D500- A technophobe's guide

Advantages: fantastic features for such a small phone
Disadvantages: not entirely user friendly

INTRODUCTION I have read some cracking reviews on this phone, and they even managed to persuade me to buy one. I've had mine for a few weeks now and I thought I'd let you know what I think of it. I have decided to write a technophobes guide to the phone. I don't really understand all that technical stuff and I think there are plenty of reviews covering that side of things that give all the technical info you need. So I'm going to let you know the ...
...terms. I've broken it down into categories, so you can just look at the bits that interest you rather than trawling through all of it. I'll start off with a general overview of the phone. GENERAL OVERVIEW The D500 is a sleek little dark metallic grey mobile phone that opens with a slider instead of a flip up front. This is a nice feature, it opens smoothly and automatically locks when the slider is closed. This stops you from pressing buttons on ...

...little number from Samsung. Now Samsung are not a make I would ordinarily consider, but this particular phone has been the subject of rave reviews on the web, so I figured I would splash out. How does it look? -------------------------------- In a word, gorgeous. It is a very small phone, dominated by a huge screen. It is finished in a high quality glossy black plastic (sadly not metal). On one side, you are greeted by volume buttons, and on the ...
...Call quality is excellent, with Samsung using a proprietary call enhancement technology - that really works! I can defiantly notice an improvement in call quality when this feature is switched on. Storing names and numbers is a cinch too, with the phone enabling you to store 4 numbers, email, address, photo and other various bits of information. Of course, when the phone rings, you are greeted by the caller's ugly mug thanks to the photo-ID. Other ...

...be honest I'd heard that Samsung phones weren't that good and were very fragile. I took a look on the Internet to see what other people thought of this phone and to see if what I'd heard was true. It wasn't and there was nothing but praise for this phone so I decided that I'd get one. The problem was that I didn't want to pay for it, and was reluctant to change my number or move from Vodafone. So here are all the details about my sexy new phone. I'll start with the looks, as this is what drew me towards it in the first place. Appearance ========= It is very stylish phone. Small (measuring only 9cm high at it smallest before you slide it open), with a huge display. Mine is black, ...

...soon as I saw the Samsung D500 advertised, I thought that I would wait for them to be available in the UK. Then I thought, hang on a minute, what if we are getting all the rubbish in the UK? I have often travelled to the continent only to see what appeared to be more sophisticated phones than we have! So when the Samsung D500 had been out in the Uk for sometime, I visited Amsterdam and set about searching for a phone over there instead. In Amsterdam ...

I got this phone from my parents as a birthday present and i loved every second of it. I never knew that i would ever get this. This happened quite a long time ago but i could remember every bit of it. When i first got this phone, it was very easy to use. There was no complicated way of accessing files or folders. Samsung D500 Mobile Phone

Advantages: Small, has many features
Disadvantages: Screen, Can be a little fiddly

I bought this phone well over a year ago on a contract with O2 and it is still going strong, although it is probably a little out dated and probably doesn't look as stylish as it did when it was first released. The phone comes with a lot of features, some of which you can probably find on most current mobile phones (such as the vibrate alert, colour screen and java games). But it also boasts a number of extra features which at the time of release ...
...all of them in a single handset. The phone is capable of connecting to other devices (whether that be another phone, computer or hands free) via either Bluetooth or infrared. Both of these are easily activated/deactivated via the phones menu. However, for you to connect to a PC (or laptop), you will need to purchase some sort of Bluetooth dongle or similar device and software for the computer to be able to support Bluetooth. I have not had any problem ...

...a 1.3 megapixel camera. How Samsung fitted all this into such a small phone I really dont know!! The phone slides open rather than being flipped, which makes it feel very professional. I would almost recommend this phone just to hear the satisfying clunk it makes when the phone slides open/shut. You can even set the phone to make a sound when you slide it open and shut which is a very neat feature, but you will find after a few weeks it will get ...
...into your files. Well done Samsung for a brilliantly simple Bluetooth phone. There are also other features such as calculator, a superb calender/organisor, convertor for weights, currencies etc. This is one annoying feature of the D500 though. The currency converter does not have Pounds Sterling as a defined currency so unless you are using this in a foreign country and do not use pounds at all, this feature is useless. There are 3 games on the ...

...the new phones but the Samsung D500 seemed to perform well in all the reviews I read so surely they were not all telling fibs. Well I'm pleased to say they were not. When your used to a once a week recharge, a daily recharge of the 6230 and spv was a complete pain in the a** however the Samsung does at least go about 4 days before charges so it is okay for the business user. As for the features well it has most of what people need these days. ...
...for some reason the screen resolution doesn't do the pictures justice when they are printed or downloaded to a pc. The video function is cool for taking short movies with sound but a snag I found is that the video format is not recognised by windows media player or real so you can only playback on the phone unless you purchase the player software online. Storage has no expansion facility but with 80mb built in this should be plenty for most users ...

...extensively, I decided that the Samsung D500 would be the phone for me, paying £50 (after some haggling with the salesman) on upgrade for the privilege. I must admit to having some reservations about purchasing a Samsung as I had battery life and call quality problems with the A300 as well as the screen cracking. Despite all this I decided that I would go with the undoubtedly feature-rich D500 and put my reservations aside. With some excitement I ...
...my concerns with purchasing a Samsung phone was the poor call quality I had on the A300. However I needn’t have worried as the quality is excellent, no doubt the ‘advanced call clarity’ feature comes into play, as it detects background noise and increases the clarity of the call. No idea how this works, but I have enjoyed crystal clear calls so far. Texting on this phone is easy as it is T9-enabled. Once you have added in the words that you use ...

...but decided on trying the Samsung D500 first. I kept it. Why? Its a very dinky phone, and very stylish - i have the black version and its looks excellent. I had looked at the Sony Ericsson V800 last year in black, but that in comparison - although it was black plastic too - didn't look as nice as this Samsung. It looked plasticy and toy like. The D500 is in another world entirely. The phone is a slide up and has a very sexy slide mechanism. It ...

I'm not sure the camera is *as* good as the Nokia considering the jump in megapixels, but its still good. There is also a video recorder that lets ...

Samsung is stylish and very functional. The SGH-D500 model is a completely new type of samsung phone, but of course you wont be without tackily coloured interface, voice ringing melodies and all the other well known samsung characteristics. Samsung D500 Well the Samsung D500 is quite an awesome phone; it has the ability to do pretty much whatever you want well excluding things like making a cup of tea of course.
