PREPARE YOURSELF FOR A TRULY EPIC QUEST...

Advantages: AMAZING GRAPHICS, SOUND AND GAMEPLAY...
Disadvantages: GOT ME ALL EMOTIONAL AS THE GAME APPROACHED ITS FINALE...

...I hear you ask… SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS (PS2) Yes, I know… I'm still old school, I'm afraid. I still haven't been able to save enough pennies to acquire an all singing, all dancing PS3 - but that's a whole other story that I won't go into here and now. The PS2 still has some truly incredible games on it that I would still keep in my collection even when I do (eventually) own a PS3 - therefore ensuring I never buy a 40Gb model which has no backward ...
...back to the review. Shadow Of The Colossus (let's call it SOTC from this point on for the sake of my poor fingers) is an extremely unique game. In fact, it's one of those very rare games that is more than merely a game. It is an experience. THE STORY From the outside looking in, the premise of the game appears extremely simple and repetitive. You play a hero named Wander (who I have always thought looks slightly effeminate but that's by the by) ...

Advantages: great graphics, sound and gameply, totally original idea
Disadvantages: could be too short for some, inconclusive ending

...be honest. The world Shadow (as I'll now be calling it) is set in seems to be the same world as Ico; the bleached out colour is the same, and the castles and other buildings appear to be the same style of architecture. The characters also have more than a passing resemblance to those in Ico; the clothing of the main character is the same sort of Nomadic dress, whilst the heroine could be Yorda's sister. Looking online, someone on the GameFAQS board ...

The one game to play before you die!

Advantages: Beautiful, emotional and exhillarating, with gorgeous music
Disadvantages: Clues to enemy weaknesses are often too subtle

'Shadow of the Colossus' is going to be difficult to describe, because it's one of those titles that sits between genres, so I'm just going to go off on one about how great it is and see how it goes from there. I think I should make clear first off that I LOVE THIS GAME!...Ahem...I mean to say, I find it beautiful, emotional, thrilling and entertaining, which, let's face it, is everything a game should be. To make thing easy for everyone, I've broken ...
...the bits that bore you and head straight for the good stuff! Some catergories are also sub-divided, to safeguard against me waffling. Enjoy! DESIGN/GRAPHICS: The first thing that drew me to 'Colossus' was the visuals; everything about the world of 'Colossus' is, as you would expect, Big (I felt it deserved a capital B). The monsters themselves range from the size of an Indian Elephant to what is basically a living building. The architecture too ...

...comes an extraordinary game called Shadow Of The Colossus. You play as a boy/young man called Wanda who has traveled very far on his horse, Agro. He arrives at this strange forbidden land to see if the legends are true, that say that he can save his loved one by returning her soul that was taken from her by a curse. In the temple, a voice speaks from the heavens, says that the ancient sword you are carrying can be used to save her and that the land ...

Advantages: A great, puzzling game, with an even better ending!!
Disadvantages: You may find it hard to complete without going onto game solution websites

Ah, Shadow of the Colossus. The strangest game I have ever played on, but also one of the best. The game can make you feel emotions that you never even knew you could feel. This game makes you question every action you make in it. Why are you there? Who is that dead lass? Where the hell are you doing all this stuff? And what the hell are the colossi? Well, you might ask these questions during the game, but they are never answered!! You might think ...

Some might be put off by the lack of big names or other licenses, but if you do decided to buy this, then you will have the greatest ...

THE JIANT ROAMER.

Advantages: GREAT IDEA WITH GOOD GRAPHICS
Disadvantages: : NO GAME STORY.

This is similar to the animated tekken movie of jack the robot giant with the small girl he goes around with and protects. Although genre like me never found interest the game when it was released because of the game style and lack of hardcore fighting made the game quite boring during the recent period of release. One thing about the game is that it is a bit different from other games. The character with horns and spikes all over the body roaming ...
...this is not my type of game but I got my self-playing playing this game for one reason and that is the character and the small girl he takes about. I had a spectacular sympathy for the girl he takes about fighting so when I realized that the little girl (mono) was among the mission, I decided to guard her through out the game. THE GAME. The game to be frank does not have specific genre or platform rather it has some similarities with role-playing ...

The best and most valueble game anyone can posses.

Advantages: Awesome graphics and scenery, amazing gameplay, music and sound effects
Disadvantages: A few glitches and bugs here and there, camera and controls a little off

Shadow of the colossus is one of those rare games which has a value, unlike other games, you know that the people who made this game took a great deal of effort, to make such a masterpiece. This game is about a guy trying to ressurect his dead lover by slaying 16 colossus and that's just about it. You are equipped with a sword and bow and a steed and you are suppose to slay monsters taller than the empire state building. And there's no magic. This ...
...and find a way, to expose their weaknesses and stab their vital points (the glowing spots on them). You can't slash your way through like God of War or Monster Hunter, (but the game isn't as addictive though, only during the battles) but you have to climb up and up to the colossus head and stab it. The colossi are awesome. When they walk, the screen will shake, the ground will vibrate, the characther will stumble, the horse will neigh the ground ...

In the Shadow of the Colossus

Advantages: Highly original and challenging gameplay, vast beautiful world
Disadvantages: Controls can be occasionally annoying, some colossi can be frustrating, short

Shadow of the Colossus is the spiritual successor to the game Ico made by the same company. In it, you play a young man named Wander who travels to a distant and mystical land on a quest to restore life to his loved one. But in order to do so he must first slay the 16 giant colossi that roam the land. And as far as plot goes, that's pretty much it without revealing the ending, although you do learn some things about the land itself by traveling through ...
...mysterious voice named Dormin, Wander must find and defeat these great beasts with only a sword, bow and arrows and your faithful horse Agro. Anyway, you start off in the middle of the map at the Shrine of Worship and you must hold your sword high in the light which will shine a beam in the direction of the next colossus. And thank goodness for Agro, for without him this game would be very tedious. The game world is massive and would probably take ...

Shadow of Colussus is full of emotion with an immersive story.

Advantages: A really unique type of game, and it is done really well.
Disadvantages: Sometimes the game struggles to fit everything onto the screen.

Shadow of the Colossus takes you to a distant place in which creatures the size of mountains roam free. They hold the key to a power capable of bringing the dead back to life. I want to clear something up first before I start: this game is a PS2 EPIC. It is a reason to keep your PS2 to see what it can really do before you possibly get rid. Fans of say, Zelda, will love this game. Made by the creators of Ico which some may remember from a while back, ...
...GAMEPLAY: The gameplay in Shadow of the Colossus is great in my opinion. Basically the game is set out into 16 boss battles. They ARE the levels. Some may say that it has a certain feel of Assassin's Creed syndrome of having to wonder around to find the target. For me, this is all part of the fun. The land is vast. The horse makes things faster and your character's sword lights the way to the Colossus. Despite this, the amount of platforming you ...

Shadow Of The Colossus

Advantages: Easy to complete if you cheat
Disadvantages: To hard to complete if you dont

Shadow Of The Colossus What's it all about ? Well the basic story, although it is a very thin story, is that the hero has brought a young girl to a faraway temple in the hope of restoring her health. The only way to do this is by tracking down and destroying the 16 giant colossi that roam the land. What does it look and sound like ? I must say that although the sound is a little plain the graphics are quite simply astounding. The amount of detail ...
...sections and styles is utterly amazing. There are desert areas, giant lakes, ruins, mountains, cliffs, and vast sweeping plains. So how does it play ? When it plays well it is great, but when it plays badly it is a complete bore. You basically have to ride your horse in the direction indicated by your sword until you trigger a cut scene, which indicates that you have found the first Colossus. The problem with this is that your sword can only point ...

Shadow of the Colossus

Advantages: Involving gameplay, beautiful graphics, very innovative
Disadvantages: Occasionally confusing

Shadow of the Colossus is another game from the team behind the under appreciated 'Ico' for the PS2. As with the previous title, it is visibly distinct and shares a similar explorative construct. After a cutscene that displays the graphical beauty of the land, we are told that a girl has been sacrificed and her soul has been lost. The boy who has brought her to a sacred temple wants to revive her and the mystical land in which he finds himself is ...

Utterly thrilling game

Advantages: Utterly unique, excellent gameplay, stunning graphics
Disadvantages: Can get repetitive.

...him can catch up. Shadow of the Colossus is an utterly unique, utterly compelling game with a very simple principle. Easy to pick up, it can take hours to master. By the makers of Ico, another classic PS2 game, Shadow of the Colossus takes place in the same world. Graphically this game is stunning. The detail on the landscape, and the washed out but realistic earth tones is incredible. The movements of the horse and his master, and the colossi ...
...character. Agro, the horse, definitely has his own personality expressed in movement and reaction and acts as a companion in the desolate landscape, as well as transport. The sound fits the game and the voice acting (in the language made up for Ico) expresses emotions accurately. The game is subtitled throughout and this creates a slightly foreign feeling which works for the game. The other overwhelming feeling in the game is solitude. Wanderer and ...

SOTC: Unique, beautiful, but gaming marmite

Advantages: amazing graphics, sense of freedom, unique
Disadvantages: repetative gaming, little plot, will not appeal to all gamers

When this game was released I had such high expectations for it, its been a long time since I have got excited about a new and unique game. I was getting bored with the countless updates and sequels available and this was billed as a truely unique title. So soon after its release I packed myself off to GAME to spend my (hard earned) birthday money......... I had previously heard a lot of good things about this game. How it involved a new style of ...
...in-terms of its approach. I had also been told it was visually stunning and had such a moving a story line it would tug at anybody's heart strings. That all sounds great, certainly beats another football game with updated players and kits. However I am now going to attack each one of these claims to see if the game is still a towering colossus at the end....... Many of you may find my views a bit controversial here, but at least it makes for an interesting ...

...the place. Somehow, however, Shadow of the Colossus still manages to impress. The basic premise of the game is that you are just a man with a sword and a horse, intent on bringing his true love back from the dead. The only way to do this, you learn in the opening cut-sequence, is to dispatch the 16 Colossi that roam the surrounding areas. Only then will you be able to bring the girl back to life. And so you set off with your hilariously named horse, ...

Although it might not be the lengthiest of games, the most action-packed or the most varied, Shadow of the Colossus is wholely unique in it's sweeping visuals, its uncomplicated storyline and its sheer creativity. Disadvantages: None

...am ever likely to play, Shadow of the colossus has the best graphics, gameplay and best settings out now for the PS2. From the creators of ICO comes a game like no other.
