Story:
The game starts out with a medium-length intro. It shows you (the character has whatever name you give him, if not given a name he is called "the boy") in 1995, just coming out of a movie theater. Your dog chases a cat into an old abandoned laboratory. You follow him ... ...gameplay is where similarities to Secret of Mana can be seen. The menus are organized in rings, the bosses look similar, you acquire new weapons but it is just like upgrading in Secret of Mana. However, there are a few more unique aspects. Weapons are leveled up by usage, and you level up also. Your dog serves as a partner in the fighting and you can play as him as well. His "weapon" (his bite) levels up as well. Advantages: RPG by Squaresoft, Brilliant playability Disadvantages: Lacked a few feature of previous games
...but doesn't follow on after Secret of Mana, so must be treated like a seperate game and not be compared too critically to the good bits in Secret of Mana (SoM).
Story
A lot of rpg's suffer in this department and this game isn't without it's faults. The game is all about a boy and his dog who has been accidently thrown into a fantasy world created by a scientist for recreational use. Throughout the game you are attempting to find away out and you ... ...out after another good game Secret of Mana, made by the same company, it borrows not only part of the name but also other aspects from SoM. The onscreen display is very similar as is the armour and weapons. Instead of upgrading weapons new ones are aquired instead, same goes for the armour. Advantages: Follow Up To The Amazing Secret Of Mana, With A Western Release Disadvantages: Created By A Completely Different Design Team
[SUMMARY] Secret of Evermore is an Console RPG, a mix between an adventure game and a story, you progress through the worlds and the story by fighting, meeting, helping the various inhabitants of these worlds you come across. You collect items and solve puzzles to progress and find new weapons and learn new skills along the way. You're accompanied by your Dog who helps you on your journey. As I said, this is an RPG game, and consequently, won't appeal ... ...people was absolutely delighted with Secret of Mana, which I would rank amongst one of my all time favourite games, it was my first foray into RPG and served to brew my consequential passion for this genre. As you can imagine I was eagerly anticipating this follow up, however when I eventually got my hands on it, I was appalled to see what exactly had happened to my treasured gem.
Squaresoft, now Square-Enix decided to abandon the original team ...
