertation. Previous to that we had used an Epson inkjet, but this cost us a lot of money with replacement cartridges as attempting to refill them was a messy experience and none-too-successful ... ...for the ML1510, but I recall it was on offer and was certainly less than £60. The bizarre thing is that replacement toner cartridges can cost as much, if not more than the device itself! However, it pays to box clever here as you can actually re-fill the carrtidge with toner, which is quite easy to source from the web. Eventually you will have to get a replacement cartridge and I have usually got these from Cartridge World (who recycle/re-condition ...

Advantages: Small and easy to use Disadvantages: Costs more to buy a new toner than the printer
...work had just purchased some Samsung printers for use in our offices and they seemed good for the money.
I have used it for printing photos as well as multi-layered text (watermarks) and always get great results. Of course you won't get the same kind of quality with pictures as a £200+ printer would give with a higher resolution but it does itself proud. The printer has an easy slide adjuster for different size paper and envelopes which makes it ... ...new x64 edition of Windows, Samsung have now released drivers for this printer (available via Windows / Microsoft Update) which many budget printers don't yet have as manufacturers are waiting for Vistas' release next year and as such would not work.
The specs for the toner say it will print around 2000 pages before running out but the 1510 includes a Toner Saving Mode which helps to increase this a bit. Unlike an inkjet cartridge Tomer is actually ...

- Overview -
This printer is small in size, but still packs a punch. As a lazer printer, it can print out huge documents very quickly, saving alot of time when it comes to printing. Aswell, it also saves alot of money, as it doesn't require the amount of ink that conventional printers need. Size wise, this printer is small and compact, making it easierly fit on my desk. This printer has gotten me out of many sticky jams with documents, and hasn't ... ...with being amazing efficent, this printer also looks very pleasing. With its rounded corners, and sleek feel, along with its creamy colours, contrasting on the black insides, it is really a thing of beauty as printers come. I certainly would choose this over other printers that did the same, purely for the looks.
- Efficency -
The speed of this printer is great. I can print out entire documents with no time at all, because it is a quick printer. ...

I came across this at dabs.com and running and was quickly snapped up at £54.69 inc. postage.
I ordered it Monday 1/6/04 and was up and running by 11am the next day.
It won't dissapoint, easy to use and set up and its quite quiet compared to my C62, printing a test page by holding the cancel button down for a few secs. was clear and crisp, a bigger surprise came when printing a test page from it's menu, the very small print (was it 2pt - smallest ... ...Not tried graphics yet, this printer would save a huge amount s compared to ink jets, the toner being easily and cheaply available and the in tray holds half a ream of paper.
For £55 certainly it won't dissapoint , my only fear is if there's a coloured version round the corner. I Certainly recomend the ML1510 ...

I purchased the Samsung 1510 from P.C. World for an amazing £43.99 as they were on special offer. What a bargain. I edit and print a newsletter for my club and required an inkjet printer to speed up the process. I purchased the Samsung 1510 as it was cheap but on printing the first newsletter on this machine found that the quality was excellent - just like a book or newspaper. I print 150 pages at a time and even with a black and white picture on ...

This is an excellent printer.
It is fast, compact & highliy efficient and cost effective. The Toner Save mode prints excellent quality pages but at an extremely cost effect price. Having only had inkjet printers before this was definitly worth it.
I saved the cost with the free toner cartridge that it would have cost me just to keep refilling my old Lexmark Inkjet printer.

Great for students or home and small office environments. I print lots of electronic journals for university work & was spending far too much before, now it's cheaper than photocopying them in the library and far more convenient.
It's also extremely fast, much faster than inkjets, which makes this a perfect, entry-level laser printer. ...
