Shenmue is an RPG or role playing game, and for those of you who haven't already encountered the genre I’ll tell you what this involves. In an RPG you are the hero, through some sort of coincidence most probably very spurious you have a task, either to enact revenge, save a woman in distress or stop an evil dictator. At the beginning you will have very few resources, all the research, finding items, and puzzle solving is left up to you. Advantages Lots of interactiveness with everything, ever.
Disadvantages Too much talking, too litte fighting.

"RPG’s have changed" well that was the slogan the game boasted, which in a world where RPG’s are enough sell consoles it’s a big and risky statement. Shenmue is shall we say a steady game for a number of reasons, steady because that’s how the game’s pace goes, there’s a little action here and a little puzzle solving there and never at any point do you ever feel overwhelmed with things to do. I think I first knew of Shenmue in about 2004, that was when I got a dreamcast. I had bought the old console from a local pawnshop, really cheap, with a few games like Quake III Arena and Virtua Fighter, decent games in their own right(especially Q3A) however I felt I needed something deeper. Iv'e alwasy been a fan of the action adventure genre, good storylines but with good gameplay, and that's what I wanted. So after looking around on internet review sites I came across Shenmue. After getting my hands on a Dreamcast, I decided to grab a copy of Shenmue, an old DC action-RPG game, which I got off the second hand shelf at GAME. Now, when you read on about this game, you'll see how much of a bargain I got for £9.99! The game is spread over 3 GD-ROM's, and comes with a 4th Disc, the Shenmue Passport. I played this game without having any opinion or prejudgement on the ability of the Dreamcast. What I found was a game that was simply out of this world! In all my years of computer gaming I have never found a game as unique and original as this. The game is based around a young Chinese man called Ryo who has his father killed by a mysterious gang leader at the start of the game. This boy is only seventeen and it is up to him to try and find the killer and bring him to justice by gaining revenge for his fathers slaying. Advantages Superb Graphics, storyline and interactivity

At last the much hyped and long awaited Shenmue has its European release and was it worth the wait, read on. Coming in a cardboard box with to normal Dreamcast boxes inside that slip in and out the right hand side, the game is on three disks with the fourth being the passport disk for Internet options. I have to say that when I first put the game in the Dreamcast and loaded it up I was not impressed by the menus or the way they looked.
