Scattergories

Advantagesgood fun, will last years

Disadvantagesnone

"...my sister bought me the Scattergories game as it was something we had both talked about and agreed we enjoyed playing. We like to play board games when we get together as I think it is a great way to spend time with family and so I was really happy when she bought me this game! This is my review of it! ==What is it?== Scattergories is a Hasbro game where basically you roll a die and are then given a letter to work with as well as a card and you ..." Read review

Scattergories - a game of categories!

Advantagesgood fun game won't be outdated

Disadvantagesnone

"...play on words - for scattergories think categories! The aim of the game is to think up original ideas in many varied categories all depending on a starting letter. It is a game for two to six players, and at the start of the game each player is supplied with an answer sheet, a pencil and a category card. The answer sheet has three columns to write answers as the aim is that three rounds will make up a game! There are twelve category lists in ..." Read review

This will drive you scatty!

AdvantagesYou will love it!

DisadvantagesIt will drive you mad!

"I would be fair to say that we like our board games, in fact I would go as far as to say we love them. When we get together with friends and we have a few sherberts, then the competitive juices flow and the board games come out. This game has to up there as one of our favs. We never get bored with it and anyone we have introduced to it have gone and bought it. The funny thing is that before we were given it as a pressie by my big sis and her partner ..." Read review

Innuendoes and Naughty Words

AdvantagesAddictive, fun and great fun for all the family

DisadvantagesNot easy for younger children

"...become rather battered. We have had Scattergories for some years now, and I think I paid about £20 for it. I have seen it more recently in toy stores, so I know it is still available. Scattergories is a word game with a twist. This is a great game to play either as a family, or after a few drinks, when hilarious results can be produced. I shall do my best to explain it all to you….. The game can be played with two to six players. CONTENTS ********* 6 ..." Read review

Two thumbs up, fine holiday fun!

AdvantagesEasy to learn, can be adapted to accommodate more players/timescale etc

DisadvantagesLoud, offputting timer

"Even though I'm (techncially) a grown-up now, my mum and I still enjoy playing board games, but I for one find them terribly expensive. So we tend to scout charity shops where we've been able to pick up as-new games for as little as £4, which is what this cost from the PDSA shop last week. I was pleased to find it as I've played in the past and we enjoy word games. After ensuring everything was included before we left the shop, we went home to ..." Read review

Brain power can be so hurtful

Advantagesgreat family / group game

Disadvantagesnone

"Scattergories . Many moons ago ( too many for my liking ) , while a youthful junior school lad , on a wet day a group of us would play a simple game where we chose various subjects ( eg boys name , car type etc. etc. ) , then went about giving an example for each subject , starting with A and going through as much of the alphabet as time would allow . Examples not matched by the other players would score 2 points while matched answers scored 1 ..." Read review

Scattergories Improves Scatterbrains

AdvantagesGets your brain working, chances to be inventive, uses your general knowledge

DisadvantagesSome rounds can be a little challenging - but that makes it more fun!

"Scattergories - the timeless family game. The title is in fact a bit of a lie. It's not timeless as there is timer involved, but still, you get the gist! (Sorry for the TERRIBLE joke!) I've had this game for years and loved it as a child and I know my mother and grandmother love it too, so it really is a family orientated game that can provide lots of entertainment as you laugh at each others answers. For those that haven't come across it ..." Read review

Things that smell. Starts with 'S'. Heh heh...

AdvantagesFun. Kinda.

DisadvantagesYou could sort of just make it up yourself.

"There was a pen-and-paper game (before pens and paper were obsolete and we all had the internet wired into our foreheads) called "Country, county, town" that my granddad used to make us play. You were given a random letter of the alphabet and had to list a country, county and town - plus sundry other dull categories - that began with that letter. Points were then awarded for (1) if you came up with anything and (2) (Extra point!) if you came up with ..." Read review

Great game for all the family

AdvantagesEasy to play

Disadvantagesnone

"...found they tended to struggle. Scattergories generally has everyone in stitches because of all the dodgy answers that come up (in particular the older generation of our family tend to have a dirtier mind!!!). You can decide yourself how much cheating is allowed, we generally let some cheating take place or we have world war 3 on our hands. ==Overall== I highly recommend this game to you. It is easy to play, doesn't take long to set up and can be ..." Read review

Great game

AdvantagesEncourages interaction between the players, rules are simple.

DisadvantagesAfter the answer pads had run out I could not find anywhere that supplied replacements, quite a lengthy game if you play it with the full twelve rounds.

"I'd never heard of this game until someone recommended it to me a few years ago as a good game for Christmas. It basically involves a number of cards listing twelve different categories in each section (i.e. a brand name, a colour, a famous person). The letter dice is then thrown and then you have 3 minutes to write down something from each category beginning with that letter. When the three minutes is up each person takes it in turns to reveal their ..." Read review

Pencils at the ready...go...

AdvantagesAddictive word game for group of people

DisadvantagesCompetitive!!

"Scattergories "THE GAME OF QUICKFIRE ANSWERS AGAINST THE CLOCK" Another favourite which has made a "big style" appearance over the festive season; there HAS been a lot of snow! Scattegories can be played with any number of people (obviously not just one) and is recommended for age 12 upwards, because you have to be able to think of appropriate words quickly. THE PACKAGING This comes in an orange box with Scattegories written on the front ..." Read review

AHH PANIC

Advantagesbit of a laugh, sometimes rude ;)

Disadvantagesbit boring after the 4th round

"...that are timed extremely stressful, Scattergories is no exception. The idea behind the game is that you score points if you think of a word no one else thinks of, in relation to a specific category, determined by the letter shown on the die. Phew! sounds a bit complicating? It's not really, the fact that my family manages to play it means that most people would be able to understand it. You are have about a minute for each round and you are timed ..." Read review

|Scatter- brained

AdvantagesGets you thinking

DisadvantagesIt has annoying ticking clock

"Scattergories is a game that was bought for me and my wife a couple of Christmasís ago and is one of those games that come out of our cupboard every now and then when we have friends around. The basic rules of the game sound very simple, but when you go to play the game you will find it is not as easy as it sounds. The game starts off with everyone having a piece of paper that contains three rounds on it, and a selected list of categories i.e. ..." Read review

The BEST test of your brain!

AdvantagesAlways interesting! and frustrating at the same time if other people have the same word as you you lose points!

DisadvantagesThe timer is very noisy and can distract you!

"My sister got this game for her birthday a few years ago, and it is still a family favourite now!! We've always loved word games because they are never the same, and can get very interesting and competitive. This game is a lot of fun, and is a good test of your brain power!! One of it's best qualities is that you have to constantly outwit the other players by thinking of answers that a) they don't have and b) are not the obvious choice!! It really ..." Read review

let the good times roll

Advantagesreally funny for all occasions

Disadvantagesnone that I can think of

"Scattergories has to be my favourite board game of all times because no two games are the same. You are give a list of catergories and then the die is rolled you then have 1 minute to get as many answers as you can to the catergories beginning with the letter that was rolled. It is a great laugh when everyone has to read out their answers as there are so many wacky things you can put. This game could also help practise spelling and phonetics whilst ..." Read review
