...talk to you about the Sega Saturn console. It's not as 'retro' as some gaming machines like the X Spectrum, but it's pretty much forgotten about now, although there must be a few satisfied Saturn owners out there! Ok, so the Sega Saturn may have paled in comparison to it's only rival as it were, the Sony PlayStation, but the console was not a complete flop, although the shelf life wasn't overly impressive. Still, there are many reasons why you should ... ...take you on a little Sega Saturn guided tour...
Back in the mid 1990's Sega brought out it's latest revolutionary games console, the first CD based around, and everyone thought it'd be a sure fire hit. However, due to many reasons, including the failure of previous pieces of Sega hardware - notably the 32X and Mega CD add-ons to the Mega Drive machine, coupled with a supposedly awful basic development kit - compared to Sony's PlayStation at least, ...

Advantages: Cheap, good looking, CD player for £30! Disadvantages: Old, bulky, no longer supported
The Sega Saturn is a dead console: no one supports it, not even Sega. So why should you invest in one? Well, let me tell you a story...
I bought by Sega Saturn in the summer of 2000. The sun was out, everyone was care-free. Rabbits hopped along the tree-lined streets of the rural town of middlesbrough(!), and people went about their normal daily business.
I walked into the local Chips and went to their display cabinet. There it was: a Sega Saturn, ... ...is, at second-hand prices, the Sega Saturn is tremendous value for money. That £30 gets you a CD player, it gets you 2 fantastic games and it gets you a nice black piece of electrical equipment to stash under your TV. In any language, that is value for money.
The machine itself is actually very attractive, in an electrical goods sort of way. It is big, but hten electrical equipment should be. The CD opening mechanism is very smooth, and it has two ...

...great sucess of the Megadrive, Sega though they had it easy. They were wrong, and the Saturn remains to be one of the most flawed and underappreitated systems that was ever on the market. The trouble started with the impossible to program system, a lot like the PS2 now, and hardly any games came out for it. Nights was good. I think the Sonic one was ok too. But thats it. Their failure of the Saturn gave the Dreamcast an undeserved bad reputation. ...

...release of their ‘Sega Saturn’ Sega Inc have been shunned and put down every step of the way except for their exceptional quality of games which they have now published for other consoles, but these insults were not fair as after buying a Sega Saturn for only £20 second hand, I was astonished by the quality at which it was made.

Sound quality on the Sega Saturn for it’s time is exceptional, it boosts the ability to use surround stereo sound, which means your gaming fun will always be with the best of sound.
Loading times are minimal, infact seemingly faster than Playstation so there’s not really any wait for your games to start and there ...

I bought this 2nd hand when i just wanted a console to muck around with for a bit and I didn't really have too much money, it was okay when i first had it and then i got bored of it and found it hard to get games for my new console. I do like rayman though. RAYMAN ROCKS!!
I am probably going to sell the console now cos i am bored of it. I would reccomend adults who have young kids to buy it cos they dont rreally care about the console and just wanna ...

Advantages: Very good console Disadvantages: Not enough games released
Sega launched the saturn in a blaze of publicicity...indeed it was at the time state of the art in console technology. I bought one the day of the lauch, paying almost £400 for the package. What a fool I was! Within a year it seemed as though Sega had given up the battle against the playstation and almost completely ceased releasing new titles, still trying to sell us oldies like clockwork knight and sega soccer. I doing so they effectivly shot themselves ...

The Sega Saturn was an amazing console but the public helped by Sega in many respects treated it poorly, with very little support and a very few good games, it seems the Saturn was destined for the cupboard and was never to be seen at highstreet stores again. But it had some great games - some better than the Playstation - like Nights - an original game, Sega Rally, and all the Virtua games. It seems some of these games have been updated on the Dreamcast ...

I had a Sega Saturn - it had some of the best games around - classics like Virtua Cop and Virtua Fighter 2 aswell as many great looking adventure games - NiGHTS was good - as was the brilliant Sonic jam and panzer Dragoon Saga. I did swap my Saturn - it died out as not enough were sold - partly due to the incredible difficulty that developers had to program it. The games are cheap now - the console is even cheaper - and it would make a great gift. ...

Advantages: It's cheap and bloody great Disadvantages: Admittedly the likes of PS2 are somewhat more advanced, but that's not what the Saturn is about any more
When the Sega Saturn came out it was a top of the range console that was all the rage. Naturally I couldn't afford one and so I was stuck with the not as good, but still rather groovy, Mega Drive. However, for my last birthday my wonderful wonderful girlfriend decided that she would let me choose what I wanted!! We found a shop in town that sells old consoles, the Mega Drive and Saturn being such examples. The shop had run out of stock for Saturns ... ...I returned to the shop a couple of days later to learn that they had a Saturn in stock. And how much was this piece of ingenuity that once cost a small gold reserve? Just £25! I'm now looking for a cheap VCD cart for it so that I can watch my VCDs on the telly rather than on my computer. The Saturn was great when it came out. Now it's just the dog's knackers. ...

Advantages: Cheap, Better controls than playstation. Disadvantages: Out of date, smaller catalogue of games.
The Sega Saturn was a great console and although the N64 and Playstation trampled all over it I thought in many ways it was as good as the Playstation. The Playstation was more successful because it was easier to produce games for. But where games have been released on both systems, games such as Resident Evil and Fifa 98, RTWC. Advantages: Great, classic games Disadvantages: starting to look old now.
The Sega saturn for some reason was overlooked by the general public, and was overtaken by Sony and Nintendo.
The Saturn had some of the best games ever, and still does. Sega Rally is still my favourite game after all these years. It was made in 1995! Normally when you look back at old games, you laugh at the graphics and only ever think of playing them if they have outstanding gameplay to compensate. Now, after the Playstation has had so much success, it has started to invest more in quality games and is beginning to drag me off my Saturn to the ...

The Sega Saturn was a game machine that was Sega's replacement for the doomed Megadrive with CD add on.
While it was around, and it still is in a lot of homes, it did have some ground breaking games developed for it, like Panzer Dragoon and Sega Rally, and these type of graphics had not been seen before on any console.
