Advantages: Inexpensive, light Disadvantages: won''t stand up to hard wear and tear
...owned a couple of other Samsung camcorders in the past - both bought off ebay as 'spares or repair (note to self - they don't seem especially robust) I was, however, able to get them working after an hour or so effort without buying spares.
Having been reasonably assured by this I bought my latest Samsung camcorder in a similar state - but discovered that the ribbon cable for the display was broken. Whilst I'm pretty handy with a watchmakers screwdriver ... ...although looking similar to other Samsung models is slightly smaller than the ones I already have, so don't go buying this thinking your old accessories are guaranteed to work.
If you want a hassle-free camcorder, you might be best to avoid this model. Even dismantling it proved to be a little more complicated than what I'm accustomed to, and some of the more easily broken parts (including the LCD ribbon cable) require a complete stripdown to replace.

...proprietary square-shaped connector, although genuine Samsung units can be had for about six quid on Ebay.
Other cameras in the 35n range offer more features, such as remote control, memory stick slots and USB connectivity, but as I'm not interested in that, the absence isn't a great loss.
My VP-D351 cost me about £25 - I bought a couple of 'spares or repair' units second hand, replaced the ribbon cable for the LCD screen, and transplanted the ... ...the ones on my other Samsung (a VP-D130) - if you're buying this to re-use your old power cells, best to check to see if they're compatible.
I CAN confirm that the camera will happily replay footage taken on other brands of mini-dv cameras, so if you just want a cheap means of transferring tapes to PC this is a worthwhile means of doing it. Navigating the menuing structure is reasonably straightforward - a combination of 'menu' buttons and 'left/right/push' ...

Quick review of Samsung VP-D351
I dont know what the other guy is talking about - the camcorder is firewire, so it just connects to any computer. Its DV tape, so it captures at realtime (the same as any other dv camera in the world), it has a great LCD screen, which for the price its at is pretty amazing (the sceen actually picks up the depth of colour I need in my shot) and the one thing they did get right is that it is really really simple to use. It only breaks if you drop it, which in most cases would break anything electronic I have ever used. Superb product, Cheap as chips, the only camera I have ever used with one hand - blindfolded :) ...

This camcorder, is a poor buy, as most features are satisfactory to poor! If you are interested in purchasing, I would deffinetly reconsider, as you would be paying good money for a useless product. Also, its a lot of trouble trying to hook it up to the computer, as the downloading time is endless, and the software, that comes with it is quite inadequit. The casing of the camera, is quite breakable, and the lcd screen does break very easilly. As ...
