Advantages: Great pictures and rhyming text Disadvantages: none
Another book by one of my favourite "at the moment" authors.
I actually bought this because I was doing some work on homes and friendships, and it seemed to encapsulate the two, and then soon after that my topic in the classroom was seasides, so this has been well read.
Better than that, i knew without a doubt that it would appeal to Little Miss, as there is lots of glitter and it's a very touchy feely book...certain to grab children's attention.
... ...along the sand, tapping on shells of creatures with homes. They won't let him in, and it's at this stage children realise the importance of the crab finding a safe home, because there are children all over the beach, and not only that, but a gull comes swooping down to get him. Crab hides in an empty shell "his wonderful home for one".
He is joined by an anemone who wants to share and although crab is at first reluctant to share his home, he lets ...

Advantages: Teaches children to share Disadvantages: This version is a limited edition
...it is a version of Sharing a Shell by Julia Donaldson. This is a slightly different version of the book but as it's a limited edition I didn't think it was worth suggesting a new category.
***The Author***
Julia Donaldson is famous of course for writing the award winning book, The Gruffalo as well as many other lovely rhyming books for children. Her popularity amongst children is spreading very quickly and every book is a delight to read.

"Three friends, sharing a shell,
Happy as friends can be,
Rocketing all round the rock pool
In their wonderful home for three."
***The Illustrations***
Drawn by Lydia Monks, these pictures to go with the story are excellent. The colours are fantastic and the expressions on the small creatures' faces are lovely. In the rock pool, the movement of the water can be shown by the seaweed, which seems to flow all over the pool and ...

...concentrates on the importance of sharing and friendship, which could be given greater discussion with older children. Each page is adorned with Lydia Monks cheerful illustrations, which are so bright and colourful. Each page is as enjoyable as the last and the glitter enhances the illustrations perfectly. Caitlin likes to feel the textures made by the glitter and we find different things to look at each time we read it through. It's one of those ... ...words, if you know what I mean!
It's definately a book to keep, it's so nicely presented. I always try and encourage Caitlin not to tear or throw books about anyway.
~About the Author~
Julia Donaldson started her career as a singer/songwriter, and this is why she prefers to write in verse mostly. She is perhaps best known for her "Gruffalo" books and you have probably heard of "Room on the Broom", although she has written many other children's ...

...delightful experience. Sharing a Shell is a wonderful childrens book written by Julia Donaldson, and illustrated by Lydia Monks. It tells the story of a homeless crab who is looking for a shell. After several unsuccessful attempts at trying to share a shell with various sea creatures, Crab is severely exposed and nearly eaten by a seagull! This has to be one of my daughter's favourite books. She's had it since she was about 4 months old, and back then she just liked to sit on my knee and look at the pictures, but now at 18 months she loves to hear the story over and over again, and even knows some of the lines and says them along with me.
The rhyming and bouncy text is ideal for babies and toddlers and it is one of the stories that I don't mind reading 10 times a day! The pictures ... ...young baby's attention, even if they are not interested in the story. My daughter loves to point out the crab and the 'blob' and the shells as I am reading to her, and I often find her sat on the floor pretending to read the story to herself and gazing at the beautiful illustrations.
I hope that when she gets older she will learn the meaning behind the story too.
I cannot praise this book enough. ...
