I find myself here at almost 2am on the Internet, so I thought I'd talk to you about the Sega Saturn console. It's not as 'retro' as some gaming machines like the X Spectrum, but it's pretty much forgotten about now, although there must be a few satisfied Saturn owners out there! Ok, so the Sega Saturn may have paled in comparison to it's only rival as it were, the Sony PlayStation, but the console was not a complete flop, although the shelf life wasn't overly impressive. Still, there are many reasons why you should get yourself a Sega Saturn even today - let me take you on a little Sega ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap, good looking, CD player for £30!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Old, bulky, no longer supported

The Sega Saturn is a dead console: no one supports it, not even Sega. So why should you invest in one? Well, let me tell you a story... I bought by Sega Saturn in the summer of 2000. The sun was out, everyone was care-free. Rabbits hopped along the tree-lined streets of the rural town of middlesbrough(!), and people went about their normal daily business. I walked into the local Chips and went to their display cabinet. There it was: a Sega Saturn, with Sega Rally and Virtua Fighter 2, for only £30. £30! That was a bargain! I took my money and paid for it. I got home, plugged it in and enjoyed ... more

Advantages Advantages One or two good games.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Impossible to program for.

After the great sucess of the Megadrive, Sega though they had it easy. They were wrong, and the Saturn remains to be one of the most flawed and underappreitated systems that was ever on the market. The trouble started with the impossible to program system, a lot like the PS2 now, and hardly any games came out for it. Nights was good. I think the Sonic one was ok too. But thats it. Their failure of the Saturn gave the Dreamcast an undeserved bad reputation. There is nothing at all wrong with the Dreamcast, and has just as good graphics as the PS2 at the moment. Buy a Dreamcast instead. ... more

Since the release of their ‘Sega Saturn’ Sega Inc have been shunned and put down every step of the way except for their exceptional quality of games which they have now published for other consoles, but these insults were not fair as after buying a Sega Saturn for only £20 second hand, I was astonished by the quality at which it was made. Although the Sega Saturn is slightly bulky (No more so than the X-Box, or should I say ‘X-Bulk’) I consider it a brilliant console, the GUI (General User Interface) when you turn it on without a CD in, is superb to begin with, as it has a wide range of ... more

I bought this 2nd hand when i just wanted a console to muck around with for a bit and I didn't really have too much money, it was okay when i first had it and then i got bored of it and found it hard to get games for my new console. I do like rayman though. RAYMAN ROCKS!! I am probably going to sell the console now cos i am bored of it. I would reccomend adults who have young kids to buy it cos they dont rreally care about the console and just wanna muck around with it. ... more

    Advantages Advantages Very good console

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not enough games released

Sega launched the saturn in a blaze of publicicity...indeed it was at the time state of the art in console technology. I bought one the day of the lauch, paying almost £400 for the package. What a fool I was! Within a year it seemed as though Sega had given up the battle against the playstation and almost completely ceased releasing new titles, still trying to sell us oldies like clockwork knight and sega soccer. I doing so they effectivly shot themselves in the foot. The death of the saturn was thier own fault. ... more

The Sega Saturn was an amazing console but the public helped by Sega in many respects treated it poorly, with very little support and a very few good games, it seems the Saturn was destined for the cupboard and was never to be seen at highstreet stores again. But it had some great games - some better than the Playstation - like Nights - an original game, Sega Rally, and all the Virtua games. It seems some of these games have been updated on the Dreamcast - sega rally 2 and Virtua fighter 3 etc..But if you still want this console then you can buy it from me with 12 great games, a steering wheel ... more

I had a Sega Saturn - it had some of the best games around - classics like Virtua Cop and Virtua Fighter 2 aswell as many great looking adventure games - NiGHTS was good - as was the brilliant Sonic jam and panzer Dragoon Saga. I did swap my Saturn - it died out as not enough were sold - partly due to the incredible difficulty that developers had to program it. The games are cheap now - the console is even cheaper - and it would make a great gift. ... more

    Advantages Advantages cheap

Disadvantages Disadvantages no more games being made

when the saturn came out very few people bought it and bought the playstation instead . Because the saturn has worse graphics than the playstation no one thought that it was any good but it has some of the best games ever created such as nights and an excellent conversion of sega rally . They stopped selling saturn's about a year ago so the only place to get them is in a second hand shop . The good thing about that is that they are cheap and cost a fraction of what a playstation 2 costs . If you want to play some of the best games ever made buy yourself a saturn ... more

Advantages Advantages It's cheap and bloody great

Disadvantages Disadvantages Admittedly the likes of PS2 are somewhat more advanced, but that's not what the Saturn is about any more

When the Sega Saturn came out it was a top of the range console that was all the rage. Naturally I couldn't afford one and so I was stuck with the not as good, but still rather groovy, Mega Drive. However, for my last birthday my wonderful wonderful girlfriend decided that she would let me choose what I wanted!! We found a shop in town that sells old consoles, the Mega Drive and Saturn being such examples. The shop had run out of stock for Saturns so we settled for a Mega Drive for just £15. I returned to the shop a couple of days later to learn that they had a Saturn in stock. And how much ... more
