°°°The Game°°°
Shenmue Chapter One is called FREE (Full Reactive Eyes Entertainment), it's like a p.i.-film on your dreamcast. You play the character through days, you have a realistic change from day to night and there's always a little watch in the left corner at the bottom of your screen so you can always see how much time it is. A day takes ca. one hour normal time. First you can act in Yamanose, Sakuragaoka and Dobuita JUST ... ...a great graphics-engine like in Shenmue Chapter One. Magic Time and Weather Control make the game even more realistic than The Sims. You really feel stuck in a Japanese township. What you want to know about the modern Japan you can't look up in a book. Look up in this game and learn about the culture and the way of life.
The sound is great, too. After a hard day at school or work you can relax and hear the relaxing sounds of this game. Great!!!

Advantages: Beautiful, adictive story, gameplay etc Disadvantages: Waiting around
Shenmue is an RPG or role playing game, and for those of you who haven't already encountered the genre I’ll tell you what this involves. In an RPG you are the hero, through some sort of coincidence most probably very spurious you have a task, either to enact revenge, save a woman in distress or stop an evil dictator. At the beginning you will have very few resources, all the research, finding items, and puzzle solving is left up to you. The ... ...is the backdrop against which Shenmue is set.
Story
In the opening cut scene we meet our Japanese hero Ryo Hazuki. He is hearing a ruckus and runs out to find his mate beaten on the ground clutching his chest. He whispers that he’s OK but that Ryo’s father is still in danger. Ryo runs to the dojo (hut for fighting in don’t you know) and finds his father Iwao fighting with an evil martial arts genius and getting his ass kicked ...

Advantages: Lots of interactiveness with everything, ever. Disadvantages: Too much talking, too litte fighting.
...big and risky statement.
Shenmue is shall we say a steady game for a number of reasons, steady because that’s how the game’s pace goes, there’s a little action here and a little puzzle solving there and never at any point do you ever feel overwhelmed with things to do.
A problem that surfaces within the first half hour of playing is how linear the game is, it’s a simple go here talk to him then go there and talk to her affair, ... ...people especially when the game promises so much. From the opening cutscene you see a dojo and some martial arts which leads you to believe you’ll be partaking in some great fighting scenerios but alas fighting is too little and too far inbetween but don’t worry there’s always someone to chat to about it.
The nice feature in the game is the time, everything is played out according to the time, shops opening at ten, bars opening ...

...think I first knew of Shenmue in about 2004, that was when I got a dreamcast. I had bought the old console from a local pawnshop, really cheap, with a few games like Quake III Arena and Virtua Fighter, decent games in their own right(especially Q3A) however I felt I needed something deeper. Iv'e alwasy been a fan of the action adventure genre, good storylines but with good gameplay, and that's what I wanted. So after looking around on internet review ... ...that for any adventure game, Shenmue has my favorite graphics of all. Everything is tweaked to perfection, there are no bad graphics here what-so-ever. The way the cutscenes and realtime gameplay are totally conjoined, the way they flow seamlessly into eachother is just one of the many ways Suzuki's team has creating one of the most engrossing gaming experiences ever. The musical score is a beautiful classic of video game music, epic beyond all known ...

...with a 4th Disc, the Shenmue Passport. The basis of the game is that you play Ryo Hazuki, son of a martial arts master, who one day comes home to find his dad being murdered by a group of gangsters who steal a mirror from your fathers dojo. ...they felt would pay off. Shenmue is now widely regarded as one of the Dreamcast’s best titles and a sequel was released for the console and for the Microsoft Xbox. Now its eight years later but is the game still worth a look or has it lost its charm? Shenmue starts off in November 1986, when Ryo runs home to find some strange men at his house. For 1999, Shenmue actually looks brilliant: The characters are well detailed and the environments are constructed very well, as it is essentially the area it’s portraying: Yokosuka, Japan. Character design is, in itself, not an important part of the game as you can’t control it but the clothes that the younger and older people wear do show the cultural differences going on in the late 80s. The music for Shenmue is authentic for the ...

I played this game without having any opinion or prejudgement on the ability of the Dreamcast. What I found was a game that was simply out of this world! In all my years of computer gaming I have never found a game as unique and original as this. The game is based around a young Chinese man called Ryo who has his father killed by a mysterious gang leader at the start of the game. This boy is only seventeen and it is up to him to try and find the ... ...his fathers slaying. To this, you must work your way from day to day, picking up new information and living a life packed full of things such as a curfew to be in by, interaction with other people and later even a job! The game comes with four discs, which is certainly the largest amount I have seen any game come with. The game is set sixteen years in the past, in 1986, but this has no effect on the quality of the game at all, and if anything actually ...

Shenmue has been placed in the rather spectacular bracket of best game ever by many people. It has apparently taken many years and over $70 million to make and put it on the now dying Dreamcast. The first thing I noticed in my local games store was the genre it came under, not beat em up, nor RPG. It was labelled F.R.E.E. (not free, this stands for Fully Reactive Eyes Entertainment) A quick conversation later and I found that Shenmue was supposed ... ...clue.
The fact that Shenmue has 2 distinct styles of gameplay and blends them together so well is a first for a game. The free environment sections play well and there is so much to see and do its unreal. You can literally interact with anything in the Shenmue world and this alone makes it an experience you have to try. There’s no better feeling than going down the local arcade and playing a complete version of Hang On or Space Harrier.

I'd like to start by telling you Shenmue has an engine ... ...through the babble, it means Shenmue is destined to be labeled an "adventure" game, basically because it works like this - you control a central chracter, Ryo, who needs to gain clues and information on his father's murderer, a mega-evil man called Lan Di who happens to have the coolest costume for a videogame character yet and the circumstances which led Poppa to his untimely demise. The difference with so many other Adventure/RPGs is that there ...
